Its been said that the clothes make the man, so don't think you're being effeminate by talking about your favorite clothing designers.

From the HBO series The Wire
McNuty: You know what they say about guys who know their clothes?

Bunk: Yeah, they're grown ups.

Ladies, too. Lets hear it.

For me? Hugo Boss makes some great shirts, suits and some decent jean cut pants. Burrberry when I can afford it. I find myself buying Kenith Cole shoes often, but I like Steve Madden. Levi's for jeans and some of their shirts are cool. I have to admit to buying some over-priced italian designer jeans also. Diesel. Their shirts are cut to make you top heavy too.

I don't know shit about fashion, and I don't care about fashion. I like Kikwear pants, Levi's, and t-shirts. Sometimes hooded sweatshirts. You'd be hard pressed to find me in anything else.

I like Kikwear too, as popularized by the shekshi Hardy Boys, heh. And most of the time I'm in jeans and a t-shirt. My boyfriend, when we were in the same Japanese class before we started dating, came up to me and said, "Wow you look frumpy." I always am...

But that doesn't mean I can't appreciate good, well-designed clothing! I just don't wear it 'cause most of it doesn't look good on me (I'm too short and I have big hips) and it's all so expensive... but, hm...

I love House of Spy, an up-and-coming designer from Canada who's juuuuuuust making their way into the US. That's my favorite. I love Vera Wang too. If I could afford to get married in one of her gowns, I would. In red. Yesh.

Who else? Um... really, I shop in the little boys' departments of stores, so I have a hard time experiencing labels. That's it.

I do a lot of Old Navy. They have nice stuff, at prices I can afford on my non-existent budget.

Well hey when I'm not at work I'm wearing my oversized Levi's, pub t-shirts and Airwalks. Got some Anime T-shits also.

In high school I loved Will E. Smith clothes. Too bad he died from AIDs. sigh

I like skirts on chicks. Anne Klein has some great stuff. And any woman who wears Bebé, rowr...

The most important thing when buying clothes are the fit. Expensive clothes (good expensive clothes) use high quality fabrics that hang well.

Good call with Boss, Backlash. They make great stuff, but it just doesn't fit me that well. So, even though I like their stuff, I don't buy it.

Many times one can people wearing shit that just looks terrible, but they are so proud to have an expensive label plastered across their chest. It's rather sad.

Fit and fabric quality are the most important.
This is why that Old Navy T shirt looks really great in the store, and then looks like complete shit after you wash it once and put it back on. It's just cheap shit.

In the states, I shop at Nordstroms. They have free tailoring. But, another big mistake to buy stuff, and then think a tailor will fix it. They can only do minor things, not work miracles.

Versace fits me well, and so does Banana Republic. I had my suits hand made in Thailand. BC Ethic (sold at Nordstroms) makes nice pants. I also like DSL 55 and DKNY.

I never understood why having an attention to detail of how you look was associated with "playing on the other team".

Knowing how to dress is important, and makes a statement that you care about yourself. People treat you differently if you dress nicely.

Edited to fix a typo

I shop Nordstroms too. Thats where I get my Diesel and Kenith Kole shoes. Got a great tan suede long jacket there too.

I've always hated Banana Republic... you know they started out as a safai clothing store? But lately, I've found some awesome trousers there.

Its true about the cut of the clothes. Some things that look great just don't fit the body well.

And I had a recent conversation with a woman about men's and women's clothes. She said, no matter what a man looks like, if his clothes fit him well, he looks good. Women, on the other hand have to show off their bodies.

Around the house, I like Levis 509's and tee-shirts (silk shirt if I am going out). I also like Bill Blass, Anne Klein, and Evan Picone.

I'm an Old Navy girl at best and that's the only name brand I'll wear. I think designer clothing is just hype and they don't deserve me advertising their wares AND pay them for it. They can pay me to wear their clothes. Until then I'll wear the stuff from Burlington's Coat Factory. :D

Levi's Jeans
Levi's, FOTL or any heavy thread count T-shirts
Lee Denim shirts (Heavier denim than Levis)

I follow what my dad and grandpa passed down about shirts.

If it has a collar, it has to be button down and long sleeved. I can't stand polos.

I have a few henleys... I usually don't look at the brand... I feel how heavy they are. I hate thin clothing.
I'm a farm boy, so I was wearing Carhartts before they were fashionable.

Shoes... Doc Marten, Nike, Adidas

Unmentionables... Boxer briefs... Whatever is comfy.

I HATE Polo shirts. Probably because I don't look good in them.

