I've been on a shopping tear recently. Spent $400 at Express Men and another $250 at an independant shoe retailer in Santa Barbara. Not exactly what I should be doing months before I have to finance law school, but frugality is for the Republicans -- NOT!

Politics aside this thread is me bragging about my new shoes, which were complimented multiple times today. In addition I would like to know of any other Steve Madden-esque local brands you might know of. These are Medium's which are made in Santa Barbara. I'm sure a simple Google search will get you a link if you're so inclined. However, without further ado ....

What kind of shoes are those?!? :weird:

.

Meanwhile, I prefer the form of sneakers that goes up to my ankles at last, can't stand shoes as low (ankle-wise) as the one you pictured.

I prefer comfortable and durable shoes.

Oh yea, not "fugly" ones too... those you posted are a joke!

.

I also thought I'd never see the day of a man bragging/displaying his shoes on these boards, in a manner similiar to women's general fetish with theirs.

But then again, I never thought I'd see some of the threads I have seen on these boards either...

I would wear those..

On St. Patricks day.

Mostly because they are green, but also because I wouldn't give a shit if someone puked all over them and I had to throw them away after the night was done.

I'd wear those too if I didn't know what good boots were.

I got them when I was 16, and no, I did not know what good boots were. This does not mean I'm going to go out and spend more money on shoes when I have a perfectly good set.

I have shoes similiar to those, though it does not go up past the ankles, while yours seems to go further up towards the knees.

Been wearing the same pair of shoes now for about 2 years... they have proven to be rather durable and comfortable in all settings, nevermind solid footing.

Work, basketball, football, running, hiking... it performs well.

Yea, but it was one of my deceased father's favorite ties... so... sentimental reasons.

Meanwhile, I now have a better-paying and more enjoyable analyst position in a work environment that is "casual formal" so I no longer have to wear a suit/tie except for certain occassions with clients.

I probably should get around to updating that avatar at some point...

Nice shoes. Steve Madden is a good brand. Right now I'm in love with a pair of Diesel Izar I bought two weeks ago. They have sort of an odd look, different from my usual style but I'm liking them for now.

And that will always be the problem with buying shoes when you have better taste than just some random sneakers. You need always make sure you have an outfit! $100 shoes can easily run you $250+ if you're not careful!

Geez..
I just buy 2 new pairs at Kohl's a few times a year, spend $80 for both, and get to have a bunch.

I'd rather wear them out and get new ones more often.

03-29-2005, 12:51 PM
For like.. around the house wear MAYBE, as long as no one saw me, but I wouldn't be caught with anything from Kohl's in public.

I have a closet door COVERED in shoes plus three boxes (large boxes...not shoe boxes) of shoes and boots in my closet, yet I only wear one pair to work every day.

Now...all my shoe money goes for things for Jordyn. I just bought her a bunch of summer clothes complete with a cute little pair of sandals. She's not even 1 yet and she already has about 9 or 10 pairs of shoes herself.

Now, that is just ridiculous!

Shoes are for their utility, not appearance. Sneakers for running, formal/casual for work, loafers for the house.

It's absurd to design an outfit around what shoes you're wearing.

You wear shoes for their purpose!

.

Besides, I'm always telling the ladies, when they get on about their shoes... "what's the deal with your shoes, I'm always going to be looking at your face or chest... why in the world would I look at your feet?!"

Just wear something skimpy and all is good! :smug:

Seeing how I had four differnt girls compliment my shoes yesterday alone, I'm going to side with Arkans on the issue.

Shoes are for utility, but that does not mean they don't have to look good while you're wearing them. This is something most men living outside of cities don't understand.

There is nothing wrong with looking good. I'm sure it's the exact same reason you go to the gym. Anyone who hates has some issues with their own self-confidence.

It'd be totally different if you had 14 different first edition pairs of Nike Air Force One's -- but that's a different story.

brown-ish casual dress shoes
black formal dress shoes

Probably should get a new pair of boots, for the winter/muddy season here in Michigan, but my normal shoes has sufficed as a substitution, and remains in excellent condition.

