Done yours yet? Getting bent-over? Getting Christmas early?

I seriously thought about writing “I’m not paying for this war.” on my tax return until I saw how much I was getting back. I think thats fair.

I’ve done them myself in the past, before I owned, but this time I went with a preparer. It was worth the money and will probably go with him again next year. That is, if I don’t sell and blow the country first.

Whats your tax story?

85% of what we've payed was refund.

I've payed, personally, more than 3,500$

$1500 back.
I'm not so good at saving money, so I make sure it works out like that.

For some reason, I'm getting half the amount I got last year. Made about the same amount of money, too. I asked for tax advice a month ago, but no one loves me enough to try to think of a reason why.

I got back nearly $1k. Not bad for only having been working for 5 months.

I owe 700, even though I built a house this year. I fucked up somewhere. I think I'm gonna redo them and claim my business lunches, miles on my car, etc. I'm not payin extra!

Paying 3500 in taxes is the direct result of not making much money to begin with, especially in Canada. You need a better job. A non-frenchman job.

This year I'm getting back a shade under 11,000. Normally I would owe, but thanks to W, I can withhold RSU's and other withheld stock benefits until they actually vest or I sell (extra beneficial to me because UPS stock has taken a bit of a dive recently, meaning my options are worth Xcalibur's IQ + Keller's IQ), and its worth it because the capitals gains tax is so much damn smaller.

Last year, I ended up owing about 1,400.

Ohh yeah, owing taxes is great knowing I'm gonna get fired soon too.

We had our taxes done by the end of January. Got $1400.00 and change back, and I didn't see a dime of it. I left my husband a few days after we did them. Leaving him was better than getting tax money.

I got a shade under 9K back. I know, I know.. I'm stupid. I don't need to hear it. If I was smart, I would have the correct amount of taxes taken out of my check and then invest that money instead of giving it to the US Government tax free for a year. I claim married 0 so I know I will always get a big tax refund which I use as a pseudo savings account.

Going to get mine done on Wednesday. My mom has an accountant she's worked with for years who does my taxes free of charge.

I did have a question though. I've had an account at Legg Mason for 15+ years. When I was old enough it was switched into my name.

For the past 3 years I've received statements on time, but when I don't see any tax forms from them, I give them a call. I keep getting the same answer - not enough activity to warrant a tax form.

Looking at my last statement (Oct - Dec) it earned over $2k. It's called a "Value Trust Equity Fund".

Should I start asking for a fax of something that says it didn't earn enough to be taxed (in case I ever get audited) or should I take this firm's word for it?

In Canada, the more you earn, the more you pay.

And our taxes system here is even worse.

Hopefully, I'm smart and I get a lot of refunds:cool:

I think his point was that $3500 is peanuts to pay in income taxes.

I haven't done my taxes yet but I will this weekend. I do my own taxes. I am a partner in my firm (i.e. part owner) so I qualify for a ton of right offs, additionally I reduce my income tax burden by splitting my income between salary and getting the rest from dividends from shares in the company, which are taxed at a lower rate.

In Canada every dollar earned from salary above $52 500 is taxed at a rate of 50%. Right offs and dividends are the only to survive in Canada.

If you can't survive at 50 g's a year, something is seriously wrong with you.

I'm going to file mine tonight, and as it stands currently I'm still getting bent over and taking it dry. Basically I have to pay the government an entire paycheck. I love being working class.......

Such bullshit too considering I always claim 0 and 0, built a house and have been paying pretty much solid interest on the bitch, etc.

If you are claiming single 0.. and having to pay... you are doing something incorrect. Either you are getting some other financial benefit and not paying the taxes on it or you are not claiming single 0.

That's what I'm saying too but apparently there are more people on welfare that I need to support or something so I have to give more money.

I got the 62" of that TV and I've been very happy with it so far. My only complaint is that Direct TV needs to have more than 8 HD stations (Not including their premier channels like HBO)

Sportcenter on HD is the fucking bomb.

Eat shit and die. I built my house last year and even after some "creative" number crunching and some gifts I made to some charities.... I still owed 608 dollars.

So yeah at 11:57PM I was at the post office dropping off my stuff. I almost thought I wouldn't make it because of the Pacer game downtown and traffic was retarded.

All and all I have to say that I was bent over and forced to take it dry.

Basically I was told it was due to the fact that I made 20k more in '04 than '03. And I was told that my '05 return should be much better because of something about the house I don't know. All I know is I'm going to spend the next month not being able to play golf because of my stupid taxes.

I feel you. Had to give over a decent chunk to the state of MD for some reason... even though thats where I spend most of my money. (Sales Tax)

But you could look at it this way. You are earning 20k more this year. Thats not too shabby.

What was that site you bought from again? I want to check because Best Buy has a sale this weekend that includes a home entertainment system. (Surround 5 DvD player, tuner, speakers) Supposedly they’ll match the price.
