Okay, I'm trying to install Windows XP Home on another computer and it's all, "Hey give me a 25 character serial key." The only one I have is the one on this computer, and I've heard nothing but bad things about XP serials. Am I going to get fucked if two computers that I own have the same serial? I just can't see how Microsoft would fuck people into buying a copy of XP for every computer they want to install it on.

Actually, Bob, I don't think the OEM license allows Windows XP to be transferred to a different computer. :(

I did it on two computers at home. Just rang the number and got a new serial number without any problem

You can use the serial code for as many PC's as you want, the copy is only valid for one PC thou. Wont stop the install any.

If I do use the same serial key as my own, is XP going to refuse to load somewhere down the line?

Nope, just don't register it.

:computer: When I put XP on a second computer, I call, tell them that I had to format my computer, they give me a new number and it's all good.

Nope, but you won't be able to "activate" XP (30 day leway period) until you get a correct key. Call up Microsoft, say you reformatted, and they'll give you the activation code. There won't be any additional issues, ever.

I built my computer using parts from my old computer. The only thing that was basically the same was the harddrive (which I reformated) and the video drive. I used the same serial number, never called. Never had any problems.

I did a very, very stupid thing. Is there any way to edit BIOS from Windows? I can't do it when it starts up because the stupid thing I did was fuck up the BIOS video settings. I can no longer receive a video signal from the computer until XP loads.

Don't know what your Mother Board is but if you can locate the cmos battery pop it out for a bit let it drain and reinstall and BIOS settings should be back to defaults.

I don't trust myself to remove the battery and have given up on it.
This computer just won't be displaying anything before the OS loads.
