Kroderine Soul is a new combat maneuver for squares that grants benefits for forsaking magic and is now available on all instances. CMAN HELP KRODERINESOUL output is listed below for your convenience. Enjoy!
Skill Name: Kroderine Soul
Mnemonic: kroderinesoul
Type: Active Buff
Other Requirements: Forsake all magic.
Available to: Warriors, Rogues, Monks
Combat Maneuver Points:
Instant migration for this skill is enabled.
Rank 1: Free
Description: Your soul is forged from anti-magic kroderine.
Mechanics: When learned, this skill may not be unlearned without using a FIXSKILL. Physical damage reduction is increased and will now apply to all sources of damage (including magical damage). Any hostile spell effects will have their duration capped at 20 seconds. Beneficial magic from most sources will fail entirely and you are unable to self-cast any beneficial magic. If you learn a spell from any source these benefits are immediately lost.
Finally, you gain access to two additional abilities:
Absorb Magic: Absorb the next harmful spell cast at you and revitalize yourself.
Dispel Magic: Dispel all negative magic affecting you.

Kroderine armor would be amazing with a KS build. 0 downside you just eat spells now. Buy that ore at DR yo.

It's pretty meh for current hunting grounds. This might be good for future hunting grounds with the spell sever but in current grounds I have the feeling its going to be better to just wear what spells you can under spellburst.

No, this is not it. Spell Sever is the next iteration of Spell Burst. No matter your training you can only wear X number of outside spells in that zone. Where X is a different number for each different hunting area. Currently there is only 1 hunting area that uses it, the new F'yerie zone on Teras with 85-90 creatures. You can wear 2 outside spells in this zone.

Yea, definitely makes for super fun mage-hunting style builds

My only real problem with this is that it pretty much removes you from magic, which is a giant part of the game. There's a much higher chance that dev work won't be in areas that apply to you, and you're going to have nothing to spend TPs on.

Yeah I can't really see many if any post cap squares giving up self cast spells. Its pretty much essential in most capped hunting areas. But to each their own, its not something that would interest me.

Combine it with martial mastery for more AS from extra weapon skills, and setting the majority of your experience to the new ascension system, this would work well for post cap warriors.

This would be better if there was a martial mastery but for defense.

This doesn't seem in any way accurate, post ascension. Even ignoring ascension, maxing your normal square training, including 2 "extra" weapon skills for martial mastery, takes you easily to 3x cap and probably more. Then switch to 100% ascension. If you're already massively post cap and you have the TPs for spells, keep using spells. It's just better, ignoring any potential soul-specific ascension skills.

It's not that spells are mandatory, but they are substantially better than this skill. Getting 430/120 as a warrior is massive by comparison and barely dents your DFRedux. That's way post-cap, however, so prior to having the TPs to train that many spells, this might be more ideal.
This new skill doesn't change the current "meta" for ideal training, nor does it replace having a pocket wizard for leveling in general. It only provides an alternative path. Before it was pretty much necessary for a warrior to hunt with outside spells. With this, and the right gear, you could survive well enough on your own - but probably not until your 60s.
I might be convinced to try out kroderine soul for a stealth rogue over anything else actually because it would help mitigate the lighter armor class with extra damage reduction while still helping with spells in those infrequent situations where you're forced to take a hit.

I explained how it removes you from magic, and you say I'm wrong and then explain how with this you don't need magic.
It quite literally removes you from magic, by design. And then what? Magic is a huge amount of what adds depth to this game.

Anyway, I'm giving it a run in the test server to see how it goes. I can hunt the Scatter pretty effectively, with about 15 more AS and 100 less DS, and maybe 40 less TD? Something like that. We will see how it goes.

Let me know how it goes Kerl.
I don't think the Dev's have a good grasp of to how to fix the post-cap warrior so I'm not holding my breath.
But at least they are giving it a shot. again...

