I'm thinking about polymorphing to another race. Currently Half-Krolvin. I'm to understand that Dark Elf is probably the best option mechanically but I'm not sure I want to go that route. So, outside the D-elf, what would people recommend and why?

Play whatever is fun. A DE has only +10 more CS than a HK. It's not necessarily a game changer. HK cold resist could be super handy in the next hunting ground (hinterwilds), and they definitely have better HP / Carrying capacity to avoid getting encumbered and death to SMR as easily.
