View Full Version : Suing for being fat

Another topic just made me think about it.. how ridiculous is that? Like the kids that sued McDonald's cause they were fat from eating their food. Do their parents teach them nutrition or the fact that yes, sitting around and eating fast food will make you fat?

Anyone disagree?

Just another example of how no one in our society feels the need to take responsibility for any of their own actions.

Damn right! You eat the food, you don't do anything... therefore the food (very high in fat, oil, calories) is of course just going to sit in you and turn into fat since it won't be burned off. So when suprisingly they get fat rolls, they blame the food industry rather than themselves... because.. why?

A man can bring a case to court where his parents are the defendants and the complaint is about circumcision.

Fat people taking fast food chains to court surprises you?

Doesn't suprise me, pisses me off. No one held a gun at your head and said "eat this triple bacon cheeseburger, extra large fries, and non-diet soda and a frostie and then go lay on your ass for the rest of the night". You choose what you eat and so they should accept the fat rolls.

Just goes to show, in America you can sue for anything. I think staring at the monitor is making my eyes cross...hmmmm.

You have blond roots dear; you don't need a monitor to go cross-eyed.

And it does piss me off to.

Old women, who should know better, placing hot cups of coffee between their legs as they leave the drive through. Smokers trying to cash in on their habit. The list goes on and it only shows how screwed up the American legal system and social structure are.

I have no faith in a system that would allow a ruling in favor of a burglar because he broke his leg walking down my steps while holding my TV.

How old were these 'kids'? I take responsibility for what my daughter eats as long as she's under my roof. (yeah... I know... as long as you're under my roof) So, the kids should be suing the parents. I'm not saying anyone should really be sued, but if the parents were the ones responsible for feeding them, then they are picked what the kid ate.. (eating out isn't free to my knowledge)

Anyway, I want some fries.

I'm not sure, it was sometime last year. I think they were all teens or somewhere in that range. I just remember watching it on the tv, it was like during that huge snow storm (anyone in the tri-state area will know what I'm talking about) and we were going on a cruise and that's all that was on tv as the ship was leaving port..

A burglar can't sue if he's dead and his family can't sue if he's put through a wood chipper and then fed to some stray dogs.... What burglar?

People need to grow a spine and learn to be responsible for their own actions. Every damn one of them needs to go to boot camp.

I live in an area that McDonalds is probably considered 'healthy' eating. (teasing... sort of) Heck, I remember my grandmother frying fatback for my grandfather to eat. Because he loved it! Pure, fried fat. Anyway...

Either way, those kind of lawsuits are frivolous.

I can only grind them if I'm home. Chances are, if I'm home there's little chance they will be walking anywhere. Unfortunately I live in IL, that means if I drop them I have to put a weapon in their hand before the police get there or else I'm going away in cuffs.

I'm in ethics now. But chances are I'll be on the other side of those cases. I'm planning to go into business law, so I'll most likely be defending companies against those sort of bogus lawsuits.

I like my justice system better... for my presentation today it went like this "In my country, no one is allowed to sue anyone else. If something is stolen it will be replaced. If you cut down too many trees, you're exiled and if you rape or murder, you're publically beheaded. By order the the queen. ME!"

And who would decide these peoples guilt, before they were beheaded or whatever?

GSLeloo

Well... I have a judge. A judge, some police, and the monarchy. And the executioner...

GSLeloo
09-20-2003, 01:49 AM
And my presentation wasn't that out there.. the guys that followed us went like this "Only swedish, italian, and irish women are allowed to stay in our country. Our main export are women as prostitutes. The womens role is childbearer, cook, and babysitter."

Ok, the guys at your school are morons.

But back to your presentation; If you have police, judge, jury and all that, you would also need someone to make sure their case is handled fairly and properly. Hence lawyers.

So what's different abut the justice system you're proposing, from the one we already have, besides the sentence that they would serve?

Nitpicking of rules/laws and circumventing of common sense. There's some sort of a proposed law for Illinois I think. Called the "No means No" law. Apparently, there needs to be a law dictating that if someone says NO to sex, they actually mean NO.

Camri
09-20-2003, 10:17 AM
I don't thik it's just about accepting responsibility. I believe most of these people who are filing these lawsuits know they themselves are to blame.

So if they know this, what's it about? It's about money. It has become common knowledge that you can sue for stupid stuff, and receive financial gain.

I can go in a store. Find a wet spot on the floor. Slip in it, and get a instant cash bonus of no less than $5000.00

They're simply greedy, and lack the morals honesty requires.

The current setup of our justice system allows this dishonesty. There needs to be firmer more inclusive standards set in place to cover these kinds of cases. Most states have contributory negligence factors set in place. ( If you contrubuted to it with your stupidity..) But they usually arent set up to cover these kinds of cases. Contributory negligence seems to be limited more often to car accidents, and similar types of suits.

Actually my country was monarchy based. There is no jury, if we decide you're guilty, you're guilty. And we also have very little crime, we're an idealistic society. We have no electricity and no factories, we make our products in family owned smiths and each family is required to hunt for their own table and grow vegetables for their own table and not waste anything.

I hope I never have to live in your world. It would really suck to have one person deciding the fates of others. What if you were wrong?

It sounds great to say you would have little crime, but how could you know that for sure?

And as far as the growing your own food thing... I grew up on a farm, and lived that way. Never again. And I've experienced a brief period when I was so poor my freshman year, the power got cut. Sorry, but this chick has to have electric lights, and hot water. ;)

We import medicine while we export gems (Mwahaha!) But um.. we have wells, not running water. It's basically going back in time to say like a 1600's european society.. somewhere around there. It's simple and basically the main thing is you have to respect nature and the life around you.

If you're going to have wells, you better import a lot of medicine. Especially if you're not planning to have means available to treat said wells. Do you know how much bacteria grows in those things if they aren't treated?

Better do some serious reading about life in the 1600's. Disease, life expectancy, etc. Before you decide if you really want to live there.

I'm against the entire suing concept regardless of the reason.

If you feel you just HAVE to sue, like in the case of the person who got burnt from the coffee, at least sue for the money that was spent to cure the burn and the time you lost from work and that's it. Mental anguish compensation my ass. If you're at home and you burn yourself with the coffee you made, are you really going to sue the coffeemakers for not mentioning that the coffee made will be hot? Heh, I'm sure someone already has.

The suing is the only thing about this country that I despise.

Solkern

People in california, when you get on the off ramps, People would throw the car in reverse and back up into you, and sue you BIG TIME, this one lady tried that backed into some guy, kicker was, she couldn't get her car out of reverse, she ended going to jail for 5 years on insurance fraud and all sorts of crazy shit
