We have been fighting alone for months.
And losing.
https://imgur.com/0L0qpxr.png
In early October we went two weeks with no day seeing a thousand deaths for the first time since July.
The week starting 10/19 saw one.
The week starting 10/26 saw two.
This week we've seen four so far and will see another today.
The Dakotas will be in the top five of deaths per capita within a month.
In the same time frame, Pennsylvania will become the eighth state to lose ten thousand souls.
In the same time frame, we will have the most coronavirus deaths of any country in the entire world.
Mostly because we already do, but it'll be by an even bigger margin.
.
President-elect Joe Biden is not a magician. He's not a doctor. He's not even that great a politician.
He won't try to do half as much as is needed, and he won't get even half of that done.
But for the first time in months, the very first time, we know.
Help is on the way.
Just hold on a little while longer.
Nothing in this world can stand against us once we all work together.

Don't worry, help is the way. Super Biden has come to save the day...
Biden is being handed a really shitty situation. Cases have exploded over the last few weeks. Deaths are up too. Remember this a few months from now. 125k new recorded cases yesterday. The mid west is seeing the worst right now and need major help.

We're on day 5 of 100k+ cases I believe.
Part of me wants to say- this is the price of incompetence. But the things Trump has done- it's so far beyond incompetence. It's borderline sociopathic. He's so abjectly incapable of basic human empathy, that it never dawned on him that the hundreds of thousands of American lives might be worth more than his re-election. AND he was clearly incapable of looking ahead more than one step, or he would have realized that actually saving lives would have been better for him.
They're going to study this in the history books for a long time. That American President who, upon learning the nation was facing a deadly pandemic that was incredibly contagious and incredibly dangerous, decided his best option was to try to politicize the whole situation and try to convince the country that there was no real pandemic. And then proceeded to systematically attack anyone who tried to take the pandemic seriously, convinced people that doing basic things to keep themselves safe was the wrong thing to do, and then decided to hold dozens of super spreader events all across the country- knowing full well that it would lead to hundreds- if not thousands- of deaths just so he could get people to vote for him.
And most disturbing still- it worked, and 70 million Americans thought he deserved another 4 years at the helm.
We're never going to be able to explain to future generations how any of this happened. We can't even really explain it now.

Funny how all the European countries that did the exact same things people said Trump should do and hope Biden will do -- universal mask requirement -- got slammed with even more massive case increases in late summer than the USA did, and had to go on strict lockdowns. There is jack shit we can do until the vaccine comes, and Biden will make exactly jack shit of a difference. Until he takes all the credit for the vaccines that will come about as a result of Trump's Warp Speed initiative.

Are you sure about that? Thailand, Vietnam, and pretty much all of SEA and EA have this virus totally under control. Do they have a secret vaccine?!
the majority of people in Europe weren't adhering to the guidelines set actually. Try again.

Vermont has no large crowds, the single largest issue this nation has is people refuse to social distance and wear masks. In Vermont it is a lot easier to avoid a crowd since they mostly don't exist.

Gee Thailand, Vietnam, enforced a nationwide mask mandate and social distancing and they lost less than 50 people to this virus, compared to 240k+ in the states. You act like those deaths don’t matter, those people don’t matter.
Not sure exactly what YOUR problem is, if a mask can save lives, why are you so against it? It’s not like a mask does anything harmful to you, it’s benefits far outweigh any true negatives you can think of. Yet for some reason you are against it. Even if wearing a mask can save 10 people’s lives, why wouldn’t you do it? Is your choice to wear one or not worth those lives?

Normally I would agree with this as the otherside would be deaths resulting from suicide, drug use, and violence from unemployment and social unrest.
But people need to realize that viruses mutate, that’s actually what happened with the Spanish Flu. The more it infects human beings the more it acclimates itself to the host through mutation better being able to spread and possibly being even more deadly.

Which is why it should have been allowed to run its course and disperse. Instead, we slowed the spread and gave it time to mutate. Now there's like 9 different mutations and we've been developing a vaccine that will be somewhere around fifty percent effective on one of those.

You think just letting it run it’s course stops or slows the mutation process? Seriously? That is the dumbest shit I’ve heard in a while. Especially since the antibodies have been shown to last anywhere between 12 hours and 3-4 weeks. And reinfection is possible.

In Denmark the virus got into the farmed mink population, where it has now mutated and is transmitting back to humans. They are now planning on destroying every mink in the nation to fight this mutation. Where would the US be if this happened with farmed animals here? Lets say, oh how about chickens, how would the US handle it if that happened?

