hey all! im trying to figure out what kind of armor i should train for. right now i use brig and im getting along fine so long as i dont get caught in offensive then its usually bye bye rogue. Right now im sword and board with a 6x medium shield. should i convert it to a buckler? will that help me dodge more? i use a faenor axe as my weapon so im wondering if i drop some combat manuevers to up my armor training how bad would my as be affected? heres my stats:

Get into Metal Breastplate, which is 80 ranks. You won't regret it.

Yup MBP is godly. Now someone find me an eahnor MBP of some kind for my rogue damnit.

Yes, MBP.

As for your shield concern, test it out. Grab a 0x buckler and a 0x medium and see how your DS looks. It won't make a ton of difference either way, but I'll bet the buckler works better given you have way more dodge than shield.

So if you 1x shield and 2x dodge a small shield is the way to go?

StrayRogue

Yes.

Looks like daddy is gonna go find a new shield then.

Shield Defense Strength (DS) bonus:
(Shield Ranks + (STR bonus/4) + (DEX Bonus/4))/(1.5) = Base Value

Base Value * Stance Modifier * (100% + Shield Size Modifier) = DS bonus

Shield Size Modifier Table:

Small -15%
Medium 0%
Large 15%
Tower/Wall 30%

Stance Modifier: 50% + Stance/2.

Shield Penalty: Using a shield hinders attempts to Dodge. The penalty is 20% for a small shield, 30% for a medium shield, 40% for a large shield, and 50% for a tower shield.

StrayRogue

My advice is use a medium shield.

Copy and pasting doesn't take a degree in physics.

My rogue is in MBP, 76 ranks of armor at lvl 69 so I'll be free of training based hindrance eventually.

Soon as I finish this 7x rolaren fal I'm going to start work on a set of 7x rolaren mbp.

There was a set of 7x vhcp mbp for about 50m running around earlier, if I had the coin it would be mine.

The price has inflated to 60 mil :(

Not my thread, but I'll pose a question, since I am armor stupid. Which is better. FGB or Imflass breastplate?

StrayRogue

Breastplate.

Gan
04-11-2005, 04:35 PM
Breastplate unless you cast alot of magic... then its FGB.

I'm with the MBP over Brig.

Latrinsorm

I don't get why anyone would want to spend the coin for crit padding on plate-class armor, given that with only 60% redux, it'd take a 250 endroll from a maul before the padding became useful at all.

Now damage padding I understand.

MBP way over FGB.

Ok, so I don't hurt myself, and all of you continue to be able to see the screen, tell me Stay...,

100's in Con Str Agl Dex

2X dodge
3X shield

Should I go with the WALL shields? And, If I do, do I maintain some portion of my dodge?

I have one of those shields that changes from buckler-medium-large size if you want to test it out.

I've been told that armor doesn't give uncovered body parts the protection of the next armor class down. Like MBP doesn't give chain to the limbs and head anymore. Is this true or not?

Latrinsorm
04-12-2005, 11:46 PM
False.

I have heard it said that it is true for some maneuvers.

StrayRogue
04-13-2005, 07:38 AM
That is correct Latrin. It is called the Partial Armor Bug.

Gan
04-13-2005, 09:10 AM
There's also a bug that will allow you to cast almost unhindered at a table. My rogue rarely experiences hindrance when casting lore and such while wearing mbp at the tables.

AnticorRifling
04-13-2005, 09:45 AM
That's not a bug. Armor hinderance for casting doesn't happen when you're in a sanct locale.
