Got the new Dell.
Giving old computer to my Grandma, but instead of the Win98 that was currently on the old PC, I installed the XP Home that came with my new Dell.
Authentication, blah blah blah. Searched the net, found what I thought was a solution found here (http://home.att.net/~nogoodpig/).
It worked.... for a little while. XP Installed fine and didn't prompt me for activation until I actually set it up over at my grandparents house.
Now, before I get the "fuck you, you're pirating" comments, I can get a copy of Home without a problem. The computer for them was a last minute thing and I wanted to have it by Easter.
My company gives employees a copy of any Microsoft Office product once a year. I can get a copy of XP Home.
I'm just wondering if anyone has had experience in changing the XP Key (to a legit one) in order to do a correct authenication through Microsoft.
I'll also take any tips about bypassing authentication, strictly for research purposes. :saint:
::edited to add that it's XP Home w/ SP2, and no Bob, borrowing your copy of WinME is not a good solution::
