View Full Version : Looking to treat myself
Was thinking of getting this shirt. Looks fucking nice, its pricey, and I am looking to blow a ridiculous sum of cash "just because I havn't in a while" on clothing. Opinions?

I wouldn't buy that for 1/4th the price...the white and blue on the bottom take away from it as well.
www.bananarepublic.com, can't go wrong.
There are also some pretty nice casual dressy shirts at www.gap.com for < $40.
You have to be careful here because different brands have different sizes, but www.bluefly.com has a decent number of designer label shirts...just might not be available in your size.
www.expressfashion.com
I go here a lot, you're (apparently) a similar build to me, the shirts fit me very well from Express.
www.abercrombie.com
Their polos suck, but there are several nice long sleeve shirts here.
Thanks for the heads up. BananaRepublic.com is like my second home. It's where I got a few outfits of mine for spring. I'm going to check out the others though and thanks for the info.

Jesus, why havn't I been informed of this bluefly earlier and their awesome prices?!?!?

I know, right?
I got my brown Polo oxfords for like $80 from there last winter. Also got a redunkulous pair of Armani shades for like 15% off their already low, low price.
The great part about that website is occasionally they have sales on top of their regular prices. Keep an eye out, because it can be up to like 20% off what their regular price is.
Do they give discounts based on length of account and how many purchases you make? I have an account to makeupalley.com (for my colognes, you fucks) and they give damn nice discounts based on longevity.

I dunno. I got a 15% discount for my second purchase after I made my first purchase, so if you're going to buy something expensive, wait till after our first order.
Good deal, thanks for the site again, it's gonna save me a ton.
- Arkans
Man.... only women talk about outfits for spring, dont make me think you have turned to the dark side....
There is absolutely nothing wrong for a straight guy to want to be on top of his game as far as fashion is concerned. To me it shows a great deal of self-respect that one could have if he cares about his personal appearance.

You're just sad that my fashion sense can kick the shit out of your fashion sense :P

hey, we all wear green brother (sorry had to toss that in)

You're skinny enough to pull that shirt of dude. No way that thing would fit my shoulders even in the largest of sizes.
Also the part where Edaarin said I got 15% on my second purchase after my first purchase had me laughing pretty hard. When else do you make a second purchase but after your first?
Dave is just mad he has to wear that beret. Nothing says surrender like a stupid black cover.
I think I'm gonna have to sleep on it as far as the shirt is concerned. It's fucking nice and I havn't bought something that expensive in a damn long time. Hrmm.. It's either that or head on down to Banana Republic and buy another whole outfit for a little less (this inclues shoes). Goddamn the choices.
- Arkans
PS: Yeah, berets are wicked fucking stupid

Don't buy it dude it looks beefy. But I'm just a redneck and kick cargo shorts and flip flops every day so wtf do I know.
Let us not talk about the beret anymore, having to look french every day is starting to give me a complex.

300 dollars for a shirt?
Especially one that looks that beef wellington?
I'd go with normal shirt or something 1/6th that price.
This shirt does NOT look beef wellington at all.

eh, the shirt isn't my style. And I've really never understood blowing that kind of money on shirts, pants, etc.... Cost that company probably $10 bucks at most to make anyway lol

You will have a first impression that is a million times better wearing an Armani shirt over a regular shirt any day.

THEY ARE FLIP FLOPS.
You can buy something that achieves the same purpose for like 8 dollars!
wtf?????
But then they wouldn't be killer Gucci flip flops.

All depends on who you're looking for.
If you want a girl that gets wet when she sees a 350 dollar shirt, go for it.
I'll take the girl that doesn't care what brand name it is, so long as it looks good.
Chances are the girl that likes the 350 dollar shirt has much more self respect and takes better care of herself. Not always the case, but I'd bet that it is usually the case.

What do you mean by takes better care of herself?
Wastes her parents money on needlessly expensive clothes?
Not seeing the correlation between thinking 350 dollars for a shirt is worth it and self-respect, either.
Has more self-respect.
Is more concious about her appearance and does her best to look her best.
Is more socially aware.
The list goes on. Also, why would she waste her parents money? I'm pretty sure that girls out there can afford their own clothes, even if it may just be one expensive article of clothing. Believe me, if I choose to buy that shirt it will be all my own money.
- Arkans
PS: Yes, there are people out there that can actually afford more expensive clothes.
Hulkein

