Ok, so like, 4 days ago I went back into weight training after having been away from the gym for about a year.

I had a friend who's a body builder come up with a routine for me, and then guide me through the exercises to make sure I could do it, and that my form was good.

Anyway, I was working on my hamstrings, quads, calves on Wednesday, and probably went a bit too hard on them because as of right now, my right calf seems to be locked up.

Basically, it's swollen and I cannot stand on it to save my life, I'm having a tough time straightening it out in a standing position.

When I do stand, it naturally wants me to walk on my toes (ie: tip toe), and it takes a great deal of effort and pain to straighten it out.

Is this bad or does it just mean I need to keep resting?

It's just from overworking it. You'll be fine in a couple of days.

I'd suggest some rest and icing this injury. For stretch before icing, point your foot up as far as you can, then down as far as you can several times...WITHOUT undue pain. Take 400 mg of Ibuprofen three times a day for a few days to reduce inflammation.

The swelling is the key here. If there's swelling, there's inflammation. If you continue to overtax that area, the inflammation can lead to serious injury. If the swelling and pain don't go away in a couple of days, see an orthopaedist who specializes in sports medicine, just to be sure you haven't done damage to a tendon.

Whatever you do, stay off it for as much as you can. I am always messing up my legs one way or another. Helps to just give it a couple day's rest.

Well, I'm taking Sodium Naproxane, and that seems to be really helpful :)

Beyond that, I'm going to borrow a friends pair of crutches, and try to favor the good leg.. Have been doing the heat/ice/stretch thing as much as I can..

For muscle pain, vitamin C helps.

I recommend twin-labs C-1000 caps.

You can take up to three a day. Space them out throughout the day. Don't pop three at once. Drink lots of water too.

Don't work it again until the soreness and swelling go away. It's very hard to make any gains when you seriously injure yourself.
