Zombies over-running mankind? Plagues of locusts devouring all vegatation and causing mass starvation/rioting? Complete and total nuclear war?

What is your preferred doomsday scenario?

I suppose my ideal one would be everyone getting sick "ala the stand" scenario where only a few people survive it all to rebuild society.

Meteor on the other side of the world, my extended family (at least the ones that won't kill eachother) in the mountains or something for vacation. Oh, and our neighbors, also vacationing, is a family with a good looking blonde daughter my age.

That or a nuke in my sleep.

I don't know. Something cool. Like finding a way to aerosolize botulism and make it highly communicable. Then having a terrorist use it to wipe out all of mankind.

FYI, it would only take 7 oz. of botulism to kill the entire planet plus another billion people.

Or the Earth could explode for no apparent reason. That would suck. Especially for virgins, they get no forewarning.

The next stock market crash prompts a worldwide market crash.

Everyone scrambles to meet their basic needs but cannot.

Politicans are forcefully removed from seats of power and shot in their heads.

Someone pushes the big red button.

IMO Everything will always come down to money in the end.

Being told that a meteor will slam into the Earth ending all existence in 30 minutes while being locked in a room with Elisha Cuthbert.

A revolution in which the masses throw down virtually every current power in a long, bloody war. Afterwards, they discover that their ideas do not work and everyone starves to death.

Umm...is there an ideal doomsday? I can't think of one. :scared:

Given that there will inevitably be a doomsday (end of the world), there must be one that is better than the rest. I'm going with this one:

"This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven."

I also respectfully suggest that those scenarios that have people surviving are kinda cheating.

Its my firm belief, barring a total wipe out like supernova or collision with a massive object hurling through space, that life will survive in some form or another.

I am also very confident that no matter what situation we get ourselves into, there will be survivors who will carry on with hopefully an enlightened understanding of how to progress.

I also plan on being one of those people.

I'm thinking a technological breakdown that is far reaching, including a blackout of ALL forms of mass communication worldwide. Massive hysteria ensues. Planet earth blacks out. Volcanoes, eatherquakes, tsunamis; The whole nine yards, and the only survivors are West Virginians.

Given recent events, it might be more ironic if the only survivors were Indonesians AND North Koreans.

I guess my question is how we're defining doomsday. If we just mean a great cataclysm, then yeah, those scenarios work fine. I was thinking we were talking about the end of all humanity, though.
I also plan on being one of those people. See Artha's suggestion. :saint:

As was I... Man, now I have to rethink the destruction of society WITH survivors!

Let's see, I'm probably most a fan of structural society ending due to a poisoning of the water. You would have to be quite isolated to escape that, but I'm sure a few people would. The waterworld scenerio works for me too.

All in all, I'm very much opposed to the whole idea of asteroids colliding into earth, the sun exploding and depriving us of all light etc because I honestly feel when/if the world ends, most of the blame will rest on our species, not the celestial bodies or some other random event.

If the sun explodes, while we may be in darkness, it wouldn't be for long. I'm not positive, but I think an exploding sun would take us out too.

All men other than me die, as well as fat, ugly, and otherwise unattractive chicks.

The human race lasts, therefore, as long as I do. What an awesome way to go.

We invent time travel and create a temporal paradox destroying the whole universe. If we're going to go...lets take it all with us!

Besides...no one would even notice it, it would be instantaneous.

We'll eventually pollute our environment enough to reach critical mass and there will be no saving it. Since as a species we tend to breed like flies our population will only exacerbate the problem.

A terrific novel on that scenario is 'The Last Gasp' by Trevor Hoyle. Pretty fun read. Another good one is 'Nature's End' by hitley Streiber & James Kunetka.

Both scenarios are entirely possible, we just have to keep electing Republicans.
