View Full Version : Crappy thieves!

DCSL

Post here about your crappy thief experiences. I know I get them frequently enough to laugh.

So here I am, hunting with a level 5 ranger with six ranks in perception.

Khazmodain just arrived.
>
Khazmodain just went northeast.
>
Khazmodain just arrived.
>at orc
You swing a black ora broadsword at a lesser orc!
AS: +87 vs DS: +29 with AvD: +36 + d100 roll: +85 = +179
... and hit for 66 points of damage!
Slash to head destroys the lesser orc's right eye!
Doesn't do its brain any good either.
A lesser orc screams one last time and dies.
Roundtime: 5 sec.
>
You notice Khazmodain reach into your pockets and remove nothing.
You turn quickly and grab Khazmodain's wrist, but he had nothing in his hand.
>
Khazmodain just went northeast.

Rueban just arrived.
>
A lesser orc swings a cudgel at you!
AS: +108 vs DS: +133 with AvD: +18 + d100 roll: +47 = +40
A clean miss.
>
You notice Rueban reach into your pockets and remove nothing.
You turn quickly and grab Rueban's wrist, but he had nothing in his hand.
>look rue
Rueban just went north.
>
I could not find what you were referring to.

I've never seen these two characters in my life, but I find it interesting that after Khazmodain logged out minutes after the first incident, Rueban came in. Hmmmmm. Sounds like someone's got a thing for crappy rogues.

sounds to me like someone's either targeting you specifically or targeting that area specifically. And yes, that example of thievery is truly pathetic.

The name Khazmodain sounds familiar, I"ll have to check my landing idiot list to see if he's on it.

Those aren't thieves.. those are retarded hacks. You know you've been visited by a real thief when you go to deposit your coins in the bank and realize you have none... but have no idea where they went.

By calling either of them a thief is an insult. Don't do it again.

He's done the same thing to a guy I had hunting rats once. He's trying to provoke you to attack him because killing level 3 warriors makes his pp grow.

Quick search of my logs for the string "Wezas just bit the dust!":

You nimbly pick through Zvardin's things and come across something that feels valuable. You close your fingers around it, but something goes terribly wrong!
A thread of sickly green magic issues forth from the item in your hand and coils about your body. It whirls malevolently around you for a moment and then disappears within your body.
You cringe and feel extremely ill.
You reach into Zvardin's deep blue silk pack and pull out a violet sapphire.

Yeah, most of my stealing was April 2003 till when GS4 started.

GS4 killed my fun for stealing. Stealing a bunch of wands from someone is fun, but botching on every other person totally sucks.

GS3 rocked for stealing, especially with the nice gems people had lying around.

You reach into Curtreena's golden sack and pull out a golden lute-painted topaz.

This isn't exactly a bad thief expiriance, but a bad thieving expiriance...

Just happened yesterday.

[Land Tower East, Office]
The ground floor of this guard tower appears to be some kind of office. A single guard sits behind one of the desks reviewing some paperwork. A small wood stove in the corner provides heat to the room. You also see the Kitian disk, a large wastebasket and some wooden steps.
Also here: Gallahan, Kitian, Glavenfyre who is kneeling, Kystor who is sitting, Darkksilk who is sitting
Obvious exits: out

Gallahan deeply asks, "Anyone open?"

>steal galla gem pouch
You reach into Gallahan's pockets and pull out 161 silvers.

Gallahan peers quizzically at you.

Gallahan deeply says, "My money please."

You ponder.

Gallahan nods to you.

You have 25745 coins with you. (That's why I got caught)

Gallahan deeply says, "Might be better if ya dont steal from me."

Gallahan nods to you.

You say, "Might be better if you stop talking right now."

Gallahan deeply says, "My 161 now."

You say, "Heh, I don't think so."

Siafu just arrived.

Siafu chants a reverent litany and clasps his hands while tightly focusing his thoughts...
Siafu gestures at you.
CS: +478 - TD: +238 + CvA: +2 + d100: +17 == +259
Warding failed!
Siafu's face shimmers and vanishes, and, in its place, you see the image of a grim man clad in a full suit of black chainmail. His cold, somber eyes stare straight past you, and the faint halo of white radiance surrounding him only seems to deepen the shadows of his forbidding visage. The image sears itself into your eyes before everything dissolves into blackness.
You are dazed! Overwhelmed by a greater spiritual power, you fall to your knees in divine reverence!

Siafu says, "I do."

Siafu nods to you.

You struggle valiantly against the effects of the stun as you attempt to stand up.

You stand back up.

Roundtime: 5 sec.

Siafu utters a light chant and raises his hands, beckoning the lesser spirits to his aid...
Siafu gestures at you.
Strands of webbing shoot forth towards you.
CS: +403 - TD: +238 + CvA: +2 + d100: +46 == +213
Warding failed!
You are firmly webbed in place.

Then Siafu sancted, and ran back with Gallahan to a table.

Way to Multi-Account. Real subtle.

If a lvl 85 sorc is running around the hunting grounds of lvl 10 and under then you can bet he's not spelled to the hilt... his stance might be defensive and he might or might not have his staff/weapon out. Add to that the pushdown to DS from ambushing combined with a blue crystal, wizards strength, heroism, COL signs including madness and you have one dead sorcerer.

Ganalon killed a lvl 130+ wizard (GS3) outside of Vaalor by doing just that when he was in his 40's. Needless to say I was not the only one suprised when the wizard's head disappeared in a red spray. Suprise and preparedness can tip the tide in your favor.

Edit: to add there's a great section in The Art of War about how not to underestimate your enemy and how to capitalize on it if your enemy underestimates you...

Solid strike caves XXX's skull in, resulting in instant death!

The air calms down around XXX.
The bright luminescence fades from around XXX.
The deep blue glow leaves XXX.
The brilliant luminescence fades from around XXX.
A shadow seems to detach itself from XXX's body, swiftly dissipating into the air.
XXX appears to lose some internal strength.
The powerful look leaves XXX.
The very powerful look leaves XXX.
The white light leaves XXX.
The light blue glow leaves XXX.
The silvery luminescence fades from around XXX.
XXX becomes unbalanced for a second, then recovers.
The guiding force leaves you.

A nearby townsman hurries off screaming, "Grandsome has committed murder!"

Heh , I remember seeing a rogue wetting his pants becouse an invis wizard / sorcerer was threatening to murder him.
All the caster had to do was wait till the Rogue seemed to think he was safe, then he'd prep a spell and watch him panic again.

That went on for ages until the rogue came out and dispelled invis. Then the RT incurred , meant his ass.

It could go on forever, honestly.
Rangers can fuck them both. :sniffle:
