Everyone, 99% of players at least, is having big hope with ascension
I'm one of the few to say: careful, it's not that simple, there's not + without its - in SIMU's mind. They want you to be excited while nerfing you in the ass in the meantime.

Most important aspect in my mind is the 2x spell aim for semis. It's so going to move the shift in semis to be like cleric for some spells (309 - 320), i.e. a mix of spells + spell aim to have a decent attack
I forsee 1030, 616 and some big paladins to go that road. I forsee they will leave weaker version of spells to be not spell aimed.
And then with ascension, players gonna have so much to do to get that juicy +5 here or there and needing like 30 more millions of exp, why not coconut some paid RPA orbs? LOL

And Naijin wants more spells like 309-320, where open rolls WILL be the major feature. Eventually, we will see a 5% death rate for like all spells / maneuvers casted by critters. That's fun balancing, huh?
WHY not having some courage, releasing savants and doing a rebalancing of spell circles tabarnak instead?

Squares: only 1 circle of magic (either minor spirit, minor mental or minor elemental)
Boom, like rolemaster. Then you rebalance all spells to be either more self cast or having even more lore dependancy to be casted at others.
tl;dr for the methais of heart: Simu is nerfing players in the name of balance and will release ascension to have more p2w dependancies

per design, monks were semis with their own magical spell
i.e. enhancing / hasting / healing own spell circle.
Simu fucked it up cause they wanted those juicy SK :P Move monks to semis like they should be, move some CMAN there as it should be, bang.

Wasn't part of the idea of migrating from GS3 to GS4 the reduction of allowing so many outside spells being cast upon other players because at the highend of the game was becoming too hard to balance out new creatures/hunting areas. So during the change over a lot of spells had duration times cut down to 1 minute (wall of force and wizard sphere, for example) to become a quick DS boost for some slightly added protection here and there. And other spells were outright removed from being able to cast upon anyone to selfcast only.
They wanted better control of end game balance so they could design new creatures/hunting areas where you wouldn't get some creatures with stupidly high DS because someone walks in with 1000 AS as a weapon swinger so no other class could touch them with AS based attacks. Or having to artificially boost TD and CS due to everyone and their mom's using every single spell available for protection.
Then comes along DR as the idea of shifting to a pay event appears to be lucrative when compared to Box Office Events of the past. They need to keep adding ideas and pretty soon SK spells are coming out - sure, they start out at 1x/day, but then you can start to combine them. Then also the addition of ensorcell which flares AS/CS or boosts TD....not to mention the several recreations of the enchanting spell to make enchanting lots of items easire....plus the addition of enhancives and now with monks adding tattoos....let's not forget the change over for allowing multiple types of padding/weighting/flares/scripts on almost every single weapon/armor/shield out there.....now we appear to be back to the days of GS3 where a lot of people have access to every spell under the sun with equipment that makes them pretty much untouchable for AS/DS/TD/CS based attacks.
The only way to balance out things is to shift into the RNG of open roll deaths. Sure, Bob can get his AS/DS/TD/CS to astronomical heights and become untouchable that way and kill any creatures....but that SMRv2 is a bitch. Open roll! Ha, you died Bob. Suck it, bitch. Oh, what's that Bob? You're upset that a handful of creatures can get really lucky and kill you? We'll fix that, we'll adjust a lot of spells and creatures to use SMRv2 so more can get lucky and kill you! HAHAHA.

And I repeat, Naijin is COMPLETELY in adoration with RNG (open rolls) to determinate outputs. Why? You summarized it well again: Bypass all toys.
What's the point of toys, you may ask?

Monks and paladins were FINALLY having some good synergy with Stam build + MoC.
What they did AFTER making available so much enhancives? BOOM. Nerf stam recovery.
Reasons: MoC WAS NOT DESIGNED TO BE USABLE EVERYTIME. For real! They said that!

Naijin lost me with the ranged changes, because the end result is still, “If you want that +15 AS back, get ready to fork over some cash.” and using a QoL buff as justification for it + more nerfs (slash damage) is laughable. But Simu knows how dumb and gullible the player base is overall, so who can blame them when cash is their primary motivation?
Most if not all significant mechanics changes, class/spell reviews, etc., will just be a Trojan horse to nerf something and then sell it back to you for cash while trying to convince you that you got buffed.
I predict that Ascension will be really bad about this too...nerf X ability, “fix” it via Ascension, all while selling exp badges and RPA orbs and whatnot.
Simu did say that P2W won’t be involved in Ascension, but pushing sales of exp boosters will the loophole used to get around it.
Here’s another big shocker: Naijin also wants to nerf Rapid Fire, which already got nerfed into the ground almost 6 years ago. He also wants to nerf Haste effects too, if I remember correctly.

Most of the people on the officials and Discord are fucking idiots who will literally advocate for their own profession to get nerfed and somehow convince themselves that it’s a net gain, just before pitching 9483748 equally shitty ideas, so there’s that to consider.
Knowing how full of shit dev is about most things and how P2W motivated they are, this is probably just another roadblock to keep people “out” of ascension, while to incentivizing whatever P2W exp items they’ll almost definitely roll out at around the same time.

Simu can easily pay the bills with probably just 400 basic subscriptions combined between both Gemstone and Dragon Realms, and that's only because they have two paid employees. If they had to they would probably make Wyrom take over the customer service duties and could probably make due with just 200 basic subs. Simu ain't gotta worry about paying the bills at the moment, they just need to worry about increasing their profit year over year to make their new owners happy.

The only "bills" they have that wouldn't be able to be paid would be their decision to fund other games using GS as a money generator. GS itself is probably pretty damn cheap to maintain.

Gemstone could be operated with a burner phone and a bedroom closet. The biggest expense would be your ISP bill.
