Wanna sum up my last 15 months experience and leave a sad boohoo story as to the reason why I am quitting.


1.) GM's Lootcap is retarded.
2.) GM's sending white text script checks, retarded.
3.) GM's giving scripting violations to bards singing to 40 gems while taking a shit, retarded.
4.) GM's designing a gem purification system that takes 4 hours to sing to 480 gems, retarded.
5.) GM's giving special treatment to a core group of players, and then base all in game decisions off said group of retards, retarded.
6.) GM's changing the game to give preferential treatment to casual players vs hardcore players, retarded.

What do 1-6 have in common? They are all retarded.

The GM's have pushed out most of the whales, many of the hardcore players, and nearly all the silver farmers and with that went many of my in-game friends. GM's have ruined the entire economy of the game (intentionally) in the last 2 years. We have had some great quality of life changes no doubt, the rest retarded. The game is ruined and without some major staff changes the game is dead and never in my life would I think this would be uttered by me but who would have guessed Astrenoir and my brother were right 15 months ago when they said the decisions at that time, and moving forward, would kill the game? I could not imagine a company that would intentionally try to sabotage their own business but here we are with 15 years of proof heheh.

In good faith I can no longer spend thousands and thousands of dollars on a game in which we, the customers, continue to get treated like garbage. I am out. No really, no Rendena this time, I out. It is very unlikely things are going to change as Simu will just blame "everyone leaving the game on the endemic Coronavirus" and not take responsibility for games death based on their SHITTY socialist decisions they have made over the last 15 months.

Yeah the current state of the game is crazy. I would say the current crop of GMs have been both the best for the game and the worst for the game at the same time.

They are for sure churning out some great content lately and at record pace. At the same time they are also doing a bunch of dumb shit that seems to be turning a lot of players away (except when DR rolls around and there are suddenly over 1k characters logged on at once...gee I wonder why.)

And the higher ups don't seem to care because they are probably making record profit off the game. But that growth can't possibly last forever, I would be surprised if the growth continues for even another year or two. The game has to be incredibly close to peak profit potential, and what is gonna happen when the profits start to go down? Rather than fixing the issues for why people are leaving or trying to push to get more new players, they are probably going to double down trying to cater to the top .01%.

No exp from purifying gems. There is really little point in even bothering with purifying gems. Someone who hasnt tried it might think ('but you can make easy money!"), but the time required is less than the opportunity cost of forgoing hunting (like if a bag of gems takes 4 hours, and you make 250k off the bag of gems, you could have made more silvers not to mention a bunch of exp by hunting over that time period and LPKs, bounty points, etc. that you can sell).

I am not ashamed to admit I was AFK scripting digging at EG and caught a ban. I thought it was a joke, because I didn't think anyone was actually at the computer for digging. The GM was not amused. Simu got my $100 for EG and I took the $500 i was going to spend on gemstone in DR and donated it to No One Left Behind (Matt is a good dude). Sorry, Goat, that money was for you.

Real question: who actually pays attention to digging? Or forging? Or alchemy? Or guild reps? Or even hunting? Seriously insulting game design across the board, you all know it. I personally have way better things to do than watch the same text over and over and over again. They should create a game that doesn't beg to be automated rather than ban folks who pay their bills.

Frankly, the majority of you flirt with some level of being AFK. Please stop pretending that ban came from the one time you left the keyboard to poop. To me, it is more embarrassing to admit you actually sit at your computer watching this disaster of a game, than just to say: "Of course I was watching a movie". The best parts are the community, the RP, storylines, decades of history, customization, etc. The actual game design is fucking terrible. They should just have a "don't ask, don't tell" policy on scripting and only drop a script check on folks who are overdoing it and ruining the fun for others - which is what I thought they were doing until the recent bans.

I think it's actually funny how GMs are going after their core player base with this ban campaign. As if anybody doesn't script these days. I just can't figure out how it's possible to be that stupid to not realize the consequences.

Getting an official warning is no big deal. Those are the consequences. Do it too many times you get a ban. It is how and why they are doing is the problem.

What is more disruptive a lootcap that prevents anyone from abusing the silver mechanics and still banning players singing to gems? Banning people from afk scripting events? It isn’t like each Duskruin is something new. How many years have we been doing it? Participating in events that you are paying for should have no limits. Who cares if someone farms 3k bloodscrip for some whale? Like really who cares. Wyromania literally has stuff that bid on that cannot be farmed by a single player.

Sitting in a room by yourself and fishing isn’t disruptive. Taking a shit and singing to gems at your table isn’t disruptive. Even bigshot when setup correctly isn’t disruptive. Afk alchemy isn’t disruptive. Fletching isn’t disruptive.

The game has no endgame. It is player vs environment. I already have a brother, I don’t need big brother watching out for me. We aren’t competing for anything.

I can see if a dude is running in a loop for 2 hours etc etc. There are valid reasons for warnings and putting down the ban hammer but all this is just garbage.

They have added so many new and amazing things to the game and a few shitty things, 2022 will even be more capped content, but when they start acting like the KGB it’s kinda like whatever.

The game itself just really only requires server hosting space right? I really have no idea how much that type of thing costs but considering this game must be on the low end of server space I would say, what, maybe a couple grand a month?

If you’re including Chris in billing and Wyrom (to my knowledge the only 2 paid employees) then I don’t know, at least 100k a year for their salaries, probably more.

If we’re including the office space this game helps to pay for and all of the paid graphic designers and coders they employee to work on their phone games and graphical PC games…not sure. I don’t think any of their games ever did well, I would like to think at least one game they made paid for itself, but who knows.

They are probably paying close to a thousand for some old high SLA connection but low bandwidth. When they released the new front-end update, which was about 20mb or so, it took several seconds to download which is hilarious because it should have been instant.

The rest is salaries and payouts to the GMs from profit sharing or sales or whatever system they use from pay events.

The servers they bought aren't particularly high end or expensive.

I have no problems being open with the cringe shit I am capable of. I went to see if I still had any emails from that time period and it also included my trying to get my money back because the simucon loot bags were like 6 months overdue.

I never got the refund and they reskinned the talking bird everyone got as a different bird, shoved it into my cloak and that's when my ban went through lol. So it was a combination of the push back on that and the cursing in the email.

There are MUDs that are larger than GS and run out of people's garages. I don't know how true it is anymore but a while ago there were only a handful of MUD-affiliated people at Simu that drew a salary. Wyrom was one, Chris in billing was another. The majority of the money GS made got redirected to Whatley's pet mobile projects. Now that Stillfront is in the picture I imagine they get the lion's share of ForeverFestival money. GMs also get a portion depending on their involvement.

tl;dr GS makes a ton of money by itself, has little overhead, and whales aren't 'keeping the servers open'.
