View Full Version : Tucker Carlson is Now Mainstreaming Fascism. Literally.

For those who don't know, Tucker Carlson's show is being broadcast from Hungary all week (https://www.newsweek.com/why-tucker-carlson-budapest-fox-news-far-right-conference-viktor-orban-1615553?amp=1) and will be praising Orban, the country's fascist authoritarian leader. The same man who installed one party rule in Hungary to functionally gutted their democracy.
And for those who don't know the history of Hungary, here's a great write up (https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/9/13/17823488/hungary-democracy-authoritarianism-trump), but here's the gist:
The anti-communist party that brought democracy to Hungary was run by their current Prime Minister Ordan. He completely took over the party and turned it into a hard line, far right Christian and Ethno-Nationalist party. He primarily ran on an extremely racist anti-immigration platform and portrayed Hungary as under constant attack from immigrants. It's still his favorite talking point, and he used it as justification for the insane things I'm listing out next:
Ordan was elected in 2010 with a supermajority in Parliament. He and his party immediately began rewriting the Constitution. They used that to allow themselves to engage in extreme gerrymandering (sound familiar?), splitting up cities where they could and creating districts with unequal numbers of people in them. More people in the liberal districts and far fewer people in the more rural areas that supported him.
Then they went to work on the Supreme Court. They expanded the number of Judges significantly with his own picks and then wrote a law forcing anyone over 62 to retire- which let them install even more of their Judges. They continued to pack lower courts with hand picked Judges who could be trusted to rule as the party/Ordan wished.
Like any good dictator, he of course was rabidly anti-"mainstream" media and used that heavily in his campaign narratives. So once he was elected, the state used its regulatory power to force private media outlets to sell themselves to the government or to media conglomerates that were run by his hand-picked people. The State now functionally controls 90% of the media outlets in the country. Every election outlets churn out massive amounts of pro-Fidezs (Ordan's party) candidate content and then refuse to run any political ads for any opposition candidates.
To help win elections, his party creates fake political parties to split the opposition vote, and his party passed a law giving Hungarians birthright citizenship AND gave every citizen access to full benefits (including retirement) even if they weren't living or working in Hungary. Even if they'd never been to Hungary. It added 1 million new voters (10% of the electorate)- guess how they vote? Government-sponsored retaliation against opposition candidates is also the norm.
The government also systematically takes over companies it wants to own by forcing them to sell (it's the same thing they did with the private media outlets). If you refuse, you'll suddenly find a brand new tax that's so high that you can't continue to operate, and you'll be forced to sell eventually or just shut down entirely.
And he's destroyed all LGBTQ rights as part of his ardent Christian nationalism.
This is the man that Tucker Carlson is going to be promoting to US conservatives. A literal fascist authoritarian who functionally destroyed the democracy in Hungary.
And if the tactics above are starting to sound familiar that's because they are. The GOP has been using the same tactics to try to cement one party rule as well.
This should send a chill down every American's spine.

Give me a break.
Really? He's spending all week promoting a literal fascist authoritarian who dismantled democracy in his country. He's trying to get conservatives to buy into that kind of government. He's literally telling viewers that what the authoritarian, ethno-nationalist leader who gutted his country's democracy did is the best way to protect democracy.
When did that become okay and no big deal?

It’s hard to take alt-leftists such as you seriously when you cry about a political pundit supposedly promoting supposed authoritarians when you all spent the past 4 years maliciously going after everyone you disagreed with and dragged their good names through the mud in an effort to prevent people being appointed judges and other positions within the government, then you remain silent as violent leftist psychopaths firebomb and set police vehicles and buildings on fire, you all sat there with a smile on your face while you did it.
Maybe look in the mirror if you’re wondering why no one cares about your trumped up nonsense.

Lol. Everyone knows tucker can't be taken seriously. It was his literal defense in court.
Except people do. He's arguably the most influential far right figure among conservatives in the US (whose last name isn't Trump).
And just to make things even more insane- it's actually part of a foreign influence campaign by Hungary. They paid someone to arrange the Tucker Carlson interview.
The thing to take note of, though, is how much of the early stuff he did is identical to what the GOP has been trying to do.
It's not a coincidence. Poland did the same thing. Steve Bannon is out in Europe promoting Ordan's brand of populism in other European countries.

I especially love the part about the supreme court expanding the number of judges so the new president could pick the new judges, Joe Biden LITERALLY SAID he was going to look into court packing if he won and Democrats in Congress ran on court packing and has urged Biden and Democrats in congress to look into packing the supreme court. Also the bit about forcing justices to retire, Democrats are ALSO calling for term limits on our supreme court justices.
This is why I said people don't give a shit when alt-leftists such as time4fun scream about this shit.
It's just like every time there is an election in a country where a right leaning person wins there are immediately accusations of "That wasn't a fair and democratic election!!!!" yet we aren't even allowed to question the election results in our own country if a Democrat wins.
Your words ring hollow, time4fun. Blame no one else but you and your own party.

I think he only has the ability to do that for complexes receiving federal aide. It is mostly a state thing anyways, and the reason it really worked last time was because it is a civil matter and all those courts put eviction cases on the backburner until a set date.