Wearing an Armani shirt because it says Armani on it doesn't make you more socially aware, it doesn't make you more conscious of your appearence, and it doesn't give you self-respect.
If that was the case every slut at the bar could stumble out of the bathroom walking funny after getting the business in the stall, but so long as they're wearing some expensive clothes, they have instant self-respect.
And unless you're (general) paying for your rent, school, car, insurance, etc, spending 350 dollars on a shirt is indirectly wasting your parents money.
Not many 21-year-olds who pay for all their own bills, all their schooling, all their food, furniture, TVs, etc, etc, etc would actually spend 350 dollars on a shirt made by Armani because it says it's cool in a magazine.
I disagree, Hulkein. When it comes to social situations, people with a better fashion sense generally are more socially capable. I mean, seriously, how many inept gothmos do you see wearing name brand clotthes or take the example to the reclussive computer geek. It just doesn't really happen.
Regardless, it's a generalization and if you're telling me that girls that go after guys with a better sense of fashion, self-care, and all that jazz don't have higher standard in general then I dunno man.
Also, assuming that just because somebody my age can buy a shirt like that does not mean that I do not pay my own expenses (every last one of them) and I believe that it goes for others as well. Let's stay away from the really retarded stereotypes.

I agree with your basic principle, that someone walking around looking like total trash isn't exactly self-respecting, etc.
I just know it doesn't take 350 dollars per shirt to care about your appearence and to look good.
<< Let's stay away from the really retarded stereotypes. >>
That made me laugh. You've thrown out like five stereotypes a post.

Jorddyn lol... seriously, authenticity cards. Ridiculous but I think the reason they come with cards is the duplication and re-selling of most of the over-priced brand name "fake" gear that's sold on the street. I couldn't justify paying $350.00 for flip flops.
My stereotypes came with the warning that what I was speaking was in general. I know there are expections to every rule, your posts failed to convey that.
I agree with you 100% in the above post, Hulkein. There is no way in hell that all my shirts cost $300+, I *WISH* I had that kind of money, but I don't. Though having one or two pieces of clothing like that for really killer occasions really does help. Banana Republic has nothing on price that Armani, Gucci, or Prada might have, but believe me, I still have a damn killer wardrobe.

I thought I went out of my way to make sure I wasn't talking about everyone. Either way, I think we understand where we're both coming from now.

While I agree with the principle, it isn't always the case. As long as folk are comfertable, doesn't mean they don't have any self-respect even if they do look scruffy. I find its the scruffy, frumpy folk who scrub up best.

What got me was the sleeper bag. I bet the bag costs more to make than the flip-flops.
Those flip-flops are not even good looking. I've bought nicer pairs at Wal-Mart.

Those are pretty fucking hideous.
Also, I went to the new Rugby store (by Ralph Lauren) today. They opened up the third one in the country about 6 minutes from where I live. Unfortunately, it was all shit for Greek white boys. Seriously, who else would wear orange pants with skull-and-crossbones on them?

Which also means most of the time that dollar signs are going to light up in her eyes and she's going to expect you to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on her before she even thinks about touching your dick.
Plus if someone's self-respect is based on the pricetag of their clothing, then truth be told they probably didn't have much self-respect to begin with. That's not directed at you, but towards these "self-respecting" women you're referring to. I know lots of self-respecting hot chicks that would say WTF YOU SPENT $300 ON THAT?!?!!?! NO ASS 4 U!!!!!1 Or at least the first sentence anyway.
Barring an occasional exception, I think someone wearing the things they like to wear regardless of the pricetag has more self-respect than people who wear what they think other people will like.
If you want to buy the shirt because you like it and think it's worth the price, I say go for it.
If you just want to buy it because you think it's going to get you laid, you might as well spend that $300 on a hooker. At least you know for sure you're going to get your money's worth then and won't have to spend even more money buttering her up for sausage insertion.
You can wear equally if not better looking clothes for a fraction of the price. If a chick likes the way you look in a shirt, that's cool. If she doesn't until you tell her how much you spent on it, then chances are she's shallow and lacks self-respect and you're going to go broke and still have blueballs the next day.
Plus you can always just lie about the price.
Plus it's quite possible that that shirt might attract fat nerd women, because that shirt says EAT in l33tspeak.

I know I'm not exactly Arkans when it comes to fashion sense and what not, but since when do shirts have zippers? Isn't that a jacket?
These clothes/fragrance topics that you guys talk about always crack me up!
Anyway, I gotta go get my manicure.
Funny. I always thought self respect had more to do with respecting yourself regardless of what people think of you. A woman who respects herself wouldn't define herself by the type of clothes she wears, she would be comfortable with the way she looks in a pair of sweat pants.
Moreso, any woman who is simply judging the quality of a man based upon how much money he wastes on clothes probably doesn't have alot of luck "finding a good guy" or w\e she tells herself after being fucked by two best friends with Armani T-shirts
Take that for what you will, I know I get my fair share of the fairer sex and I don't give two fucks about exspensive clothes.