As for summer beaches and walking on the grass.. I go barefoot.. I'm not the sandles sort.

That would be incorrect.

I need 2 pairs of shoes for work. Brown shoes do NOT go with a black suit.. and vica versa. Also, if you wear leather work shoes, it's always a good idea to have 2 pairs so that you can allow time for 'airing out' so you won't have bad foot odor.

I need 3 pairs of sneakers.. one to play basketball in (ankle support) one to do anything else in (crosstrainers) and one to do lawn / garden work in.

Golf shoes because playing golf in regular sneakers is so not cool.

Timberlands to do work like construction and home projects in.

Casual black shoes because they go with my casual wear.

Mandals because they just are comfortable as all hell. Who the fuck would wear sneakers to the beach??

Dock shoes I've had for probably 10 years. They are perfectly worn in now.

Hunting boots because no one wants to get blood and guts on their good shoes. You also can't wear regular white sneakers because everything will see you.

Cowboy boots were my late uncles and I just have them in my closet. I think I've worn them a total of 3 times in the past 2 years.

Water shoes when I go jetskiiing or to a water park with my kids.

I also forgot to add a pair of black spikes for flag football.. which I haven't played in 2 years. :(

Since I have more than 6 pairs and have been married for 12 years and have zero interest in the cock.. your assumption would be entirely incorrect.

I play football, basketball, and tennis. I also swim regularly (when the weather is warm) in the pool or at the beach. I currently still do play in local intramural leagues regularly.

So, you would be incorrect in your assumption that I do not engage in sports. You also obviously skimmed my earlier posts where I did specify playing sports wearing my primary shoes.

I play all of those with my primary shoes, which provides excellent footing on the grass, hardwood, or aspalt. I also feel that my overall ability has improved somewhat due to the consistency provided by the one pair of shoes for the same kind of footing (as opposed to having to readjust for each different kind of shoe).

.

Meanwhile, I have several different full business suits. I just simply wear the same black shoes, or the brown-ish casual shoes. Besides, the cuffs of the pants covers 1/3 of the shoes, and your feet are under the desks/table. It's not revelant.

Girls seem to like/approve of my shoes. Haven't had one in person tell/suggest getting a different pair...

... which is why I do not have the urge to go out and get 10 different pairs of shoes.

This doesn't surprise me as I lived in Holland, MI for four years. I think the two cultured areas of MI are Ann Arbor and Detroit.

Out of curiosity, do you live in the UP?

Girls, in general, will not say anything negative about your clothing unless it is really bad. When you ask one out for a date and they say they are busy for the next 6 months, THEN you MIGHT want to reconsider your appearance.

Sorry.. you lose big time. No athlete would wear the same pair of sneakers he walks around town in to play basketball, football and tennis in.

And you don't wear casual shoes with a business suit.

So in conclusion.. you suck at sports and you are a terrible dresser. Anything else you want to come clean with while you are here?

Heck no.

Suburban metro-detroit.

Though my neighborhood is rather affluent, so I can guarantee that the local girls have at least 15 pairs of shoes on average, easily.

They're not boots...

I'd say they're more of a hybrid with cleat-like features.

Edited to add: I also suffer a lot less when other players step/land on them (did I hate it when that happen when wearing flimsy snearkers when younger).

Hey, it works! I definately don't "skid" as much...

and I as just pointed out in my edit... I don't have to worry about others stepping/landing on my feet.

Meanwhile, I really do need to bow out of this topic at some point... Bah!

It'd be totally different if you had 14 different first edition pairs of Nike Air Force One's -- but that's a different story.

What the fuck does that mean? It takes skills to match the color treads into the trim of the outfit.

Well lets see...

Vans: Worn soles for weekend goof offs.

Airwalks: Kicks still look new. Weekend gear.

Ryders: Brazilian mandals. Worn in the house. Depending on the weather, weekends.

Keneth Cole: Dressy shiny black leather slip-on square toe. Look nice but hurt like a vice. Also have a pair of casual soft black leather. Reaction with the red leather interior.

