View Full Version : Martial Mastery question
I know this isn't a rogue specific question but it is in regard to how I hunt mine, so I thought I'd try here. Sorry about that.
I am tempted to fixskill into martial mastery instead of having 425 and 107. The only thing is I would take a DS hit due to the lack of spells.
So when the Naijin says it's a sideways training alternative for squares instead of + 50 AS from 475, I'm not seeing how thats actually going to be comparable to dropping spells entirely and goint 2x in 3 weapon skills.
The drop in DS is the only thing that's got me cautioning against it.
I suppose the only question is, does martial mastery help with DS in anyway as well as AS? If not, then it's definitely not worth it.

I know nothing about it but I think if you pair martial mastery with Kroderine Soul, you gain redux against spells and those gambits. I am guessing on its own without KS, juice not worth the squeeze but I will defer to the big dawgs on that
thanks I never considered KS. Ill have a look though!

Another thing to consider is the use of scrolls and items to make up for the spells, and spell ups. I've thought about this myself. I could drop all my spell ranks and then cap out all weapon skills for max redux, and end up with a close to but slightly higher AS. Like you, I'd lose some defense, but I can easily get most of that back with the minor elementals and minor spirituals. Basically everything except 430. This would be going back to the method I used to use before I had enough EXP to make it worth it to get the spell levels. Unfortunately I sold my 425 and 430 self-chargers. That would be the shit right now. You could get the best of both worlds that way.
A downside with scrolls/items is that dispell in high levels can wipe out a ton of your spells, and you wouldn't get them back via mana spellup.
Anyway, I tested it on the server and it was close to a wash. I think my AS was slightly higher, DS was slightly lower, and going full on martial mastery without KS was more tedious for spell ups but otherwise doable.
Cheers, yes I saw your posts on the officials. I've been following what you've been discussing to try to make a proper decision.
I would love to go Kroderine Soul and Martial Mastery due to that being how I really envisioned a square. Just blade and armour really appeals to me. Plus obviously you'd get some hella redux to go with it.
The simplicity of zero magic apart from societies would be great.
Honestly I don't see a lot of info on KS. It seems to be pretty nebulous in what it actually does. I haven't seen anything anywhere to explain it fully.
I think the idea was to accept the loss of TD and magical DS (dunno if thats a thing) because you're gaining resistance anyway so who cares if you even get warded.
I have to admit I have no clue what it will be like and am pretty sure Im willing to drop some £££ on fixskilling into and then possibly out of the training paths depending how it works out.
I'm still looking at your posts elsewhere in the meantime.

Ive been playing a KS warrior now for something like 30 levels. I love it and see it as the only way going forward as it suits my playstyle (self-sufficient, single hunter, one main, no alts)
I wanted to wean myself off the the x/day treadmill, and I've found the best way for me to enjoy the game is to get off as many revenue treadmills the revenue devs try to get you to jump on. After they sold x/days like candy, tuned up dispel effects throughout the game, then sold dispel protection, I was done with the outside spells game. But I digress.
Some points to consider:
- Going KS adds another ~5% of physical redux to your non-KS figure. Assuming you are wearing heavier armor, that 5% increase may offset any raw DS losses you may experience.
- Magic redux is around 30% to start and increases as you level. As above, may offset any TD losses you experience.
- KS and martial mastery are a natural fit as KS gives you a major benefit if you have to lose access to many spells. (redux, magic redux, and the two KS-only CMANs, both of which can be activated in RT)
- The only pain right now is that there is no way to remedy popped muscles as KS since the solutions are all magical (even the alchemy potions).
