Privacy settings are a godsend for just that very reason. With them its real easy just to limit those who IM you to those who are on your list. It keeps out alot of the nutjob IM's one can get when the list is left wide open. Unless attention such as that is what you're looking for.

Let me reiterate. The privacy settings suggestion was for those not wishing to be subject to your first > second IM's.
