Got the new Dell.

Giving old computer to my Grandma, but instead of the Win98 that was currently on the old PC, I installed the XP Home that came with my new Dell.

Authentication, blah blah blah. Searched the net, found what I thought was a solution found here (http://home.att.net/~nogoodpig/).

It worked.... for a little while. XP Installed fine and didn't prompt me for activation until I actually set it up over at my grandparents house.

Now, before I get the "fuck you, you're pirating" comments, I can get a copy of Home without a problem. The computer for them was a last minute thing and I wanted to have it by Easter.

My company gives employees a copy of any Microsoft Office product once a year. I can get a copy of XP Home.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience in changing the XP Key (to a legit one) in order to do a correct authenication through Microsoft.

I'll also take any tips about bypassing authentication, strictly for research purposes. :saint:

::edited to add that it's XP Home w/ SP2, and no Bob, borrowing your copy of WinME is not a good solution::

Like two years ago I had to change a Windows CD key. I asked around and someone sent me a link to a tutorial/program that does it.

I'll see if I can find out for you.

Macs also eat dick.

I think Wezas prefers his computers dick eating free.

I just call and tell them that I had to format my computer and then it's all good.

Whats the actual problem? Perhaps I missed something but the website you posted linked you here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q328874 which Microself tells you how to change your key and when you activate if you do it by phone and give them the information with a legal key (which you have using your Dell information).
