I've got just a small handful of ascension points from hitting various milestones and debating where to put them. A few clarifying questions:

Can ascension points exceed the limits of enhancives? Or are they considered part of the same "pool"?
Do ascenion points in skills give you actual ranks? Would putting a point in Combat Maneuvers give me a point to invest in cmans?
Is there any kind of migration system, a la fixskills for ascension points, where I can change my mind and adjust later?
Any particular recommendations for a ~70 train 2x ambush archer ranger?

Right now you are better off putting them into LOG.

When they release next tier stuff they will allow players to reset so going for extra XP gain is the best path right now for further character improvement.

There's a really good writeup on the GS Wiki that directly contradicts that. (https://gswiki.play.net/Leafiara_(prime)/Ascension_Considerations)

Are you near any thresholds that these few points would put you over?

MoC for mstrike fire and/or Force on Force?
Near a lore limit that it would push over?

If you're looking for minimum analysis for maximum benefit, going with 4 ascension points into Ranged is almost a phantom enchant. Strength to add a little more encumberance, etc.

Leafiara is wrong.

He/she is calculating from a breakeven, which you don't need to do when there is a reset. The main point is to accumulate as many ATPs as possible before they set it. Putting your points in LOG allows for the quickest accumulation of total XP for this before they no longer do resets and force people to pay $ for them.

That's a fair point

A fixskill resets it and is given annually for free.

It can also be obtained from bounty points. When the more specific and cheaper ASC only potion gets released I'm sure it will also be added to bounty point redemption as CMAN/ ARMOR/SHIELD were done. The store will also be an option as it is for the four other types.

As far as logic, either way but I think you'd get more use not doing that and spending on more helpful things during the wait time.

You will get miniscule amounts of additional experience and maybe earn a bonus 1 or 2 ascension point depending how much you play and when the next phase is released but it seems pretty boring.

Same debate as stats for growth/tps basically.

I doubt they will put it into the bounty point system. They don't like it because they can't monetize off of it.

But they did all the other ones, and monetized them as well.

There can be multiple paths to earn (or buy one). There is still always the annual fixskill or fixskill bounty potions as well. I don't see why people need to change things up so much.

Can use the test server to play.

I meant they wouldn't put it as an option to spend points on. You can guarantee it will be in the SC store.

Wait, do people actually buy that stuff via simucoin?

Appreciate the input. For more specific context, I've got 5 ascension points I'm mulling over.

The logic argument is a fair one, but between the login experience boosts and Lumnis I think I'm grinding XP pretty well.

I was tempted to take 5 points in MOC, but mfire is kind of a gimmick and looking more into it, I'd need 10 points to unlock a FoF reduction.

Defensively, agility is interesting as I typically die to combat maneuvers or SMRv2.

Offensively, my AS already feels quite high with 2x ambush. But if the best defense is a good offense, another 5 points in ranged weapons skill could never hurt.

Decisions, decisions...

If you're not really itching to drop the points into anything right now, maybe just sit on them. Eventually they'll be releasing the Tier 2 and Tier 3 ascension skill levels. Once they release those, maybe you'll find something more interesting to work you way towards if any of the Common skills are prerequisites.

Really, the way I see it right now, the ATPs you can earn and use on Common skills are kind of something that maybe mutant builds would benefit the most from right now. Like my reduxmage - the extra PF ranks he can put ATPs into and Armor Use ranks and OHE ranks, these things can really benefit him. An extra 5 AS might not seem like much for a semi or square, but every little bit helps with a warmage since they can only 1x in a weapon skill.

Adding just a couple of points to your AGI you won't see any noticeable difference. SMRv2 is heavily based on level.

I think the easy answer is that if you have 5 ascension points to spend, put them into ranged and enjoy the extra 5 AS.

I'm clearly overthinking this.

Ranged it is!
