Since the thread points to my old explanation of the Mechanical quiver, I think the explanation needs to be updated post-Archery changes. Kind of.

The basic mechanics of the mechanical quiver are absolutely the same. Put in shafts, turn crank, get arrows. Now however, the arrows that you get have unique, explosive arrowheads.

The shafts that you put into the quiver determine the type of ammunition made. Want bolts? Put in bolt shafts.

67 Shafts will produce 998 arrows. The same 15:1 as fletchings.
These arrows get the element of the spell cast at the quiver, retroactively. So for instance, your quiver is set to lightning, create a stack, cast acid at the quiver, now the arrows you previously created are acid.
Each elemental flare contains 2 elemental flare rounds: The standard e-blade style flare as a chance occurrence, and then a greater elemental flare guaranteed. However, this does explode the arrow, so I do not believe it will work with Dislodge.
In addition to the elements, the quiver can also be set to bless. This just enables all arrows to be blessed and able to hit undead as long as the arrows have the exploding arrowheads.

You can still put in paint into the quiver and get the painted arrows, and now they also have the unique exploding arrowheads. The unique arrowheads are essentially a replacement to the old 'spiral' identifier on the shaft.

Other notes is that MFire does suppress flares. However, this does create one of the most OP builds: Mechanical quiver and 2x Hand Crossbow.
