Okay.... so I've been playing since 1993, have capped 5 characters and have come close to many others.
I still don't understand how some people effectively farm silver past cap. The only hunting method I have ever found is farming skins, which I did very well with a ranger I capped. However, what other methods are effective? By the simple fact that some people can hit a cap of 40 million silvers per month blows my mind! So please do spill the beans and help me understand how some people farms so much silvers each month.

I'd guess that doing a LOT of bounties plays a part in it.

It's GS4, silver farming is like Fight Club.
If by cap you mean "loot cap", I don't know for sure, but another avenue aside from skinning, might be the locksmith pool.
If by cap, you mean "level" cap, that's different. I've seen you post for decades now, so I'm thinking you might not be asking this one.

There really is no secret: play a lot. You ain’t gonna farm many silvers if you’re just playing 2 hours a day.

That's my point, services aside at least. For maths sake let's say a month is 30 days and the cap is 36m (I think it's 35m).
36m in 30d = 1.2m/day
Time Farming @ Hourly Rate (per Minute rate)
10h @ 120k/h (2k/min)
12h @ 100k/h (1.67k/min)
14h @ 85.7k/h ( 1.43k/min)
16h @ 75k/h ( 1.25k/min)

My bad, I didn't mean to imply you were wrong, because you're right, farming silvers is all about farming. About the only thing you can really do to boost your numbers other than playing more is to move around to different hunting grounds once the current hunting ground has been farmed to death and the loot turns to crap.

It's been a long day, I didn't mean to imply anything. No bad juju here. I just wasn't clear on Souls original question.
Everyone that's been around awhile knows that to consistently make that kind of silver almost surely requires massive scripting. I don't do this, but it's the only reasonable way I see. I mean everything else aside, after that much time day in and day out, your fingers & hands would start to feel it.

Lol I dunno if you know what kinda game this is, but it is not balanced for anyone playing casually, and by casually I mean <10 hrs/day, 7 days a week. GSIV is billed as text-based role playing adventure game with staff paid to dole out punishments to those who don't respect said roleplaying rules. This is interesting because it's hard to roleplay if it interferes with progression and progression can quite literally take decades to accomplish.
TLDR: Your math is correct but some combination of whales bank rolling DR events and simu being simu keeps things the way they are.
TLTLDR: Fucking weird that the moral high ground is not selling exp items but willing to charge tens of thousands for rift boots? We de-facto have got to be living in a fucking simulation.

Yeah those Lumnis brooches are dangerously close to just flat out selling experience. They haven't yet crossed the line of saying "Give us money and we'll directly increase your experience points" because from what I understand it just instantly absorbs field experience, which you still have to go out and hunt to fry. It's a very thin line and dammit if they haven't found a way to butt up right against the line they said they would never cross.
Give another 5 years and I suspect we'll see in the SimuStore: A giant tome of learning. Don't feel like venturing outside the city to learn things? Do your fingers ache from typing oh so many words in order to kill anything to gain some experience? Worry no more! Buy this giant tome of learning and instantly gain one million experience points! Cost: 10,000 SimuCoins.

An expensive way to keep you logging in every day that's account bound?
