Florida. If you have to visit, try to appear non-threatening.

Boy am I glad I don't live there anymore. Hell people would pull out a gun just for flipping people off. Floridians have very low to nil patience and will run amock killing each other.

I'm all for gun control, but this ain't it.

The south sucks. The east coast and the west coast is the only place where you can find civilization.

The current law puts the onus of any violent struggle more on the victim and allows the attacker far too much protection under the law. From my understanding, this will close a loophole that many lawyers were using to get their thug clients off as the victims that chose fight over flight could be counter-sued.

It may close a loophole but open some others. In comes to play, your word against another persons. I wonder why they couldn't just change/amend the current law, making it harder for the perpetrator to be protected when they initiate an attack...

The only thing this law does is it does not force the victim to try and flee first and if that avenue is unavailable, THEN you can use lethal force to protect yourself.

If I'm understanding this correctly, this law would allow me to shoot somebody just because I 'feel threatened'.

Hey, that bitch just gave me the finger! Kapow! But officer, I felt threatened, she's half my age, wearing that leather jacket, made an obscene gesture at me... I was in fear for my life!

I didn't like the way he was glancing my way and mumbling to himself. People like that can suddenly go crazy and start shooting, you know.

Hey, last time I saw that guy he said he was going to kick my ass. I turned the corner and there he was and I felt threatened...

This law strikes me as way too open to interpretation. I wonder what the body count will get up to before the Florida lawmakers decide it wasn't the best idea they've ever had.

So, what does the current law allow? Also, is this law for regular, everday citizens or for victims of specific crimes? It just seems a bit odd and I've never heard of a law of this kind being implemented elsewhere. I may be very wrong on this.

I'm sorry officer, the man who parked in my reserved car spot looked really threatening and I just had to BLOW HIS HEAD OFF.

I'm moving to Florida.

04-07-2005, 03:21 PM
Yea, I'm pretty sure things will be handled in a reason manner. I.e. The way self defense works in most places that don' t have a queer "must flee" law. Meaning a reasonable person must have had a reasonable reason to feel threatened.

Not to hard to do when one is dead.

I believe this bill allows you to defend yourself in public. If you are attacked in public you can now legally fight back. Before you were legally obligated to try and flee.

The bill says that person has ``the right to stand his or her ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he or she reasonably believes it is necessary to do so, to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another.''

The AP story is titled House Passes Public Self Defense Legislation:

Wow. That's crazy. Someone attacks me and I'm not legally obligated to fight back. Now, I am legally obligated to not only fight back, but use deadly force if I feel like shattering some face. I get it now. They've attempted to fix a formerly fucked up law.

You aren't legally obligated to try and fight back now but you have that option while before you had to try and flee first.

Bad choice of words. Not that you're legally obligated to fight back, it is now a *legal option* as is deadly force. My bad. The rest stands.

Now someones life won't get fucked up because they didn't know how to react in a life threatening situation and went to defend themselves before running.

This is hardly going to bring Florida back to a "Wild west mentality." Whoever wrote that wasn't thinking.

I'd love permission to cap someone before allowing them to try to catch me first.

You think that because you are retarded.

The same goes to everyone who said anything even close to this.