I spent a couple hours hunting with it in the scatter last night. Without spells, any and all improvements will be from your gear.
I need to figure out how to route my storefront stuff to the test instance. Honestly, working with the wrong color screen and no shortcuts was the hardest part. The most annoying part is that it lowers the point where training in skills is worthless to probably around 25m exp. And I mean the point where you've trained fully in every utility and square skill to the max, because there's no point in training in anything else. So even without untraining 100 ranks of mana control and 101 ranks of harness power, I was still walking around with thousands of unused EXP that can do nothing, without a fixskill into ascension.
Martial Master should not be penalized by spell knowledge.
So what worked and what didn't: with martial mastery vs 51 ranks of minor elemental spells, my AS went up 12 or 13 points. Unfortunately TD dropped about 75 points, and DS about 100. Without any spells, voln symbols were being constantly dispelled. As someone with some pretty good TD gear, I was still getting warded. I can generate 70 points of TD and was still getting warded, so most of you are going to get warded probably 95% of the time you get cast at. Maybe if you're rocking the kroderine gear that's going to work for you.
Kroderine Soul is basically a throwback to old school redux. My first recommendation is to include a way to nullify maneuver penalties due to wounds. They way those were implemented was a huge mistake anyway, and it's long overdue for change. It had huge unintended consequences, namely by taking huge amounts of work from empaths. No one comes back to town bleeding from 8 places at 25 per round anymore, because of maneuver penalties. What we need is maneuver penalty redux.

I stopped doing logs about 10 years ago. Maybe I'll figure out how to restart them. I don't think you're going to find it to be particularly earth shattering though.

Spelltanking on a class not designed to have spells is the literal opposite of adding depth to the game. Adding a fuckton of vanilla stats so you can basically ignore everything not casting implode isn't depth.
It's obviously not as good as having spells, put it lets you get by fine and it's a way more active that set it and forget it with spells. Adding more attractive options aside from facerolling ambush / berserk / mstrike to squares is definitely something GMs know is an issue, and i think further planned changes to the CMan system (now that naijin got the boring stuff done by getting all the stuff on the backend standardized, and making costs a little more sensical), and ascension are where that would come from in the future. The wound stacking can be a real problem and is one of the reasons just not getting hit will always be better than being resistant. armored reinforcement is a thing but even minors really add up for maneuver penalties so it's a problem no matter what.

It quite literally keeps you from using magic, whether you've got 50k exp or 50m exp. No scrolls, no items, no spells you've learned yourself. Nothing. But sure, make all the projections you want about facerolling mstrike or what have you.

Why should it be? The truth is it shouldn't. If we're going to be spending DEV time on new skills, they should at least be as good as what we already have.
I very much appreciate Naijin's work on improving just about every aspect of maneuver RT and stamina cost. He did a great job on that.

Naijin being a GM get’s to peek behind the curtain constantly. Maybe he added Kroderine Soul because he sees the ‘writing on the wall’ in terms of future hunting ground development. Maybe in future post-cap hunting grounds there’s going to be little spell-landmines that get energized with all the spells you’re wearing and explode.

They’ve already said future hunting areas will have Spell Sever, which strips you down randomly to just two outside spells. People who want to spell tank won’t be hunting new areas.

AFAIK, they've only specifically said the next hunting ground Oscuro is working on (which we are all I think rightly assuming is the ascension/post cap ground) is going to use spell sever. My impression was that spell sever is more another flavor of spellburs that will be in the mix for new hunting grounds after that and not necessarily the standard.

I don't think this has much to do with that, directly. Naijin has played most all classes to a decent level but he primarily likes squares. Squares had very little to do post cap compared to casters aside from learning spells, and have a harder (but not at all undoable) time being totally self-spelled while leveling which he prefers to do. Now they have some more meaningful post cap growth (maxing martial mastery), and an avenue to be more self-reliant without loading up on spells. If you wanna play a warrior like a warrior without getting lit up like a christmas tree, you can. it's still worse, but it's a far more attractive option now.

This blocks you from arcane spells also, right? I mean any 3x capped square running 430/120 + 1712 is better off even in spell sever areas.

Nope. They straight up said expect spell sever for all in flight AEXP areas.

