Wall of force, spirit guide etc. These short period spells all lies in the pvp category spells. They might as well be, since that is when they're usually used.

What about us, who try and stay out of those conflicts?

p.s Make wall of force last longer damnit!!

/end rant

Noooo.. I want to be able to use Wall of force at least.. it doesn't stay very long. I guess i was vague.

Oooh, you want to use those spells to keep PVP'ers off you?

If you need WoF up to stop them, then there's already trouble.

You could try snagging an inviso amulet!

I remember watching characters pile on 140 (150 then).
4 hours of WoF.

I know, but 90 seconds is bit short don't you think? At least make it 5 minutes, because that's how long it takes me to hunt anyway..

I use wall of force on rescues or on constantly while in OTF. It serves a purpose, but I do agree it should be increasable somehow.

Like, I put it on when I go to a dangerous area. I have to hunt and look for critters to kill, I mean they don't usually swarm in 90 seconds, then wall of force is gone.

And for rescuing.. Rescuing takes more than 90 seconds, unless you're a fogger.. and even then, you still need the DS if you hope to rescue someone in a much dangerous area.

There's no way to justify being unstoppable. When warriors get a skill that increases our redux by 20% for 5 minutes, then I can see WoF having a longer duration.

Asha

I use it in invasions, when I've got 9 boxes in my cloak, when I'm rifted and when I've less than 5 spirit.

It's not a total waste.

Shalla
04-17-2005, 11:23 AM
I don't think any spell is a total waste, there is a use for them in one point or the other.. but a 40 level spell should make it a little more useful.. especially for that much mana.

I actually haven't used this spell for awhile...I guess I should try and remember it when I get empathetic dispelled or some other crap.

When hunting with others, if someone is disarmed or disabled in a high level hunting area, it is a good spell to use. Atleast, that is what I am told.

They did the same thing to wizards shield too didnt they?

I only use WoF when I'm about to kick someone's ass, below half of total spirit, fogging with 130, or when I happen to die/depart and am spelling back up to make a run from the OTF niche to the sentinels.

Because its duration is so short, I try not to make it a requirement spell to hunt OTF.

Yes Wizard Shield is short lived as well.

I'm pretty sure Anticor could or does run Wizard Shield constantly. It costs about half the mana, gives half the DS, and lasts 2/3 as long, but still. It's possible to keep 140 up constantly, you just have to give up something else. That's what Gemstone is all about.

Feh, the people who want to keep WOF up constantly are those OHC'ing bastards.

<3 Wizards who can hunt consistently with 506 and 919 running.

Shalla

Okay, to keep casting Wall of force to hunt, I have to keep a supply of mana. Every other defense spell I have has a longer duration, the only thing that takes alot of my mana is offensive spells to kill. I should give up using 705 then, and using blood burst to kill everything.. and hopefully I'll have enough mana to keep wall of force up.

Wall of force, with it's duration.. I don't think can be a hunting defense spell..

If you need 100 DS to hunt somewhere that isn't OTF/way over your head, you should probably go ahead and reroll.

Shalla

I don't need 100 ds. I just happen to need 50. and the only thing in my spell list that I could use is wall of force without having to rely on others.

Edaarin

And then there are people for whom any amount of spells didn't help. Haashek. Haha.

If you are unable to fry with the mana you have, go out with more exp in your head, or don't worry about frying.

I'm confused.
If the thread is about hunting critters, isnt it named a little wrong?

I was all excited.

Or you could be an empath as shown in Artha's empath guide and just sit and heal......

I'd rather have a slow death by a dull spoon than do that, but thats just me.

I just think because it's a higher level spell, it should be more useful in more ways than one, and not have to compromise to use it, or be limited to it's use. I would understand if it's a lower level spell.

Anyway, the title was because I thought it's more commonly used when defending against pvp.

Bobmuhthol

A lower level spell requires less compromise, because it's already balanced enough. The higher spells are, the more you have to compromise, because you can't (aren't supposed so) use all of them at once and be invincible.

<3 WOF.

If I don't have wizard spells I keep WOF up constantly when Im hunting in OTF. It would be great if there was a way to make it last maybe 5 minutes or something. 90 seconds is a bit lame.

Or you could heal all day , instead.
I'll bring the spoon for you and popcorn for me.

90 seconds is lame. 3-5 minutes tops. Then I wouldn't mind having to cast it over and over.. and to compromise and limited to casting lower end spells to maintain it.

The whole purpose of the duration change to Wall of Force (and wizard's shield) was so that you don't NEED them to hunt. They were changed to be made useful in emergency type situations (or pvp too I suppose).

Look at it like this.. If the spell had its old duration, critters' base AS would be higher than it is now and you'd probably get hit frequently if you didn't have the spell running, which also means you get to spend all that mana to stack 4 hours of the spell on yourself.

And if you're willing to spend 40 mana a minute while you're out hunting, consider yourself invincible to AS based attacks.

Then: Necessary to have while hunting

Now: Not needed to hunt, but makes you near invincible when you are using it, even if only for 1-2 minutes at a time.

Also if the duration was increased to 5 minutes or whatever, the whole change of the spell's duration would be pointless and we'd be back at square one.

No... Really. I haven't heard that one before... ever. We don't have internet, shoes, OR indoor plumbing down here. Not to mention we don't have the internet.