Johnson, Murphy & Backlash: Simple black dress shoe.

Clarkes: Brown dress/casual monkstrap.

Steve Madden: Brown leather sneaker. Not really crazy about them. Haven't worn them in a long time. Love my kicks.

Sandro: Picked up some dressier brown gel soles tonight.

9 pairs of shoes. Well shit, I live in the DC/Metro area. But I also got a good corporate job.

Once, I owned Sketchers. They looked nice but fucked my feet up so bad I will never buy them again, and tell everyone I know they suck ass.

I have a pair of basketball/tennis shoes for sports which I pretty much wear all the time now.

Doc Marten's which I wear when something dressier than normal is called for or I don't feel like wearing...

A pair of shitty Pay Less boots that are all torn up.

Other than the color, I like the sneakers. Green is a nice color, just not my choice for shoes. Even if they're khaki green, which is one of my favorite colors.

These are the shoes I usually wear (no jpg, I never did figure out how to upload them to this forum):

http://www.naot.com/cgi-bin/WMN.pl?action=show_sub&sub_1=SAN&sub_2=

From the Elegant Collection: Holly
From the Women's Floral Collection all the way down at the bottom: Lilac

For sneaks, I wear Easy Spirit leather walking shoes.

For boots I wear a gorgeous pair of ropers by a company called Justin:

http://www.ssaddle.com/roper%20boots.htm

Except mine are in a dark tan and not black cherry.

For formal or dressup I wear capezio character shoes without the taps attached.

Summer shoes:

1 pair pink flip flops with stuffed frogs attached
1 pair black flip flops with sequin things on the, uh, straps?
3 pairs black open toed flats
1 pair dark brown work sandals
1 pair dark brown play sandals
1 pair tan sandals
1 pair of strange uncomfortable flat flip-flop type shoes Mom brought me from Key West
2 pairs black strappy heels
1 pair white strappy heels
3 or 4 pairs random slip on beach type shoes

Others:
1 pair obnoxious green old school Docs
1 pair brown Rockport boots (Iowa winters suck)
1 pair dark brown Doc boots
1 pair tan Doc shoes (I went through a doc phase? Plus, Von Maur back room = 75% off =)
Khacki and bright orange shoes (no clue on brand, not really tennis shoes, terribly obnoxious)
2 pairs black work shoes
1 pair brown work shoes
1 pair tan work shoes
1 pair black leather boots
2 pairs of sneakers

Jorddyn, needs to stop shopping

You should try shining those.

My latest footwear aquisition:

All white shell toe adidas golf cleats. Damn these are some pimp kicks for the links. Can't wait.

Only the toes and heels are hard leather, enough to shine that is. I do hope that was sarcasm coming from a somebody in the marines who do not even shine boots anymore. I can't wait until we follow suit. (they are as reflected as patten leather. I am told every day that I have "Purdy Boots.")

Shoes owned:
1 pair black strappy heels
1 pair black dress shoes
2 pairs navy flats
2 pairs brown suede heels
1 pair white sandals
1 pair navy suede sandals
1 pair brown suede sandals (have walked holes in the soles, should be in trash)
1 pair snow boots

Shoes actually worn:
1 pair brown hiking boots

I have slowly grown to appreciate the joy that is nice-looking shoes, but the fact remains that I don't drive, and any shoe that can't hold up under lots of walking (see brown sandals, above) is going to primarily live in my bag, to be switched on and off for short periods of time as needed.

Okay I have a shoe question for the Women here... What is with the wicked witch of the west shoes that a lot of women wear... you know the ones with the super pointed toes?

Satira
04-04-2005, 11:14 PM
They tell shorter women, or women without very long legs to wear those because it makes you look taller and therefor elongates your body making you look thinner.

I love shoes and purses. But you'll never see me spend a TON of money on them. I don't ever remember paying more than 95 dollars for shoes...and those were tennis shoes that I'd wear for one or two years.

I prefer sandals.

04-04-2005, 11:19 PM
