The given error code and message can be used by Dell Technical Support to help diagnose the problem. Do you want to continue testing?

A boot disk can solve this.

If you don't mind losing the data and starting from scratch then FUCK DELL!! and fix it yourself.
You'd think this. I reloaded everything and Windows takes a whopping 22 minutes to load up.

It took 22 mins to install for it takes that long EVERYTIME it boots?
Takes that long to boot every single time. I've resorted to buying another 40 gig hard drive because my warranty crapped out. Unless there is a way to avoid this, then I'm humped and need to eat the money.

How old is the laptop? My Dell's hard drive died not long after I got it. It was probably bad from the get-go. I called Dell, they walked me through some tests and had someone here the same afternoon to replace the hard drive. I was really pretty pleased with the service, despite the fact that I had a bit of a problem understanding the broken English of the tech I spoke to on the phone. :S
Yeah, English wasn't a strong point with the people I talked too. I got my laptop hrm.. let's see.. about a year or so ago, but the warranty ran out. Dell has been notorious for crappy hard drives as well as crappy design models for their laptops, expecially their Inspirons (which I have), but too bad I didn't learn that until after I bought it!

Ish. I've got to agree. The hard drive shouldn't have gone belly-up in a year. Thankfully, my problem occurred within the warranty period. I can certainly understand being pretty damned pissed if the thing had blown just as the warranty ended. :(
I'm such a sucker. While I was buying a hard drive I was like, "HEY! I GOT TOO MUCH MONEY!" and doubled my RAM. 512 just doesn't cut it for me anymore :P

512 really doesn't cut it anymore. You need a gig, minimum, if you're going to play the high-action, graphics games, I'd think.
100% true. The boxes say, "recomended 512" and I'm all like "Yeah, recomend me that if you want it to barely run". The lag spikes I was getting from WoW was horrible with 512 RAM. Nothing like walking into Orgrimmar and freezing solid for 30 seconds.

Good friend of mine is experiencing the same problems with that company when the hard drive crashed on her laptop. Makes me glad I begged my father to purchase a Compaq instead.

Dell is actually great. Every company has their bullshit problems but the Dell machines are very modular.. easy to work on and MOST of the time very dependable. Their support sucks.. ( fucking indian dot head mutha fukers)

The warranty ran out in less than a year? I'm assuming you sent in the card that limits your implied warranty to whatever the hell they want it to be?

Idiot! Gawd!
Yep, plus when I was getting my A+ certification I decided to take my laptop apart just for practice and to see how everything looks and runs. I'm pretty sure that that kills the warranty right there. And no, me taking apart didn't damage my hard drive because that was a while back :P

However I have to question your agenda here, Women's sufferage is a celebrated freedom in the states, I for one don't want to take that away.
WoW runs just fine for me with 512MB of RAM. You could try updating video drivers, playing with video settings or think about a new video card.
I have an ATI Radeon 7500 Mobile.. It's a 64 MB card with the most updated drivers so I'm kind of confused why it would screw me up. Maybe it was just my hard drive on its way out.

You should be beaten with a rusty spoon for actually recommending someone get an emachine. Secondly, I told you not to get a dell Arkans...did you listen to me? NO. Now you have to call India for Tech support and that'll be the end of you. For those that don't know, go to this website and select tech support. http://www.illwillpress.com/vault.html

I'm on hard drive #3 with my Dell latitude d600. Tech support has been quick in sending out new/refurb hard drives. I'm hoping its just faulty hard drives (hitachi) instead of something larger, the latest HD was something different but I cant remember the name now that its installed already.
The only issue I'm having currently is that there seems to be a power saving setting when you use the battery where the processor voltage is cut in half thereby reducing power consumption as well as overall CPU clock/processing speed. WTF??? If I want to save power I'll adjust my screen settings, modify my WiFi power settings and the like. Dont cut down on my processing speed.
I really enjoyed the Inspiron model Dell laptop I had last year which only needed the power cord replaced when it melted down and almost caught the carpet on fire. I'm not convinced that this model of laptop isnt a piece of crap though. We'll see.

My first laptop was a Compaq. Within the first three months I had to have the harddrive replaced a grand total of three times. I think every company runs into these problems. I like Dell though, their customer service has been excellent in my experience.

I seriously dislike Compaq. Compaq ghosts the drives and they do not provide actually software disks. It's really irritating when you format as soona s you purchase your comp, do the intitial format, flash the bios, so on and so forth.
Anyway, I like buying my Alienware comps, only way to go, and do it through Tigerdirect.

Compaq = too much proprietary bullshit
HP = Decent product
Sony = Nice Product, expensive price
Dell = What almost every corporation I know is buying. Also has some of the best deals around:
ex.:
Dell Dimension 3000
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
512 DDR SDRAM
80gb 7200RPM HD
48x CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo drive
Integrated 10/100 Network Card
$479
The trick is to go through their small business division instead of "Dell Home". That way you get better prices without the bullshit you don't want (extra software loaded, printers, etc.)
The problem with the Inspiron 5100 models is the fact that they have this huge tendancy to overheat and shut down completely unless you blast them with compressed air.
Funny though, because I had the same power cord issues. I heard.. SNAP! CRACK! POP! of sparks flying and notice my cord was melting. Took a glue gun, stripped the wire, redid everything and made a make-shift repair until my cord arrived.
Anyway, I did the one day shipping and placed the order Saturday. With any luck I'll have my laptop up, running, and with everything installed by Wednesday at the latest. It's all up to Dell at this point, though.

PS: Oh, I'll catch up. I'm going through WoW withdrawals so I'll stay up like 24 hours a day to play to catch up!

Also, if you are in school, or have a friend in school, get a school discount of 15% off their already low prices.

Ya Dell is nice except for the 3rd world country Tech support people but pretty much all companies are like that. Dell > Compaq for sure though... Compaq and HP are the same family, unfortunately Compaq is treated as the red headed step child of that family.