Reading what he said, it's essentially:
1. It's worse than the flu, but transmitted similarly - true.
2. He didn't want to create a public panic - true.
Also the article linked doesn't have the context of the statements - questions asked that he was responding to, or the comments after - so I'll take it at partial face value.
They messed up at the beginning, no doubt.. then quickly righted the course. Don't make me start linking all the Democrat clips during that time frame "downplaying it", calling Trump a "xenophobe" for placing travel restrictions, telling people - against the Presidents guidance - to ignore him and "go about their daily lives", etc.
Politics on both side have corrupted this, not just one. And with the mounting evidence, links, correlations between certain Scientific administrators and Fauci specifically... imagine having to make decisions with that jackass advising... and I mean that for both Trump and Biden. Biden should kick him out with all of the revelations, but they haven't yet.
Biden has bungled this just like he did Afghanistan. Finally, finally!, they are starting to talk about modifying the vaccine like they do the Flu one to adjust for annual changes.. but because this administration are standard politicians, it is going extremely slow. Hopefully they stop politicizing it and get the fuck out of the way... but the power it affords them is to much at this point sadly.
So no.. it's not he was telling a joke..

I'm sure the Conservashit crowd is going to fall back on the Orange Man telling a joke excuse.
Remember how everyone on the left called Trump a racist xenophobe for shutting down traffic from China and then told us that covid was no big deal and to go hang out in Chinatown to show how not racist we are?
Or are you one of those people who believe the left has been truthful throughout all of this?

Seran is so fucking dumb he still thinks Trump is to blame for a contagious virus spreading and killing people but Biden isn't responsible for his colossal Afghanistan fuckup that cost the lives of 13 US military members and hundreds of Afghans.

What's really tragic, had the Clinton Democrats not been so baby boohoo about losing in 2016, Democrats probably could have advanced a great deal of their agenda. Trump is not that conservative, would have been much easier to get him to sign an infrastructure bill than any other conservative.
Yeah, the Republican controlled Senate was so serious about passing an infrastructure bill they refused to meet with Democrats on the issue.

Erm.. No. Trump's own party, which had control of all 3 branches of government, literally couldn't repeal Obamacare -- the thing the ENTIRE party ran on.
The only substantive thing they managed to pass was -- you guessed it -- tax give-aways which disproportionately benefit the super-wealthy.

We need a Trump dam blocking the Mississippi river. Make it the largest hydroelectric dam in the world, the largest man made lake in the world, Trump reservoir. Then build the worlds largest irrigation system to transport water to the west.... the Trump aqueducts.

Republicans are playing chicken with our country's ability to pay it's bills. When the United State's defaults and the resulting stock market crashes and government shutdown proceeds, the Republicans will have hamstrung our economy. Good luck getting re-elected then.
Senate Republicans blocked a Democrat-backed bill to fund the government and raise the debt ceiling on Monday in a move that will leave Democratic leaders with just a few days to avert a government shutdown and potential default on U.S. debt obligations.

Capitalism only works when things that have no value are allowed to fail. If we would have had the courage to allow this to happen decades ago the fall wouldn't be so severe.
The only way out is to exploit the natural resources the federal government has been blocking.

If that were true than the debt ceiling increase and spending authorization would have passed. Except it didn't, it was blocked by Republican senators in a party line vote. Since they blocked the Democrats attempt and stated publicly they won't produce one of their own, Republicans are responsible for the results

I'm also not sure why you're saying this after the UN Climate report just came out. I mean this is beyond suicidal. They made it really clear- we're in A LOT of trouble in our best case scenario. You continuing to hate environmentalism- which is the movement that's been trying to save you and your kids all these years- is absurd. They were right all along by the way- and you were so beyond dead wrong. The whole time you were denying climate change and then denying it was caused by humans you were so unbelievably wrong.
And you're still sitting here like an asshole talking about using more fossil fuels.

I love the environment. That's why I want to build hydro electric dams, giant recreational reservoirs with housing developments. I want to use US resourced iron, copper, rare earth elements, lumber....
What you want results in people living under bridges.
People like you are going to have to relocate or learn to swim. There's far too much fresh farmland that will be accessible as our planet moves towards a warmer cycle in it's eons of historical climate change.
Not my fault you have chosen to live in a coastal region. We are doing great in middle America, this is going to be a bumper crop season and we don't use irrigation.
P.S. The UN can get the fuck out and we can keep our tax dollars for our own development.

There is no such thing as a UN who said we only have 12 years left.
But the timelines they've given us have been completely accurate.
We're already dealing with the effects of serious climate change. And it's only gonna to get worse from here.

California has done it through the Aquaduct, so I'm sure it's possible. But the system of rivers, canals, pumps and ultimately reservoirs necessary to transport water over the Rockies would cost hundreds of billions of dollars. Given the Senate can't even pass funding on one trillion benefiting the country, I doubt there's any eagerness to devote this kind of money to benefit the country west of the rockies

Why do you have so many strong opinions on subjects you know so little about?
They could propose that, assuming McConnell doesn't block it, assuming that the Senate Parliamentarian doesn't block it, asumming Senate Republicans don't try to add so many amendments in committee and in the floor to kill the reconciliation, assuming there's enough time before the nation defaults.
That's a lot of assumptions and unknowns that McConnell clearly doest care about by instituting the upcoming Republican Default. Would have been a lot simpler to just increase the debt limit and pass the continuing resolution over debt and spending Republicans helped create.
