Which town do you feel is the best/most well designed town in Gemstone IV. There is no right or wrong answer but please post why you chose the way you did.

Please consider:

1. population (are you one of those people who needs to have others around?)
2. features (do you require the presence of CoL or Voln in your town?)
3. hunting
4. layout and ease of movement.
5. atmosphere -- do you need history in a town or a certain atmosphere?

I chose River's Rest because:

1. There is a universal movement script for the town.
2. It's close enough to Solhaven that I can do CoL then catch a boat to RR.
3. Hunting's pretty decent up to level 40.
4. It's basically empty around 2 am EST.
5. I like the deed system.

Teras.

I love the folks , I love the descriptions . . I loved being beaten to shit by the bouncer in the local dwarven inn.

I just love it there.
But I can't hunt there , so I live in Icemule.

Solhaven is too big. Icemule is too partitioned. Ta'Illistim is too spread out. Ta'Vaalor I haven't spent much time in. Zul Logoth has 0 people. River's Rest is way too far away from everything. Teras is aight. Pinefar, Sylvarraend, and Cysaegir I've yet to spend any large amounts of time in.

The winner, of course, is the Landing. It would win much harder with an upper level hunting ground.

Solhaven

1) I love the people
2) I love the size of the town. You can always find a private place to sit
3) I love the temples especially Niima's. They are so well painted and I love the trees you can climb.
4) there are several nodes.
5) cool shops
6) easy deeds
7) easy to finish col

Solhaven is full of snobs and has shitty hunting areas. Bring back the Jants.
Icemule: awesome but sucks from 50-rift.
Nations is full of L33t freaks who like to show off and is probably the easiest hunting grounds ever employed in GS to date.
Landing: alright but a lot of idiots.
RR is just too remote.
Teras, I would say is my preferred. Shame I'm never there.

River's Rest, if it ever got a fucking higher level hunting ground

Loved the hunting on Teras.. but hated so many of the retards there.

I actually enjoy Icemule.

Never spent any time in RR, Sol, or EN.

Landing was good except the lack of hunting grounds 60+

I'd have to say it's a mix between Teras and the Landing. Despite the behaviors of a small minority of people in the Landing, it has always been my favorite town in terms of hunting, socialization, (if and when I feel the need) and assessibility. Teras comes in a close second as one of the more neutral towns I've hunted in and the older group makes it have less of a noob environment.

For my sorc right now, it's RR. I love the layout of the town, the people and the NPCs. For my rogue, it's Icemule. He would also like RR if it had a way to check favor. He's at step 22, and going back and forth to check is a pain in the ass, so I just don't do it. And now that you can't go beyond the step, I could be doing a lot of less than needed undead kicking.

For the town iteself, I still vote Teras, although my girls are in Illistim now, and I'm actually learning to like it.
I miss the sense of community on Teras, but since a good portion of my Isle friends are in Illistim now.. it's kind of a moot point.

Landing. If it had higher hunting it would rock my socks off.

Icemules pretty small, has the widest range of hunting ages, from what I understand, local enforcement towards idiots, and is still within decent scripting range of the landing and solhaven.

ta'vaalor is the easiest layout, basically a big diamond..
i guess there's something decent about most towns, except illistim, which is a nightmare, but still fun

The point about Nations' L33t freaks who  to show off is totally spot on.

Solhaven gets my automatic vote for its Lornon temples, privacy, community and history. :)

Everyone should vote LANDING cuz that is were I am.

I wish I could pick Zul Logoth, because I love the town, but the lack of variety in hunting stops me from doing that. So I'll have to choose Landing, just because it's the town I'm most familiar with.

The Landing for me, mostly because I am so familar with it and the hunting grounds. Now bring in upper level critters and I would gladly move back.

RR is the best "Community" Gemstone has.

Bah!

All these rough questions!

Lets see... (since I couldn't answer the poll, and I have NO one favorite)...

**Icemule Trace - My home town, used to have great RP'ing folks, some of which are migrating back.

**Pinefar - Wonderous area, with great hunting, swarms, a challenge, but can over-hunt, also good people are there, and many more come in from the rift.

**Solhaven - More great hunting areas, more great people, huge variety of critters, and yes, COL.

**Ta'Illistim - Great upper level hunting areas, some good people that tend to sit out of the way, easy to make coin.

**Ta'Vaalor - Finis' birth town

**Teras Isle - great people, great hunting areas ... lost something with greymist being opened... I like new hunting areas, I just think that was the wrong place.

**Wehnimer's Landing - Merchanting galore, used to net merchant all the time, now... well I own three shops, and of course, Voln.

**Zul Logoth - the critters, the quiet...

I guess, its a matter of my enjoying travel, enjoying friends, enjoying different critters ...

I like a lot of people, so Landing.

