[Old Ta'Faendryl, Market Road]
You notice a war griffin (flying), an Ithzir seer, an Ithzir herald, a scratched silver chest, a spiral-hafted handaxe, a twisted crystal-tipped staff, a gleaming steel broadsword, a charcoal grey shield and a heavy star-flanged mace.
Obvious paths: east, southeast, south

A war griffin dives down and hooks its claws into you! With a great flap of its wings the war griffin carries you into the air!

Just as the griffin begins to surge upward, it suddenly loses its grip and lets you plummet toward the ground!

You twist awkwardly as you try to break your fall with something other than your head!

Glancing blow to your left eye scratches cornea!

An Ithzir seer closes his eyes and holds his palms flat over an Ithzir scout, clearly concentrating. Suddenly the Ithzir scout's right leg wound begins to mend together, the flesh melding and smoothing over until there is no sign that the injury ever existed!

The Ithzir seer opens his eyes slowly, and you notice that he appears faintly drained.

Weak slash across chest!

Electric blast goes right to the heart! You'll miss that steady beat.
Your SIGN OF DISSIPATION is no longer effective.
The buzz of thoughts in your mind subsides.
The deep blue glow leaves you.
The tingling sensation and sense of security leaves you.
You no longer bristle with energy.
You feel the aura of confidence leave you.
You feel your extra strength departing.
Your SIGN OF SHIELDS is no longer effective.
The dim aura fades from around you.
Like a faint wisp of a barely-remembered dream, your brief, enhanced comprehension of arcane mysteries slips away.
You become solid again.
You no longer feel so dextrous.
The shimmering multicolored sphere fades from around you.
Your SIGN OF SMITING is no longer effective.
The light blue glow leaves you.
You feel your extra magical awareness leave you.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around you.
Your SIGN OF WARDING is no longer effective.
The bright luminescence fades from around you.
The glowing specks of energy surrounding you suddenly shoot off in all directions, then quickly fade away.
Your SIGN OF STRIKING is no longer effective.
The silvery luminescence fades from around you.
Your SIGN OF DEFENDING is no longer effective.
The opalescent aura fades from around you.
The brilliant aura fades away from you.
Your SIGN OF SWORDS is no longer effective.
The layer of stone surrounding you crumbles away.
The powerful look leaves you.
You feel less confident than before.

It seems you have died, my friend. Although you cannot do anything, you are keenly aware of what is going on around you...

You mentally give a sigh of relief as you remember that the Goddess Lorminstra owes you a favor.

...departing in 10 mins...

The Ithzir scout quickly cleans the fresh blood from her crystal-edged broadsword with a few wipes across your clothing.

An Ithzir seer rifles through your gear! Somebody call a constable!

The Ithzir seer removes some deathstone earrings inset with three black pearl dragons from your corpse! Smiling excitedly, the seer wears the earrings. At least he appears to like your fashion tastes!

Thanks to Nodread, Wulfguy, Beryl, and Meos. A great rescue and they got my stuff back.

That'll teach me - I did not have enough mana to Cone, I should have moved. But I needed just one more griffin to fry... :D

Those damn scouts... gotta love their guild skills, ambushing, and crystal weapons.

My favorite line:

Glad you got your gear back. I ran out earlier today to assist Bromo in getting back his waraxe but he'd already recovered it when I made it to the sentinels. Ithzir seemed to be really fiesty today it seems.

I recommend being spelled up as much as the spirit burst will allow you to be while in that area... or hunt there naked with throwaway gear so you wont worry when you die.

Or, be like some folks and do a quick depart before they can start rummaging through your gear. Just remember that departing will NOT take you out of OTF - just to a sancted spot (Niche) within, but it will allow you to recover spirit and spells to eventually make a mad dash back to the portal/sentinels.

is there a limit to what they can steal?

<< Do you have to be that spelled up to be able to hunt there? >>

Not really, I just have self-charging toys with most of the spells. I can hunt OTF self spelled - I have a DB cloak I do not bother to wear because manuever attacks are how usually die.

They like to steal magical trinkets, coins, gems, and weapon/shield. They pry it out of your hands, off your person, and out of containers. I havnt heard of them stealing clothing items, but jewelery/magical items are a favorite for theft.

They cant reach double bagged items, but can rummage through cloaks, sacks, and anything else that doesnt have a special lock that would keep it closed.

Gimmie. I can't believe you'd locker a DB cloak when you've got a polearm using wizard on the same side of the mountains as you! The nerve.

And yeah when I hunt there it's with throw away shield and ebladed handaxe. And I've got a ring set to the portal so if I depart I can just .ring and I'm safe.

Damnit.. I guess my easy hunting grounds is over. Le sigh, I was about to ask if there is another easy spot like bonespear and temple wyneb for me to hunt for future trains. :(

I have family that fight over that cloak, and it's not one of the best (only +13).

+13 would make up for my armor being 2x. And I'm more important than family, think of the profession man!

The Aquaduct areas in OTF (gremlocks, beings, taints) are easy enough. After that there are only the Rift and OTF proper.
