So after years of shrugging off injuries, I finally got an MRI to check out my knee. No meniscal problems, but nothing like a good old fashioned complete ACL tear. I have opted to man up and continue strengthening my knee and will be getting a custom bionic ligament brace. Just in time for softball season :D

So you are not going to have it scoped.. just rehab it? Why?
You would be MUCH better off just getting the surgery and taking off a couple days.. THEN rehab.

Because there was no noticeable cartilage or meniscal problems. Thus it's either ACL reconstruction or bust. A good old scoping won't do much.

Ah. That does indeed suck.
I would go for the surgery though.. I wouldn't fuck around with my knee hoping it will heal itself.

I think with partial tears you could theoretically get it scoped to get rid of the torn parts. But with a complete tear, can't do shit. At this point in my life, (considering it's my right knee) I am not in a position to want to not be able to drive for 2 months, then go through rehab for 6 months.

"There is a complete tear of the anterior cruciate ligament with no normal intact fibers definitively seen and slight anterior position of the tibia in relation to the distal femur."

On the brighter side, this is what the brace I'm getting will look like... though picture it in dark blue.

It fucking sucked because the swelling didn't go away for months and I couldn't do squats or any heavy leg exercises for nearly 1 year. After that, though, I was very happy with it. I would say that the left knee is actually stronger than the right one now.
Did it help with the swelling? I broke my ankle and leg about 2 years ago, and the swelling is now getting worse, not better.

Gah, Soulpie! While that's an impressive looking brace, the injury sounds painful as hell! Hope the bracing works for you.

You probably need to bring that to your doctor's attention, Jorddyn. There could be some problem with circulation, or it could be that further damage has occurred. :(

If it weren't so depressing and true, I'd come up with a comeback :(

I did. The biggest problem is that I can't currently have an MRI because I still have metal hardware in my ankle, so I'd have to have surgery to remove the hardware to have the MRI to see if I need surgery, in which case I should just have the damn surgery in the first place. I'm hoping it's going to go away on its own. I'm guessing it won't.

So now that the softball season is over, I've decided to go forth with ACL Reconstruction surgery. Scheduled for early October as of right now. Should be a blast.

It's actually an outpatient procedure.

Haha, I love the true dedication to the softball team when you postpone a surgery till the end of the season.

I scheduled shoulder surgery around the season. Played through the pain so I could rehab all last winter.
I wouldn't wish shoulder reconstruction on anybody.

I did the same for Basketball.
However, the consequence was that usually by halftime I had to take myself out after reinjuring my knee.
It was frustrating as I was obviously hobbled, but I was needed on the court.
Haven't posted in ages but was stopping by and the title caught my attention...
I was fucking around with some buddies last September and they fell into the side of my knee. Was fine, for about twenty seconds. Then it was "Hmm, that's odd. I can't walk. Better go lay down."
I still did PT and formations and stuff (ROTC at a military school), but it was a pain in the ass. My knee kept giving out. Thanksgiving I finally decided to bite the bullet and get the MRI, which showed the tear in my ACL.
I decided to have surgery in December over Christmas break, went perfectly, they did a graft of my own hamstring (Didn't like the idea of a dead person's junk in my leg). Took about a week to be able to walk without crutches, and about three months to be able to run again, but it was completely worth it. I don't think any amount of strength exercises would have given me the full use of my leg that I have now. I don't feel any residual pain, and don't even notice the surgery any more (Don't even set off the airport metal detectors with the two big titanium screws in my leg).
Anyway, just wanted to chip in with my experience. Good luck with the therapy/brace.

Feet, knees, and back. Most common injuries in the military, even ROTC. Glad you healed up.
Just wanted to say good luck again SP. Let me know if you need anything.
