Here's the problem I have. I'm running an old ass computer. Somehow, when upgrading AOL ( yes I know, I know, my brother works for em so it's free for me ) to AOL 8.0, it started to download realplayer. Something happened, and now my sound won't work.

You'd think I could just wipe it and start fresh. I'm willing to do that, but here lies the problem. I JUST beat Baldur's Gate I, and I wanted to import my character from BG to Baldur's Gate 2. If I wipe the drive, I lose my character, which is pretty sad, but I'd rather play my character than need sound.

Can anyone think of a way I can possibly extract the character save file, wipe it and start over? I would really like to have sound again, because I've got a sirius subscription ID so I can listen to music. Any positive feedback is apprciated.

Easy dude. Just go to C:\Program Files\Black Isle\BG (or whatever it's called, I'm basing this off my BGII install) and save the "Characters" and "Save" folders. You're good to go afterwards.

I haven't installed 2 yet, want to get the sound issue taken care of first. I had this problem once before with another machine, when I went to reload the save files, it was a no-go.

Have you checked for sound drivers yet? Or tried to repair/update/rollback on the ones you have now?

Save the file from BG 1, then format, then install BG 1, copy the saved file to the appropriate dir overwritting the BG 1 clean file. Then install BG 2 and import your char. If you have your HDD partitioned just save it to D and format C, if not burn it to disk or email to me and I'll hold it for you.

If you want to try and troubleshoot first follow what Artha said. Reinstall your sound drivers and see if that corrects it.

Sorry for the major bump.

I got the sound issue taken care of, replaced the BG 1 saved game file, and installed BG 2. BG2 will not recognize BG1's saved games, nor will it give me a pathway to connect it.

Any ideas?

Install BG1, then dump the saved BG1 file down, then install BG2.

Already done. BG2 will not recognize it, even now.

I might just pull BG off the shelf. I'm extremely bored as of late.

I made a promise to myself I would play the Forgotten Realms games in order, once I've beaten the one before it. Between my career, kids, soon to be wife and crackstone....I'm JUST starting BG2. I've got Icewind Dale and NWN after this.
