Previously, daggers with the specific noun of "knife" received a higher bonus to skinning than any other item. We've just updated all daggers to receive this bonus instead so people are free to customize the appearance of their daggers as they choose.

The difference apparently was equivalent to 10 dex bonus for the skinning forumla. Ouch.

It's funny because they could have just made the change without telling anyone and no one would have been the wiser. To my knowledge everyone has always thought daggers gave you a boost but I don't think anyone ever dreamed the noun had to be "knife."

Maybe Simu will just start giving us formulas for all of these systems now. Heck it would be cool to actually see some of these formulas. Let us be able to toggle something so we can see the skinning formula every time we skin something.

Daggers have many uses aside from being merely weapons. ... They also serve as excellent tools for skinning critters.

I always thought it was a myth.

I still used a knife anyway.

In before waving cheese attracting rats and tapping coins spawning cave gnomes becomes reality.

Through meager testing years ago I suspected this, and have always used a trail knife from the stand in Solhaven NM for skinning. Nice to see it validated.

Extra spawning for this would be pretty awesome. And giving extra XP absorption for rubbing a smooth stone.

This blew my mind. I can't imagine how folks who have been playing 20+ years must feel with this mystery finally unveiled! In any event, glad I don't have to replace my trusty gold-pommeled vaalorn dagger.

Nice to see the development team making so many changes - big and small - this year.

My capped wizard has always used a knife when skinning - maybe that's why it's always felt he skinned better over similarly trained non-ranger characters I've played over the years.
