well, not sure where most of you people live, but it's getting damn close to the right kinda weather for canoeing or kayaking.. I know I'm looking forward to it.
Myself, I try to get in a few short trips a year in, right. I am not talking about white water kayaking, just the kind where you can get in a boat, and spend a good day/half day in the river to yourself or with friends.
I have a place close to where I live where friends and I rent canoes pretty cheaply, and they drop us off up the river. It makes for a great day (especially with a few beers and a picnic)!
anyone else out there do this?
I don't know if I'd go as far as trying white water kayaking but I have been white water rafting, kayaking, and spent many a summer canoeing almost daily. My friend has a cabin up in Manitowish Waters, WI that I go to about every other summer. We'll usually take a canoe trip and camp out at a site off of one of the many connecting lakes up in the northern region. Always good times.
I'd love to go kayaking. Do they make them for fat guys?

Because I'm lazy, I spend my summers in a boat on the chain of lakes here in northern Wisconsin. I don't do the whole paddling thing and canoes get tippy as I get tipsy.
Although, a good float down the river is always fun in a tube.

I've spent several summers canoeing down the rivers here where I live. We did that twice a year with my church group as a teen, plus my family did that as well. And now my young ones go canoeing with our family and friends. It's a lot of fun.

Kayaking is great, same with canoeing; when I was in Idaho I canoed down a river that had some rapid and such, with 2 people in the canoe, 1 paddle in the canoe and 1 life jacket...naturally, I had the paddle and gave the lady the life jacket, and then proceeded to almost sink the canoe in a sinkhole and had to get dangerously pulled out by a motorboat because I was holding onto a tree for 10 minutes getting blasted with water; if I let go we were going straight into a rockface and going down down down.
I love canoeing and kayaking.

Mike and I go every year for our anniversary. We stay overnight at a hotel and have a nice dinner out, then get up early the next morning and rent a canoe.
It's always fun, and if we go on a weekday we generally have the whole river to ourselves. Great for checking out the local fauna and for some real 'alone time'. We have the best conversations while paddling a canoe.

Yeah, kayaking is awesome as hell. In the summer, I kayak all the time to Anacapa Island and sometimes take a boat trip to the other ones to explore the caves inside. Real fun.

My family owns a house on a lake in Bremen, Maine, and we usually go up there once or twice a summer, and rent it out the rest of the time. We have two kayaks, a canoe, and a motor boat (no jet-skis yet, but I'm trying to convince my parents to get one, heh) and I looove taking a kayak out and "disappearing" for several hours. The scenery is really pretty and sometimes if I bring a friend we'll go fishing or pack a lunch to eat on one of the little islands there. Sometimes my dog is crazy and jumps in the kayak and comes along too, heh. I hate canoeing though, they tip too easily.
I've never done anything crazy like whitewater kayaking though, I hate whitewater rafting enough as it is. I had to put on a wetsuit when we went in Austria and it was so gross, bleh.
