I currently just have 4x void flaring gloves. I'm wondering what might be the best option to upgrade at DR. Other than getting a GEF cert (which I'd have to save up for), here are the options I see...

6x steam flaring gloves
5x Elemental gloves (regular fire/ice/earth/lightning flares with the extra bolt of elemental energy x times per day)
5x realm flaring
4x Animalistic Spirit flares

Thoughts on which I should go with? Anyone used any that can provide feedback on how you like it?

What about mechanical krush script flares? They are now listed on the uncommon flare item in HESS for 30k. I understand they are supposed to always flare at the location you hit (that needs to be confirmed as ive never tried them...) ... krush flares on the head kill on only a rank 5 which is beter than any other flare I know of. If your UAC attack pattern is to jab to the head I think it would net some quick kills, which means roundtime saved.

If it all works like I think, seems better than any of those options to me. Its probably not as good as knockout flares, but if you could afford knockout flares I think you would have gotten them already as they seem the best choice for uac

Animalistic Set is arguably one of the best sets for an evade heavy unarmed combat character. The reactive flares, the grapple which disables, and even the passive DS boost are all great. I would suggest that set for a monk all day long - snag robes & boots, unlock revenge flares and that's all you need to do at that point (aside from finding someone to enchant them and do at least a T1 ensorcell. For a plate wearing warrior, that might not be the top choice for example.

If you're a light armor / dodge master profession then my suggestion is not to bother with both pieces (gloves/boots) being animalistic. You only benefit from two pieces of gear at once, so armor + gloves or boots, then do something else for the other piece. Opinions vary, but there's way more gloves out there to experiment with than there are boots, so I went for animalistic boots + animalistic armor. Unlocked Revenge Flares, and enchanted / ensorcelled the set. That is incredibly strong on my monk. The grapple flare is not super desirable overall as a boot flare, but down the road you can just change that flare to disintegrate. Where it really shines is the reactive flares that disable things when you're hit you and blocks spells from landing.

As for the mechanical CAT B flare, I am told that these aren't the kind that hit the area you aim for, which would make them weaker than most elemental flares. If they are the kind that hit where you aim, and occupy the script slot, then it would be a poor man's KO flare to get crush for ambushing heads. KO flares are, however, an excellent gloves option IMO.

Seconded and thirded. My only other input is the great value on 5x realm flaring gear. I think it's 2.5k bs.

Seconded, Animalistic is great, especially if you can pair it with matching armor. Just avoid the Savage Power upgrade.

i have animalistic UAC but have heard some people argue parasitic is better for UAC. Don't entirely understand why.

Having used both parasitic and animalistic, I favor the animalistic. Especially on an evade heavy build. Flares go off often, and the grapple flare on the script helps control your opponent with so many quick attacks. What you put on Cat B depends where you want to spend most of your time hunting, but you can't really go wrong with dispel.

what about in the bowels?

Literally the reason I took a hiatus from hunting there...
