By 4 I mean, me, wife, and 2 kids. We are adopting them, hence the quick gestation. The last few days have been pretty crazy, as we just found out on Friday. We will see them for the first time today, and then pick them up Tuesday. They are 7 months old.

I'm alternating between excitement and a desire to throw up. I'm told it is like this for all expectant parents.

2 kids is okay, you can still play man to man defense. Anything more than that, and it becomes zone defense.

Grats man. As with anything, the things that require the most responsibility and effort are also the most rewarding. Adapt well, be the best father you can, and enjoy yourself.

Update: boys are doing great, but dad is nearly dead from exhaustion. With covid being around, it's almost impossible to find a nanny. This sucks. Nannying pays more than teaching right now. I'm fortunate to work for a supper supportive company that gave me a nice chunk of parental leave, but it's gone now.

The boys are awesome. They're growing, and learning, and all that good stuff, and bonding with their mom and dad. It's pretty fantastic, even if it is tiring.

Some statistics:

We change approximately 100 diapers per week.
They pee and poop a lot.
Feed them 7 bottles per day each, plus solid food 3x a day.
In one month, we've fattened them up from the 11th percentile to the 61st!
We get about 5-6 hours of sleep per day. They get 11. Dad covers the night shift, from 10pm-3am, then mom covers 3-8am.

We're looking to buy a bigger house.

Congrats and sympathies both. My wife is 37 weeks pregnant right now, so we'll be there with you soon, though we'll only have the one.

Update:

New house found and purchase agreement signed. We close May 14th.
Nanny found, though she's been sick most of this week. Otherwise she's doing a good job.
The boys are now hard core crawlers, and one of them is now obsessed with pulling himself up to standing.
First word from both boys: dada. I'm not lying when I say it's awesome when their faces light up when I enter the room.
All major hurdles around the adoption have been cleared. We are down to about 4-5 months of paperwork and review by the state before it should be final.
Bad news: I ended up with an infected finger that spread up my arm to the elbow overnight. Was in the hospital for 2 days.
Good news: I still have the arm (and the finger), and I'm home! Infection stopped but not 100% gone just yet.
Also good news: wife managed to survive without me, with the help of our rock solid network of friends and family.

Peace all

Jeez, man, don’t make it sound easy or anything. ;-) I’m glad to hear everyone is doing well, even if absolutely exhausted (and moving on top of twins!). Glad you found a nanny to help.

Our son is two months now and has decided as of this week that he will only go to sleep and stay asleep if he’s being held. So, yeah, we’re working on that.

Sleep training is some kind of arcane art. Our boys were 7 months when we got them, and sleep has been a challenge. After 4.5 months, we're down to 1-2 wake ups per night, between the 2 of them. One is a champ, who mostly sleeps through the night. The other one not so much.

Update: adoption is final tomorrow. The boys are now 15 months old and are happy and healthy. We've been in our new house for 2 months and the old house is for sale. It has been pretty fantastic.

Great to hear that things are going so well! And congrats on the new house, too. Hopefully the old one sells quickly and easily.

I'm an adopted twin and I wanted to say I think what you've done is incredibly wonderful. Very wholesome thing to do and you changed some lives for the better I have no doubt!