Personally I do not see what the big deal is with the rona. I had it, took 21 days of sick leave, built a new bicycle, streamed a lot of videos and caught up on sleep. Seemed pretty good to me. And that is similar to what every other person I know that has had it. Hell my 93 year old brother-in-laws father had it and he is doing great.
For those of you that are going to scream how cruel I am, go ahead, I do not care. My case is FAR more typical than all of the deaths the left are screaming about. People die every single day, if not from the rona, then from something else. Y'all are the kind of idiots that will point to traffic fatalities being down and say, 'See look how much good the lock down did, all those people lived.' And while that is happening another 100K jobs got lost to economic crisis and how many lives destroyed as a result of it.
I find it hysterical that you think you can beat mother nature, she is going to do what she is going to do and she is one cruel bitch, so when the Biden plan fails, just like the Trump plan, come back and tell me how much better a job he is doing. A vaccine and/ore immunity are the only ways to beat this thing.
And stop comparing us to other countries, we are not them, we do not want to be them, if you think Denmark or Vietnam is so great, move there, they have the internet, you can go be a whiny little bitch from over there.
There will be nothing special about the Biden presidency, even the people screaming about how great it is a black woman is VP, first of all, she is bi-racial, just like Obama, but no one ever mentions that, and secondly, having a woman as a leader in a democracy is hardly a new thing, just ask Margaret Thatcher.
Biden will run the country with executive orders because congress will be split, he will likely get very few if any judges appointed, and we will have gridlock, not a terrible thing. Oh and while you are praising Biden on his governance with the executive orders, your selective memory can go ahead and forget lambasting Trump for doing the exact same thing.
And for all you gutless turds leaving me negative rep, have the balls to say who you are, otherwise you are just re-affirming what I already know about liberals.

Of course you don’t, because you look at it so shortsighted.
Let me try and break it down for you.
1. It’s a new virus, that we know nothing about.
2. We are still unsure how exactly it spreads, but we do know, it’s more contagious than the flu.
3. We have no mass produced medicine/vaccine to help Lessen or manage the severity of the symptoms. Hell, we don’t even know what all the symptoms are still.
4. We are still discovering the short term effects of the virus
5. We still have absolutely zero clue about any long term medical conditions that could arise from being infected.
6. It has been medically and scientifically shown that it has a greater impact on people with pre-existing conditions than previous viruses that we have encountered.
Why do you think the entire world is locking down? There have always been two known effective ways to slow any virus down, wearing a mask to protect others, and social distancing to protect yourself.
Why do you think the entire world is rushing for a vaccine? if it was nothing serious, who the fuck cares? why would the world be doing this? People act like wearing a mask is the end of the world, or social distancing is. They are not.. they are basic things we can do to slow any virus down and to help each other... it’s not an infringement on any of your rights.
You mention Vietnam, and you also mention we don’t get over this without a vaccine/immunity. I mentioned Vietnam, Thailand and other countries, because they HAVE gotten over this.. without either of the things you 100% believe are the only answers to this.
You know why they got over it? They locked down for 4-5 months back in march(which we could have done), they stopped all flights entering their countries, any returning citizens were required to take a Covid test and stay isolated until the results came back. they provided support for businesses and people. They stayed locked down till the virus was pretty much gone and reopened. After the lockdown ended everyone in their countries still wore a mask and social distanced and STILL DO. Their countries are fully reopened and have been for quite a few months, and we could be in the exact same situation if we did what they did and are doing now. But we didn’t, and Europe didn’t and now we are still in this giant shit show while other countries are fully reopened.

Using Pfizers production numbers, 25 million people this year, assuming confirmation, and 650 or so million next year would be able to get the vaccine. To early to tell how long it lasts which is obviously a large part of a vaccine.

Germany declared lockdown on 10/28, when they rose to 800 new weekly cases per million capita.
We started LIFTING lockdowns when we fell to 800 new weekly cases per million capita in September.
We are now over 2000 new weekly cases per million capita, and the rate of increase itself increased to 36% week over week.
This is how we have five times as many deaths per capita.

