Me too. Believe it or not I actually miss the politics folders from 5+ years ago. People got along a lot more, there were more jokes being thrown around, people weren't always so serious.

I'm not gonna pretend both sides aren't guilty of things changing from 5+ years ago, but it certainly didn't help that a sizeable portion of people on the left just degraded every conversation into "You're a racist!!!"

Tgo01, you’re not technically a stupid person. The way you write and your ability to grasp basic logic (from your Dreaven scripts) tells me that you just have never been educated properly. That is you either didn’t find it interesting or your cultural background conditioned you to hate yourself and thus put a limiter on what I percieve to be sizeable intellectual potential. I know you’re relatively poor that much is true.

On a personal note, I am absolutely floored on how people would vote directly against their (financial or otherwise) interests even when it’s mathmatically sitting in front of them. Criminal justice reform, workplace democracy, immigration reform, etc. are harder to concretely define and execute, so I'll ignore those things for now, but * for All is not something establishment Democrats (like Joseph Biden) are entertaining.

I obviously didn't say anything about your 78%/12% statistic you keep citing, because you brought it up afterward... so how, if you understand what reality is, could I have said there were multiple reasons for it and then backtracked? It's literally impossible. Time only moves forward.

Anyway, some other reasons why you can't compare New York City numbers and Texas numbers directly are demographics and population density. But a very big reason why you can't compare the mortality rate of two different strains of a virus should be pretty self explanatory.

That’s a fair point.
I was trying to find statistics of hunger pre-pandemic and during the pandemic, I can’t find that much information, but from what I could find, the amount of child hunger isn’t much higher than it was before, regarding the US.
I’ll try and do more research.

The US exports the most food in the world by far. Prices of food has already gone up in the US because of the lockdowns. Children are starving to death all over the world as a direct result of the shutdowns.

You can try to handwave this all away like you usually do but the proof is right there: the lockdowns have caused a lot of harm in the world and will continue to cause harm. Obviously another 4+ month lockdown will cause even more problems.

Well that's weird, whenever I go to the grocery stores near me they only ever have like half of the meat they usually did pre-shutdowns. The price of meat is about 50-100 cents more a pound where I live. Even shit like frozen Jack's pizzas that I used to stock up on like they were going out of business is only ever stocked maybe half the time I go to the store. I guess that's all just a coincidence and nothing to do with the supply chains being disrupted.

Is there where you are going to break out the definition of "disrupted."

The supply chain in the US has been pretty severely disrupted by changes in where the demand is. The food supply chain is very specialized. Companies like Sysco that mostly serve the food service industry (restaurants and cafeterias) are sucking air. Meanwhile, most large grocery chains have their own distribution systems, and they're scrambling to meet demand and more importantly changes in delivery. Everyone is trying to catch up to Amazon, and Amazon is going at a breakneck speed. Is this disruption caused by Covid-19? Partly yes, and the disruption that isn't caused by it has been accelerated by it.

Be that as it may, TG01's shortage anecdote is likely mostly caused by hoarding, as correctly identified by Solkern.

Toilet paper and paper towels haven't been a problem in my area for well over a month, I don't know how it is in larger cities though. Is toilet paper shortage still a thing?

Does it really matter if hoarding is the reason for increased food prices/low inventory if the the only reason people are hoarding is because of the fear induced by the shutdowns? Either way if shit is like this now 1-2 months post shutdowns can we really say shit wouldn't get even worse if we announced another 4+ month nationwide lockdown? I don't think the single mother trying to feed her 4 children is really going to care that the reason there is no food in stock is because of hoarding instead of because of a disruption to the food supply chain.

No one's dying of a food shortage in the US. I write 3 paragraphs of gold on how the food supply chain has been disrupted and you can't see it because you're fixated on the toilet paper anecdote. What you should do, is reread what I wrote, and go looking for innovative companies that are helping automate the supply chain and make it work more efficiently, and buy their stock. Then you can buy USDA prime T-bone steaks with the proceeds.

TLDR: we're not eating more or less, we're just eating (and shopping) in different places, and that has disrupted the food chain. Hoarding is a minor problem that is having very little real impact on supply.
