I just picked up the UnderArmor HOVR MAchina LTs. They connect to my phone and smartwatch and supposedly help you set pace and give you a bunch of metrics. I just connected them to my phone and smart watch. Tomorrow they will probably become self aware though. Anyone have similar shoes?

The app for them has 5 stars, so that is a good sign at least. I love their other products, but this is my first pair of shoes from them.

Day 1 is about right. I haven’t run in a while so I stuck to 3 miles. Slowest 3 I ever did. The shoes gave all kind of metrics though. My stride length is 3 inches too long.

My wife and I started running to get some exercise since we've been working from home since mid March. Nice to get some exercise. I wear Asics with Duomax support to keep me from pronation. At 250 pounds, I gotta have a solid shoe.

I got my wife one of those Garmin Forerunner watches for her birthday and she loves it.

The iWatch is the best one out there, but a lot of others come close enough if Apple isn't your thing. I've heard the Samsung watches are pretty great. Nothing but good things about the Garmins too. Fitbit makes a few super cheap ones with no display that connect to your phone. If all you want is run tracking, pretty much any watch can do it.

Nice. I want to upgrade my fitness watch but I don't want to switch to Apple.

Why not? If not in the apple ecosystem, I get it.

If you already have an iPhone, I highly recommend the apple watch.

It is good (not great; definitely better than the fitbit but not garmin quality) at activity tracking. But the best part about it is that you can avoid the doom cycle of apps whenever you get one notification.

Instead of wasting 15 minutes on "oh look, I got a text. Let me check that. Any new emails? Let me check instagram. Wonder what's happening on twitter. Maybe I got an email in the last 5 minutes while I was reading twitter. Did the Pacers win last night?" With the apple watch I just quickly check the text and can't get into the app cycle. My phone stays in my pocket/deck for the most part.

I have a Samsung phone. I use an iPod classic but that's as much Apple as I want in my life. I know their watch is the best for fitness, but I can't pull that trigger.

I really just want the watch for running, I don't want it to be an extension of my phone. I have a random one that I liked for awhile but I don't think it's entirely accurate, and it just connects to its own meh app.

The Garmin has been recommended a couple of times now.

If you feel comfortable opening it up (it's not very hard with the right tools to open the case), I'd recommend looking into an SD card upgrade and/or new battery for your iPod, if you haven't already. The SD card mod in particular makes a huge difference in battery life.

Fair enough, though the battery life would be even longer with an SD card over the mechanical drives they came with. Also, the mechanical drives will eventually die, a lot of them are getting there already.

I've kind of turned into a nerd for modding the iPod minis, they're a lot easier to open up than the classics (and cheaper to find too).

You know I've been through this phase where I was trying to run as part of some health thing. $200 shoes were the norm for a few years there with all the gadgetry crapola. Didn't do me a lick of good in getting me to run more.

Running is super simple , we were designed for it, and imho the only thing that matters is attitude. Just being able to make it a habit; forcing yourself to get up at 6 and go out in the freezing cold to do laps. (btw, you feel awesome afterwards and throughout the day if you manage to pull this off everyday.)

This dude ran the Boston marathon nearly naked including no shoes:

I've never gotten a blister on my foot ever in my life, so I couldn't help you there. I think it is because I used to always be barefoot in Louisiana summers on black top roads.

I'll be honest, I only got these shoes because they could connect to my phone and it was neato. When I was in the Marines and had to run a minimum of 3 miles just about every morning, I was generally running in some really cheap stuff and it was perfectly fine. And by cheap, I mean I probably spent like $40 on a pair of running shoes.

If you're running for staying in shape, just go to a store and try out some comfortable stuff, you can get that at nice prices.