What is Vermont doing that the rest of the nation isn't doing?
when the little states start going bed they tend to flutter between green / yellow / red, because what with being little the noise is much higher relative to their signal
with that said, VT NH and ME have been doing the best overall, even among the Northeast that had been the last regional holdout the past couple months. i can't say for certain but my guess is rural living DOES actually help, but not if the rural people don't follow the common sense precautions like masks distancing etc. that Democrat controlled states tend to and Republican controlled states don't (see the Dakotas), and since those three are by a pretty wide margin the most rural blue states that's that
but it's just a guess

It's not cruelty, it's myopia. If you smoke cigarettes and don't get lung cancer, it doesn't mean cigarettes don't cause lung cancer. If you don't wear a seat belt and don't die in a car crash, it doesn't mean seat belts don't save lives. Your experience is not universally generalizable, which means sometimes you have to listen to people you disagree with if you want to be correct. If you want to be smugly incorrect, on the other hand, you can keep doing what you're doing.

The Biden-esque measures taken by these countries short of a new lockdown were completely ineffective at stopping a rise comparable to the USA. Peace in the Middle East? Israel signed peace treaties with 3 countries they weren't at war with and were never in danger of going to war with. literally all that happened is air lines can now travel more directly. Is Muslim Nations being willing to talk with Israel good, sure, but to call it a peace treaty is farcical. Of course Israel is vastly closer to war with Lebanon and the Palestinians again, but that doesn't count right?

Germany declared lockdown on 10/28, when they rose to 800 new weekly cases per million capita.
We started LIFTING lockdowns when we fell to 800 new weekly cases per million capita in September.
We are now over 2000 new weekly cases per million capita, and the rate of increase itself increased to 36% week over week.
This is how we have five times as many deaths per capita.

Spain and France are equal per-capita, and the UK is 2/3rds. The Biden-esque measures taken by these countries short of a new lockdown were completely ineffective at stopping a rise comparable to the USA. And Biden has less power to order health measures than those leaders do. Convenient the vaccine was announced 6 days after the election, given that Pfizer's CEO is a huge Dummycrat donor, no?
That you would seriously hold up Prime Minister Boris Johnson (Boris Johnson!) as an example of what Democrats wanted to do says all that needs to be said about your Europe comparisons.
As for the vaccines, their progress has been scrupulously and meticulously announced (http://forum.gsplayers.com/showthread.php?125686-On-the-Vaccine) for months. Anyone who wanted to know has known since the summer that vaccines would be ready to go November-December. And of course, the Pfizer vaccine is not technically even at the ready to go stage yet, since it has not received FDA approval.
The irony is that the President's strategy was never politically expedient. Had he started Operation Warp Speed a month earlier, he'd have gotten the vaccine announcements and surely a concomitant polling bump before voting instead after it. Joe Biden understands how to get re-elected, he will do what is politically expedient, and it is in fact to fight this pandemic. As I said in the first post he won't take big enough swings, and even the swings he does take will be hampered, but when we're at a tipping point all it takes is a nudge one way instead of the other, a hand to pull us back from the cliff instead of pushing us over.
And in 72 days, we will at long last get that hand.
And the long journey home will begin.

I truly believe that when history looks back, the overwhelming majority of Americans will have worn masks to protect others, distanced to protect themselves, and generally taken the rudimentary steps it took to protect our nation. Maybe 80%, maybe 90%, somewhere in that ballpark - an eternal reminder of the fundamental decency of our people.
And the hundreds of thousands deaths caused by the plain spitefulness of the remaining ~15% will be its own eternal reminder, of the fundamental need for government, real government: powerful, organized, uniform, imposing, regulatory, punitive. We ordained it as such for a reason - tranquility and welfare aren't boons, liberty and justice aren't free.
We don't have laws against murder for the overwhelming majority of Americans who weren't going to murder anyone anyway.
We have laws against murder for the tiny fraction who do.
And we always will.

