View Full Version : An Assist?
This ranger is a melee warrior with spells that can also skin. He wears double chain..the 8% hindrance is manageable. I have no frame of reference, but he seems to do fine. However, I wonder if he could be doing better. So, thought on stats and skills? Recommendations? Thank you in advance....Pops

You should fully single CM. You'll be hurting for AS eventually and the odd Maneuver you can pick up is always helpful.

you also have 33 spells at level 31.
IMO you should have 32 spells. IMO (again, and I'm by no means a ranger expert), training a ranger anything over 1x spells is ludicrous for what you have to sacrifice in the interrum.
I'd put those extra points in CM though like Stray noted.

I agree. I had a similar training on my ranger for a while and then realized it's easy enough to get 101, 103, and 107 from someone and I saved myself a huge amount of spell training.
I'd ditch those spirit spells and get the CM. Also bumping up your dodging and PT is usually required for melee hunters.
Drop shield and dodge down to 1x. Anything higher is an absolute waste of points. Rangers never need more than 1x harness power. If you are coming back from a hunt and have used all your mana you may not be hunting the right way for a ranger. My ranger is 1.3x in spells and I often come back from a hunt with full mana, but occasionally I come back with none. That's how ranger spells should work, to pull you out of a bind and to set up the creatures you are hunting.
CM should be higher and you are way way ahead on armour training, I've never seen a ranger that young with that much. You can probably safely stop in that.

I'm 2 spells over 1x, but I figured I would get em with my stat reallocation. I'm not training in spells til 58-59, extra points going to either MoC or PF.

Dozens of long thorns suddenly grow out from the ground underneath a shan ranger! Several of the thorns jab into the ranger!
... hits for 8 points of damage!

Strike pierces calf!
It is knocked to the ground!
The shan ranger is stunned!
... hits for 27 points of damage!

Well placed shot pierces knee, that hurt!
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.

You gesture while summoning the spirits of nature to aid you with the Spike Thorn spell...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a shan ranger.
Dozens of long thorns suddenly grow out from the ground underneath a shan ranger! Several of the thorns jab into the ranger!
... hits for 13 points of damage!
... 30 points of damage!
Well aimed strike shatters bone in left arm!
... hits for 22 points of damage!
... 30 points of damage!
Great shot penetrates thigh and shatters bone!
... hits for 38 points of damage!
... 35 points of damage!
Strike to wrist severs left hand!
The ranger's steel buckler falls to the ground.
The shan ranger howls out one last time and dies.
That's the weirdest ranger training plan I've ever seen.

Looks like a decent Monk/Druid/Spikesorc plan. Lack of armor use makes me cringe.
I had one like that but it did no shield use, less harness power and less mana control in favour of getting more spirit spells for the airwall/spirit fog/alkars bonus. I think Keller also did something similar but switched.

Works very well for me.
He usually wears wizard spells and blues so it's not an issue until spell burst.
Spikes everything, wracks if needed, quickest hunts I've had since Repel.
To everyone who responded, my thanks. I appreciate your thoughts and recommendations.
StrayRogue....what do you mean I'll eventually be hurting for AS?
Stunseed...I've seen posts about your redux. Is it the training in PF, which is the primary redux variable, which makes it so, or is there more to it?
I was actually alot higher in shield..did the migration thing down to the current level and don't plan to train in it until I am on level.
Also, skinning isn't as lucrative as I thought it would be. I have read something about values being, in part, tied to how hunted is an area. Is skinning worthwhile?
I just started messing with CM and don't have enough to make a difference...yet. Hoping that will change as I get to third level.
Again, my thanks!! Pops:cool::cool:

That's more than half the battle, other secondary skills help alot, such as the MOC, CM, higher Armor Use/Shield Use ( to an extent ).
Stunseed, what about skinning? Are the tps used for first aid and survival well spent? You don't have FA or Surv, but I think I read somewhere that you do just fine in the skinning dept. Is that all 604?
Thanks, Pops:cool::cool:

Used to be. Skins ( everywhere I can/want to hunt ) have dried up, so I'm concentrating on hunting. Also the fact I'm well off at this point and time.

You can wear 65 mana worth of spells you can't cast in a spirit burst area with just those skills you have currently.
Thats:
401
406
414
503
509
911
103
107
202
And you'd still have 9 mana you could wear on anything else.

Survival is a good skill for a ranger to have simply for RP reasons, in Icemule you are less likely to get iceburn/slip, in swamps it lowers your RT, on top of the skinning help.
