...do you think its healthy for a Father or two (third on the way), to work a shit job all day, then come home and spend every waking hour on the internet?

Is it just my own thinking that the formative years of a childs life are important and require some Father figure around who isn't sat at the computer all night?

The way I handle this is: I come home at around 5:30 PM and attempt to spend a good couple of hours with my kids. My kids are at that age where they have their own friends and they like to watch their own TV shows so sometimes it is tough. Weekends is when we spend most of our time together.. and vacations.

Sadly it's the way many people sped their time, Stray.
I've known a woman who sat healing in GS (for hours) while her baby was screaming from its cot right behind her.

She doesn't play GS anymore either , her husband left due to the lack of interest in anything else in her life.

I would dread to think of the situation you're stating.
I think it's unbelievable.

Oh thankfully this doesn't apply to me. I don't intend to have kids for another 10 years or so (HOPEFULLY, TOUCH WOOD X 10000).

I'm the father of one 2 year old currently and I have changed when and how I am on the internet while he's home at the same time I am. Hence why I do not play GS as much as I used to. Basically I either spend my time in the internet (other) world when I have free time from work or when he's asleep (early am or late pm) and I happen to be awake and not performing other husbandly duties...

The thing I've come to realize is that I really really enjoy focusing my attention on my child instead of being online. Having a child really can fix an internet gaming addiction if you are an involved parent.

I think if you manage it decently, you can do fine. I also imagine that Parkbandit can get away with playing at work...because he's the damn boss.

It's a matter of gestion too. People watch 30 hours per week of tv. Instead some people go on interner... Which is worse?

honestly, looking back at what I do now, I realize that my interests and behaviors are very much an impact of my relationship to my father:

basically, he didn't interact much with me as a child, so I went to HS, got stoned, screwed up my grades, and now am still in college at 25....

If he had spent more time with me, pursuing interesing (lucrative) hobbies, I would be in a position to buy him a really nice estate for his retirement...
but I am not.. therefore, he gets the cheapest retirement Home !!! (j/k)

Could have been worse Yswithe, your dad could have been like Tiger Woods's father. Yet even though the stories that initially came out were pretty negative about that, it seems to have paid off for both of them in some (emphasis on some) aspects of their life. I hope that their relationship as father and son is alot better than what the media made it out to be.

I hope the relationship that I have with my son will be one to foster support and encouragement without being overburdensom or seem like I'm living vicariously through him. Yet at the same time I do not want to seem distant or apathetic in what he's involved in. Hopefully there is a balance that both of us will be comfortable with as he gets older.

I think its a combination of both management and priority... with the emphasis on priority. Family > Internet/escape/other life...

Losing oneself in reality can have really positive consequences if you do it correctly.

04-01-2005, 04:54 PM
well, i should re-iterate, yes I am lucky to have had two loving parents, yes, my dad wasn't perfect, but no one is.

The point I am trying to make is that, my life might have turned out differently had he been able to direct me towards some _healthy_ activities in life, by example.

All in all he did a good job.

Neglecting children is bad.

Neglecting children because of an online game is really bad.

Individuals who neglect their children due to online gaming, and at the same time try to somehow justify it, should be drawn and quartered.

For a minute I thought you were taking a jab at me, but I don't spend all of my time on the internet nor do I have a shit job.

No, it's not healthy for any parent to give anything a higher priority than their children.

I leave for work before anyone gets up and I'm home in time to check my messages, lay out my work for the evening and leave again to pick up my girls.

At times I feel like my ass is spreading roots into the chair and I wish for nothing more than one of my kids to interrupt me. I've found that letting my youngest sit on my leg or listening to terrible jokes from my eldest while I restructure a proposal or go over expense reports makes my "homework" more bearable.

Is it just my own thinking that the formative years of a childs life are important and require some Father figure around who isn't sat at the computer all night?

Now just to answer your post X:

1) I'm not pinned down to one woman for the rest of my life because she got her ass pregnant.

2) I probably can earn more money in a day than you can in a week.

3) Unless you have two degree's or a masters, you're not more educated than I.

4) Learn to spell.

04-01-2005, 07:24 PM
I wouldn't worry about kids if I were you stray. You have to have sex first

Straycat, I know your kind. You throw HUNDRED of HUNDRED of randoms insults at everyone you "don't like" (so not a possible internet groupy).

Whenever you see one that the person become defensive/interested/pissed, you keep on going until you PRESUMe it's true.

You're just that, a presumer.

1) My woman was selected from many many many. I am with her since 7 years and she's 10 times cuter than ANY girls you'll get.

And on that, I know what I'm talking about;)

2) You wish, man, stop being so full of shit!!

3) I got more than you. Yeah half of what I know isn't useful as it won't be with the career I choose to have later. And I speak 3 languages when you speak one

4) Change your disk, I make less mistakes then you would make in any other language beside english.

p.s. You are ugly

Er, I have a long term gf Ranger. She's better than any hooker you'll find in Iraq.

1) Have you seen my gf? Nope. Is my gf pregnant? Nope. You, my ignorant friend, are stuck for life. Thats probably why you try to cheat on her.

2) For four days this April I will be earning £500 a day. Thats about $1000 American per day, with the oppurtunity to make more should I wish to.

3) You're un-educated. Admit it. An educated person would never say there is such a thing as useless knowledge.

4) Don't claim you can speak three languages when you clearly can't.

StrayRogue

Hulkein

X messing up spelling isn't something to make fun of him for. It's not his language. It's like laughing at someone with one leg for not being able to run as fast as you. He's at a disadvantage.

He also goes months at a time without ever even posting here, I doubt he neglects his kids.

Asha

:::: I told him that his first lesson should be to teach his students how to spell b-r-o-k-e. :::::

Completely agreed with the Masters degree of worthlessness.
Degree in Fine art = Currently working as a policeman.
Degree in French + German = working for dad as an office labourer.

Fuck education

I think the pattern is obvious.

So you failed your pathetic attempt to bring others in your crusade against me.

Keep on laughing at my english skills, I don't mind at all, it's only forcing me to be better.

Hulkein: 99% of people around me speak French which makes it hard to practice any other form of languages beside paying a teacher.

Booh that, but hey, it's almost like that everywhere!

:socool:

p.s. If it's bothering you THAT much (straycat), I won't be on for a big while, again:)

Never long enough X. Each time you've said you'd go away FOREVER you barely lasted a week. Compounded by the fact you try to IM me constantly with increasingly stupid IM names after originally crying "I don't want to talk to you", I'd be pretty happy if you left. Hell I'd be pretty happy if you died, for that matter.

Welcome to English Grammar:

A sentence ends usually after a period or full stop (.) is employed. Not using a period would entail the sentence runs on.

"Each time you've said you'd go away FOREVER you barely lasted a week"

The past here is implied. You fucking tool.
