I've had this for so long I can't recall where I got it, but never thought is was particularly valuable. I held onto it and used it as a skinning dagger cause it's the only blade I've seen made of the metal. Recently I've seen a couple other alexandrite weapons being offered for sale as prices that surprised me... so I've gotten curious about it's value:

As you sing, you feel a faint resonating vibration from the alexandrite dagger in your hand...

It has a bonus of -19 from a normal dagger, and the way it vibrates in tune with your voice tells you that it requires skill in edged weapons to use effectively.
Roundtime: 15 sec.

You carefully inspect your alexandrite dagger.

After a careful inspection you determine that a ceremonial alexandrite dagger requires skill in edged weapons to use effectively.

It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of alexandrite.

Alexandrite itself is not particularly valuable. The landing weapon shop can custom order most weapons with it as a material. All I can think is that it is possible that those other weapons you saw had been enchanted. Alexandrite is -19 and had a -500 mod to enchanting so it is very difficult to produce a weapon with any sort of positive enchant. The sellers might have put a premium cost on that work.