Next, after I accepted the bet, you can’t add or remove conditions or stipulations, it doesn’t work like that, even with that, you never once added any conditions or stipulations, you just simply asked, who should we send the money to? It is your job to set any conditions or stipulations before any wager or bet is established, not after. You failed to do that. After I made the agreement, can you show me any time you wrote that, unless we send money to a mutual person, our bet is void? On August 31st, President Trump first told us we were "rounding the final turn" of the pandemic. One month later, he was proven right...
https://imgur.com/jMxrVis.png
...albeit in the opposite direction of what Americans wanted. Since June 8th (the new daily cases minimum between the spring and summer peaks) new daily deaths have tracked very precisely with new daily cases when time shifted by 18 days, as shown above. This means by December we are going to see over 2000 daily deaths for the first time since mid-April.
Let me clear: there is absolutely nothing we can do to stop this.
We could vaccinate every single American with a 100% effective vaccine today and it would already be too late to prevent us from reaching that grim milestone. The infections have happened, they just haven't been confirmed yet. The same proportion will over time develop illness, worse illness, perilous illness, and die.
Our only choice is how many more of those deaths we want to allow.
.
Now, this post is in this thread because of which states specifically have seen the most of their residents' parents, children, and friends die since August 31st, shown here in deaths per 1m capita:
deaths/m state
497 North Dakota
436 Arkansas
422 South Dakota
338 Mississippi
335 Montana
292 Georgia
288 Missouri
285 Florida
281 Tennessee
261 South Carolina
It's not the Acela corridor.
It's not the coastal elites.
It's not the winter - 70° in Knoxville, 75° in Atlanta, 77° in Charleston, 80° in Miami.
It's not the Dems - the only blue governor on that list is Montana's Governor Bullock, and Republicans control both houses of their state legislature.
What these states have in common is listening to one man, buying into the lie.
And it was a lie, a knowing falsehood, and it remains a lie.
If we can all just listen to the truth, we can tame this surge as we have twice before, and just as we did twice before it will be pulling against the gravity of the most powerful man in the free world.
In 70 days, gravity flips.

Late yesterday the governor of North Dakota, the worst suffering state in the Union over the past month and a half, declared a mask mandate, various capacity limits, and school sports cancellations (https://www.governor.nd.gov/news/burgum-announces-new-requirements-businesses-gatherings-and-masks-delays-winter-activities). We have been late for eight months, and hundreds of thousands have died needlessly as a result. But hundreds of thousands ain't millions - it's never too late.
The President woke up this morning and tweeted that the Governor of Georgia (who once sued local governments over mask mandates, and as the above table shows who also governs a state allowing itself to be ravaged by the pandemic) should follow the lead of his fellow Republican in North Dakota and take the same simple common sense steps.
Just kidding, he tweeted that the Governor of Georgia cheated him out of the election.

Because I haven’t and I’m sure you haven’t either. if you are going to run around acting like $10k is nothing, than turn around and act like all of a sudden it’s a big sum of money is fucking laughable.
If it was nothing like SHM claims and boast it was, he should have zero issue just paying up now, shouldn’t he?
No, this is bullshit. If I won Powerball tomorrow and had $45872394273043 in my bank account, I'd still make sure shit was set up to where there was 0 chance of the winner of the bet not getting paid. I would think most people with any common sense would, even if $10k is actual chump change. Which I'm pretty sure SHM doesn't consider that chump change, regardless of whatever he makes. I'm also pretty sure he wouldn't trust someone to make good on a $10,000 bet over the internet just based on their word. Because that would be stupid as fuck.
When we made our bet, did we agree on who would hold the money? We didn’t.
You're comparing a $100 bet to a $10,000 bet. I'm not going to explain why this matters if you really need it spelled out.
Just put your boner for SHM away. At least over this, because it's making you say really retarded things now.

Obviously you missed the point of my comparison, which in turn makes what you said really retarded.
Let me lay it out again, SHM flouts like $10k is nothing, just like $100 is nothing for us. See where I’m getting at now? We didn’t set up terms and conditions for our $100 is nothing much bet.
10k is a lot of money to everyone here unless you are that ratfuck Shkreli or a quadruple gender studies doctorate holder. Just because people spend 1k on a flaming horse mount doesn't mean they're rich, just that they have stupid priorities.
To be frank, it’s not a lot of money. To me, it’s what you American’s like to call “Chump change”.
Considering that $10k and up has to be reported to the IRS, I'd say that qualifies it as a large sum of money.

Why would I care about the IRS? They have no jurisdiction here. I post on another website, where we regularly do bets of a couple of thousands of dollars, without a so-called middle man. A persons rep on the forum board is enough there. I agreed to his wager at first, because he indeed was acting like that amount of money wasn’t much to him. The reason I never came back and answered his reply, I received about 10 messages from people that he would back out, lie or just not honour our wager. These are from people here that do have a solid reputation, so I would think. In conclusion, what has happened, happened. I see no reason to squabble over it now. I’ll go back to being a leaf in the wind.