Old Navy and American Eagle all the way. That expensive crap doesn't appeal to me, nor cn I afford it on a regular basis. Preppy is so not my style. Keep your Polo-style shirts with your khaki slacks and dress shoes in Bevery Hills or wtf ever. I'll take my faded jeans and khaki shorts anyday. Kthx.

By the way, I am teh hotz0r.

Hey, I use it at parties. I load it with soap and beat people with it.

I'm not much of a purse gal, unless I'm trying to impress someone with how much I care. But the only stuff I carry would be car keys, driver's license, cigarettes, and money, if I have money.

I like Bebe, don't beat me DCSL. Arden B. is nice, A&F, then there's GAP, Old Navy, BR - all the same company, just different prices, Polo is OK at times, Steve Madden shoes rocks, AX, I love LV bags, only when I can afford them. The list can go on and on...

Soulpieced wears Nautica, Tommy, Polo, and some very rare mixed in Abercrombie (yes I sold out). For shoes, I really can't wear heavy dress shoes because I have a foot problem called metatarsalgia. But athletic shoes I will wear Nike or Adidas. Also have a pair of Birkenstock's I've had for 2 years.

Favorite clothing designers would have to be DKNY and Liz Claiborne. I do like the stuff in Express as well as Gap..and I forgot to mention Guess clothing....but I'll dip into Old Navy cause they have some pretty cute things. I also like Tommy Hilfiger a lot. (I wore nothing but Tommy when I was a punk teenager) For shoes, I like Steve Madden, Guess, Aldo and 9 West. But if I see something I think is cute..no matter what it is...I'll buy it (like these really cute sneakers I saw in an avon catalog..heh)

About shoes... if they hurt they probably look good. Its stupid but true. And I hate it. As soon as I am home from work the Coles come off and its into my Rider sandals. Kinda like Mr. Rogers. (may he rest in peace)

I am a shop-aholic and I look damn good :) Unfortunatly most of my dress clothes don't fit anymore since I discovered weights, when I left for the Marines I was in a 40 jacket, now I'm in a 48. I like the fit and feel of Givenchy, Pavone, Donna Karen. Hugo Boss doesn't cut the armholes very full so those suits tend to pinch behind my arms looks like it's too small regardless of the size of coat I bought one and had the arms removed and holes deepend and sewn back on now it fits like a dream. For shoes Cole Haan, Kennith Cole, Bacco Bucchi. I work for a men's clothing store so I get a good discount and I use it often.

My day to day attire is dress shoes, slacks (wool of course), dress shirt, tie, braces (they are like suspenders but they button into the slacks suspenders look like ass and destroy the fabric, braces are pimp), some days a sport coat or suit jacket but I tend to take that off and go in shirt and tie soon as I can.

I don't own a white dress shirt, I'm all about color. I've got everything from deep blue to pink and every color inbetween and I can make anything look good.

Unfortunately, due to budget, I shop a lot of Old Navy.. but when I want to treat myself, its Banana & AX all the way, and Aldo for shoes! ;)

Karen Kane, when I can afford it, Liz Claiborne because he clothes are good quality and usually in very classic styles.

Dooney Burke bags and Lacoste t-shirts, too, when I can afford those. I have a sweet Coach watch my husband got me for my birthday this year.

The best thing I've found to do is buy a few nice designer pieces and supplement it with a LOT of simple stuff from GAP. GAP outlets are awesome, too.

Steve Madden, Kenneth Cole, Nine West and Chinese Laundry shoes. Converse, too.

I wear... clothes? Heh. I'll just walk around in the mall and buy whatever I like that fits me. Lots of comfy pants (I hate jeans and shorts), and skirts.
As for shirts, I have a real problem with showing my back/shoulders, so I tend to only wear teeshirts. Nothing with straps.

I have a pair of plain black flipflops that I wear with everything. If I'm not wearing those I'm wearing an old pair of black vans that I have, and if not those then my docs. Problem with my docs is that they're 20 eyelet and take forever to lace, so I only wear them if I know I'm going someplace where I won't be tempted to take them off. :/

Edited to add:
Another clothing staple of mine is my high school fencing sweatshirt. It's black and zips up the front and is uber-comfy.

I shop at the discount chains. I don't care about designers, and if anyone nominates me for "What Not To Wear" on TLC I'll kill them although I'd be the first to admit I'd deserve it. My kids have impressed on me that how I look is important to them when we go out together, so I do make an effort, sometimes, but I still prefer the men's department, and have a thing for ugly men's shirts.