You can read around that time but the context is people saying spell sever is bad, oscuro being like "welp, good news. it's probably the new normal"

Arcane is not subject to spell sever. Load up on dem 1700s x a days.
edit: misread that at first, but yes KS blocks you from arcane circle as well. If you / someone else can cast a buff on yourself and go hunt with it alone, it's blocked. I believe they decided to allow most / all spells that you have to be actively grouped with someone to receive. Like monk focus spells, or tonis, etc. The idea is replace you learning spells, or getting a drevenining. not reduce the intended active group benefits people can provide.

Dreavening is dead! Simu killed off the need for super max spellups!
Now, quickly....everyone go out and spend cash on SimuCoins and farm for BS or even seashells to buy up SK items!

I kinda agree. They will put the bar so "high" for new hunting grounds in term of rewards (ATP exp, more treasures, stuff) that people will slowly accept it as the new normal. You don't force a change, you just make it a no brainer.
Expect a LOT of 1x items being released in future p2w. New meta!
And then, when every average Joe and common Karen got em, we will face another cycle of nerfing cause you know, big picture wise, it's hard to focuse lol

Not to say that the monetization of every last little thing possible isn't sheisty as hell, but you have to admit that the new normal of everyone walking around spell-tanked with every defensive spell in the game is completely ludicrous. The game wasn't designed for that.

A while ago, back when LinkedIn profiles were public, his profile had him as a slot machine technician before he worked at Simu. I always wondered if that was serious, he put it in as a joke, or someone somehow snuck that on there.

You're being dramatic. It's not as if half a dozen class defining SK items were just auctioned off to essentially 2 people for tens of thousands of $$ in what used to be a mostly fluff/rp event. Shit, wait a minute...

Meh. Breaking gemstone with cash is a time honored tradition. We just got flashier about it. Pooping out obscene weighting and padding gave way to fancy scripts and SK items...that also have obscene weighting, but ya know. At a certain point it just doesn't matter.
Balancing the game for people who put that much time/silver/$$ into a character just isn't going to happen ever. If they wanna sell a spell-re-attach to counter spell-sever, like the crown they just sold that nullifies spellburst, oh wellz. If they sell 1, and someone wants to buy it for 10k whatever. That's subsidizing the game from someone with more dollars than sense and doesn't change anything about overall game balance.
If they start selling shit like that in the simucoin store, for cheaper, and the area is then balanced around you having a spellup and thus that item....that's some bullshit. Whale milk feeds the hamsters.

It's not about balance, it's about access. It's just bad business to design a release method with such limited access. When only 2 people get 9 of 10 top tier items, it causes 2 problems: it alienates everyone else, and from a business perspective it creates a very unstable market for your product.
This is a game that needs to have people interested in playing it to survive. Being shut out from cool stuff makes people lose interest. And before the four or five of you chime in with "it doesn't impact your game play," if that logic drove why we spend money on this game at all, no one would ever buy anything, and all these "get new cool stuff" events would fail. We buy stuff because we want it, not because we need it, and shutting out all but a couple of people from a release method doesn't make anyone excited to be a part of this multiplayer game.

That was one of the main reasons for the shift of GSIII to GSIV. Issues with balancing hunting areas with the power creep from high level players and the ease of access to spells since a lot were able to be cast upon others.
Sad to see they're shifting things back that direction.

That’s pretty poor planning on their part if they never envisioned people would walk around with spells that can be cast on others.
What this game really wasn’t designed for was everyone walking around with 10x claids with 1 billion points of crit weighting; 10x armor with 1 trillion points of damage weighting, 60% slash resist, and absorbs all low level spells on them.
Seems kind of odd people are on board with the GMs doing away with a service that is accessible to 100% of the player base and seems to have no problem with game breaking items as long as they cost thousands of dollars.

The biggest issue was level disparity than spell tanking, though I do agree that both issues were addressed. Level compression was absolutely necessary if the game staff wanted to continue designing hunting areas and events that would be of interest to anyone. It had become impossible to design an event that was of interest to most players, that wouldn't just get slaughtered by a few. No one wanted to put in the huge amount of time and effort to design for the level disparity that existed then, and was going to continue.
