Damnit....I bought my wife an Ipod finally in Feb when I couldn't stand the constant harassment. She loves it.

I didn't want one because I thought it was too limited. I said, "if I buy one of these handheld jobbies...I want it to play nice graphics games, capable of wireless internet, play MP3s and DVDs." And I was prepared to wait about 5 years or so...

God damn PSP does all that. AND it is $50 cheaper than a 20GB Ipod (although given the proprietary UMD format requirement, it will still be expensive to get new software for).

Anyone have one yet? Should I wait it out until UMDs become as ubiquitious as DVDs (with the ability to write to them)?

I've read a lot of hacks are availiable currently, but I imagine SONY will eventually box a browser into the system as well as much of the other functionality.

Arrgggghhhh...And I just wrote a check for twelve grand for my new house...but I hate being bored on long flights when I'm stuck in the cattle pen with no business class personal video systems. This would rock for such situations.

I guess I should wait at least until Christmas...but damn...what a nice piece of hardware...SONY knows what they are doing.

I sort of want one, but the proprietary UMDs make me not want one so much.

Talked to a friend of mine with a PSP yesterday... she loves it.

Battery, fragility, battery, the length of the screen, battery, the fact that it's their "first" portative console, battery the extra gear you "need" in order to fully enjoy it, battery and finaly the battery.

Did I mentionned the battery?

Most of their games sound good, though.

Sounds to me that if you wait about a year or so, a better version will come out.

I'm going to hold off for now.

As X so eloquently put it, I have heard that the battery life is atrocious. Though I've always been one to plug handhelds into adapters for power anyway.

4-6 hours isn't good enough?

If you open it and leave it without touching it.

A movie played takes "2" batteries to play fully:bye:

Music, games, more or less, dunno really but hey, remember that sony's playstation are the masters of "please loading time"

OHOHOHOOH

p.s. For me a portative console must be good when I need them the most: OUTSIDE of my house.

My friend's got one. He said he can get 4-6 hours out of the batteries, and I'm pretty sure he's not just letting it sit there.

Takes five hours to recharge the battery. My BIL's didn't seem to last 4-6 hours either. But in general, YMMV.

I'm waiting for the next version of it (or fix). The Japenese version had major problems and had to release a 1.5 version.

I was looking at getting the N-gage when it first came out. Glad I held off, it's now obsolete now that the N-gage QD has replaced it.

one friend bought one of the first released PSP's and has since had to send it back to sony a grand total of 5 times.

Another friend has one, and it seems to be just fine.

I think it's a pretty nifty multimedia player, and if the dead pixel issue becomes more then a nuisance, then I personally wouldn't buy it.

I would be willing to accept 5 - 10 dead pixels spread apart, as it's only really a problem when viewing solid color backgrounds.