I miss when the game had around 2k people and it was overpopulated in the Landing.

I also liked Icemule around that time since it had a fair amount of people, and I liked hunting silverback orcs when they were rich.

Icemule is my favorite town. The downside is that the history is really sloppy, poorly thrown together, with little documentation.

The upsides are many, it's vacant enough so that you can hunt alone if you desire but occupied enough that you can almost always find a picker/empath, clerics can be hard to come across sometimes (used to be only Quildor and Stjarn really, now there are a grip of younger ones which help). One of my favorite parts about Icemule is the idiot enforcement, whenever some idiot shows up in town everyone just kills them until they leave (and they always do, usually very quickly) and if they come back they kill them again. In general the GMs seem to leave this alone, I've never seen someone who didn't REALLY deserve it get picked on unfairly.

The painting of Icemule proper isn't so great, but I really enjoy the look of Pinefar. Pinefar is very nice because it imparts a serene feeling, the hunting is challenging, more-so because if you die you mostly have to decay unless you know someone is in the area (since I hunt in the early AM there often isn't).

I do miss when there was no quiet place to rest in the Landing, it's too bad that there isn't a 10th of that population there these days, it felt so much more alive and real back when.

I like having people around so I pick the landing. The thought net, the movement, the multiple rest locations, etc. It's a hub for most of the towns except EN (inbetween sol and ice, boat to teras). Every town has a high number of people I can't stand the landing just has a higher popular than most towns so its understandable that more people = more idiots in my opinion.

I can't stand Icemule. I liked the hunting on teras but the people/town irked me. Same goes for Ta'Ill like stray said some of the easiest hunting in the game but the people/town annoy me. I always forget RR is a town I went there once for like 20 minutes.

Icemule is home... it's where I started the game, and it's full of great characters that just make the town.

One of my favorites, on the 'net last night:

Thedwar (faint)]: "Are ye uh hobbit end gittin tired of all a'thuh hostelries hereaboots caterin to ever'wun froms giantfolk to thuh buggins, meanin nuthin is thuh right size fer *ye*?"

[Thedwar (faint)]: "Consider yer search fer reasonably sized accomodations ta be over, cause Xanthipe's Hobbit Haven is now open end ready fer yer bizness."

[Thedwar (faint)]: "Miz Xanthipe has gone ta nae small expense end more'n little trouble ta make sure ever'thin is jest thuh right size for ye."

[Thedwar (faint)]: "She's made sure ye get thuh finest food end plenny of it. Why, ye'll fatten yerseff up in nae time at all! Ye'll be so full ye kin hardly walk."

[Thedwar (faint)]: "Thuh drink at Xanthipe's is jest whut thuh hobbit wanted - strong, oe'erflowing ale wid jest thuh right amount of kick innit ta make ye good end drowsy end ready fer bed."

[Thedwar (faint)]: "Only thuh finest goose down mattresses are used in her beds, end ye'll sleep like thuh very dead, they be so comfortable. Ye'll have thuh finest sleep of yer life, she guarantees it!"

[Thedwar (faint)]: "Trust me, wunce ye've tried Xanthipe's Hobbit Haven, ye'll never go back to them other inns. Uh'd wager tis thuh last hostelry ye'll ever need."

[Thedwar (faint)]: "Xanthipe's Hobbit Haven - thuh last werd in accommodations fer discriminatin hobbits. Nae reservation needed! Jest stop on by ennytime!"

[Thedwar (faint)]: "End don't fergit ta visit Xanthipe's Hobbit Emporium, where ye kin git trail rations, weapons, armor, vintage clothin end other access'ries fer mere silvers, once agin all jest yer size!"

[Thedwar (faint)]: "Xanthipe - she's been takin keer of hobbits fer years. Let her take care of ye - today!"

[Thedwar (faint)]: "(Xanthipe's serves only hobbits. Uh small deposit is required upon checkin in.)"
Jenn adores Thed.. he's always polite, charming, funny. (And always in character!) Not to mention, the first time she got drunk was in his company, and she got to tease a dwarf about getting drunk before she did.. and share the mutual bewilderment when neither could raise deaders because they were too drunk to cast.

For me, community beats out all other considerations.

Ta'Illistim would have to be Jenn's home away from home. I enjoy the community there, too.. except when I have a noob question (of which I still have plenty!). It's likely to go unanswered. Aside from learning a funky layout, I really like a lot of the features of Illy.. like the gardens on top of the Moonglae, and the grounds of Veythorne Manor. Jenn has tried repeatedly to drag the dragon fountain home to 'Mule with her.

The Landing has always been home for my charaters. I remember when the Landing was the place to be and it had CoL I miss those days. I've only been to Sol, RR, and Mule to pick something up or was born there. I've never been to EN and will go on a trip there when my ranger wakes up or my warrior gets older.
