Has anyone managed to water this every day for 14 days because the details seem pretty vague. Do I need find a room to plant it in then return to the same room every day to water it or can it stay in a worn container?

What sort of water does it need? will the vials of water from the guild shops work? If 903 or 306 is cast at it will it blow it up?

Nope, just pour water on it once a day for 14 days. I got my water from an inn. You will get messaging that lets you know you're successful.

If you succeed the prize is better than if you miss a day(s). You will get a message that prevents you from "over watering". 903 is 0 help.