Based on your thinking above, and what you would do in your hypothetical situation above where $10k is chump change and you’d still make sure there was 0 chance of the winner not getting paid.
For us $100 is chump change.. So why didn’t you set it up where there was a 0 chance of the winner not getting paid, for our bet? Because your previous actions are contradicting your words above.
Once again, that’s why I made that $10k to $100 comparison.

I was just using that as a baseline for 10k being considered a "large amount." since at least in the US, that's when the IRS starts giving a shit about it. Obviously it's all relative. I also have no idea where you're from.
Based on your thinking above, and what you would do in your hypothetical situation above where $10k is chump change and you’d still make sure there was 0 chance of the winner not getting paid.

Mainly because I've known you for almost 20 years now and your word has always been good from what I can remember.
If it was some random I didn't really know, or some colossal retard like macgyver, I would have done it differently because I wouldn't rely on the honor system to get paid if I won, even if it was just for a measly $100. I don't know anything about Exit, at least under that name, but that's irrelevant.
I don't recall SHM claiming that $10k was chump change to him, even though he makes pretty good money overall, but I assume you've seen him state that?
Either way, SHM asked about how to handle the money and got no reply, so I would have left it at that too. It doesn't put anyone at fault, imo. But chump change or not, I'm pretty sure SHM wouldn't rely on the honor system either unless he already knows Exit. Which they might be besties for all I know.
In unrelated news, every time I see you post "you go girl" I think of Stanley Roper...

So there's good news and bad news. The bad news is that we're still right on track for 2000 daily deaths by December.
https://imgur.com/mrnfqcB.png
Also bad news is that we know from other countries that saw a recent uptick that this one isn't going to magically be different somehow, that deaths will still track proportionally to cases.
https://imgur.com/81HgauN.png
More bad news is that we are seeing uncontrolled spread from sea to shining sea.
.
Here's the good news.
https://imgur.com/se8XZWo.png
We are flattening the curve, and will reach a peak in new cases in the next week, which projects out to around 2750 daily deaths in mid December, with individual days in the mid 3000s. This also assumes that we won't see any increased mortality due to an overwhelmed healthcare system, or case spikes due to holiday travel, or people listening to the President of the United States when he lies that "far fewer people are dying when they get COVID" or retweets lies about the ineffectiveness of mask mandates.
That 2750 daily deaths qualifies as GOOD news is an incredibly grim portent for the next 58 days.

Mortality rate is deaths per population, which is not what the President said, which was "dying when they get COVID", which is the infection fatality rate, which as proven by the CDC's seroprevalence studies has not changed; it remains at 1%.

About 3,300,000 people would have died from the coronavirus without shutdowns.
About 33,000 people usually die from the influenza virus without shutdowns.
This is why the cost of shutdowns outweighs the upsides for influenza, but not for coronavirus.

As Tgo01 already demonstrated in another thread, China's reporting of SARS-CoV-2 was dramatically faster and more forthcoming than their reporting of SARS-CoV-1. If China's communication was a relevant factor, ergo, SARS-CoV-1 would have killed many more than SARS-CoV-2 even after factoring in our loss of President George W. But it didn't.

Should just bring back the guillotine. Low overhead (fiduciary hawks rejoice), reusable (the eco-friendly crowd should enjoy that aspect), low maintenance (dependable and sturdy - American made), and no special qualifications required for the operators (thus increasing job growth).
All in all, a fine plan that supports multiple ideological perspectives.

In that case just use an airtight room, cleanup costs are lower then a guillotine after all.

Excellent idea, but reduces job opportunities, thus reducing disposable income, thus reducing taxes, thus reducing the capabilities of the welfare state.

248 Texans died yesterday from the coronavirus, the most of any state in the Union, but Texas is pretty big.
If Tennessee was as big as Texas, 400 Tennesseans would have died yesterday.
If Missouri was as big as Texas, 500 Missourians would have died yesterday.
If Iowa was as big as Texas, 750 Iowans would have died yesterday.
If Kansas was as big as Texas, 1000 Kansans would have died yesterday.
If South Dakota was as big as Texas, 1000 South Dakotans would have died yesterday.
This remains the last Tweet from our President about COVID:

There is help coming, in 46 days.
But a hundred thousand of us won't have 46 days.
We have to pull together now.
Us.
If New York was as big as Texas, 85 New Yorkers would have died yesterday.
We aren't helpless. We aren't babies. We know what we have to do, and we can do it.
If you ever dreamed of the moon shot, or marching with the Reverend Doctor, or socking ol' Adolf in the jaw, this is our time.
This is our chance.
Today.
Now.
