Another near death, saved by my breastplate
A war griffin swoops down over you, buffeting you with its wings!
One of the griffin's wings swats the side of your head with a stinging blow, and you reel as stars appear before your eyes!
Roundtime: 10 sec.
look
A war griffin opens its mouth and releases a shrill screech!
A greater construct ignores the terrible screech!
A twinge of fear starts to rise in your stomach, but you control the instinctive urge to freeze.
A greater construct swings its arms together in an attempt to trap you! Encircled by the two massive arms, you are unable to slip out and are crushed between them.
... 26 points of damage!
Hard strike to your right leg breaking tendons and bone!
You are knocked to the ground!
You are stunned for 6 rounds!
[Old Ta'Faendryl, Market Road]
The road moves north and south between broken mounds of dirt and stone that mark out a boundary along the edges of two wide plazas on either side of the road. Unusually straight cracks and an occasional gleam of grey peeping through the dirt indicates the presence of cracked granite blocks buried beneath the soil. You also see a greater construct, a curved silvery blade, a twisted crystal-tipped staff, a curved silvery blade, a war griffin that is flying around, the Medi disk, a twisted crystal-tipped staff, a curved silvery blade and a gleaming steel broadsword.

Psh, having good armor is the difference between dying, and staying in the hunting area longer. Good armor is more important than a decent shield or weapon, for a square atleast. Plus, you've got no chance of losing it via curse or disarm.

I've probably saved between 80-100 deeds, at about an average of 5-7k per deed. Total savings, about 500k. Empath savings maybe another 500k.
Total winnings from the kill the Tamral contest, which only three people (reife, some mage, and gaq) won, about 1M.

X, last time the British and French went directly to war, there was a clear winner. And it wasn't the French.
The French allied themselves with the native Indians in America, and combined they couldn't win. In fact, even in WW2, it wasn't until France had surrendered from the alliance and washed their own lame asses away from the allies, that the allies were able to win.
Xcalibur

Any country in France's position in WW2 would had lost as the Nazi were completely ahead in their time.

I remember something about the US making carnage in their own land against their own people because of a small difference of concepts (something about slavery, mostly).
France's revolution was more than that, dude, it was the begining of the end of the monarchy for most countries.

X, you really don't understand much about the American Civil War (expected). Let me educate you.
The war was not fought mostly because of slavery. It was because the South wanted more state's rights so they could regulate taxes and tariffs that were really making southern economy suffer. Slavery was a back drop, if anything.
That is really the basic and bare bones reasons of our civil war.
- Arkans
Xcalibur
03-27-2005, 11:03 PM
I added a "s" to concepts for a reason. I still ain't an expert about the US's civil war. Still, it was a war of a country split in half for reasons that was totally stupid.
So anyone from that said country cannot judge another country that did around the same mistakes.

SO that would justify, I think, every damn country into spliting themselves in half and waging war against the other part.
Last I remember, Bush won his election by a slight majority.
Does that allow the other half to take arms and wage war against the others?
The US did one of the stupidiest thing ever made in the history of mankind, and they did it LATELY.

And the US got Vietnam?
US thought they could be better than France in that region and failed too.
Still, they had the best weaponry available.

I chose those two specific examples because I thought they exemplified each country's actions during war rather well.
Thermopylae -- 300 Spartans, tens of thousands of Persians. The Spartans, led by Leonidas, managed to hold their own in a gap against ridiculous odds to allow their allies to retreat, but were slaughtered to a man.
Dien Bien Phu -- French troops with superior supplies, training, and equipment get routed by Viet guerrillas with no formal war training.
Losing an election and what happened back then is completely different, X.

And for the record, the United States did infinitely better than the French in Vietnam. They had completely different reasons to be there, one to aid in freedom (supposedly) and the other to maintain control of a group of people.
Keep in mind that even in the Tet Offensve, the Americans still inflicted well over 3x the number of casualties against the Vietnamese than the other way around.

US with their big arrogant attitude and their big guns came and tried to show the world how the REAL thing is.
They lost.
I think Edaarin was trying to show something along those lines.
I don't have any specific battle name though about US vs Viets.

How many aircraft carriers was around to support the war?
Battleships? ...
Yeah, they did well, they had the mean, they had the reasons, yet, they lost.
When I hear someone shitting on France's military, I just happen to remember those things..

Are we looking at length of conflict too? Off the top of my head I'm remembering vaguely 50-60,000 dead and around 200,000 wounded Americans in the entire conflict. I have no idea what the hell France's numbers were, or how long they were there. But that doesn't negate all the other losses you've had in the past.

Ok X lets assume that the US got their asses handed to them in Vietnam for your sake just so you'll shut the fuck up about it. How in any way shape or form does that make France not suck dick? Let me know when you figure that out. BTW saying that we can't say you suck because we lost is a logical Fallacy.

Take it elsewhere. Make a topic about whatever it is you're all going on about this was(until it got the ever living shit derailed out of it) a thread about your good armor saving your ass in a hunt. If you've got shots/logs of surviving where you should have died due to your armor or gear post it up, if not please proceed to shut the hell up.

I don't have any shots offhand, but I hardly ever take more than a minor in my armor when I get call winded in front of a swarm in OTF. It's saved my ass a million times, the bloodloss still sucks, but hardly ever getting stunned, and being able to take 175 endrolls for a minor is a life saver.

Alright.. this just happened a minute ago, but it shows what I was talking about:
A war griffin flaps its mighty wings rapidly, creating a powerful gust of wind that buffets the area!
The wind knocks you off your balance and you fall over!
Your arms are forced down to your sides!
Roundtime: 12 sec.
The wind then subsides.
An Ithzir scout fades into view while striking!
An Ithzir scout swings a gleaming steel broadsword at you!
AS: +412 vs DS: +369 with AvD: +36 + d100 roll: +20 = +99
A clean miss.
A war griffin swoops down from high overhead!
A war griffin tries to spear you with its beak!
AS: +444 vs DS: +362 with AvD: +33 + d100 roll: +54 = +169
... and hits for 24 points of damage!
Your left leg jerks momentarily.
An Ithzir scout's voice sounds as if he is speaking through a long metal tube as he cocks his head, saying, "Pa letthe, isonna ytrak ka patrabi maktali cra!"
The Ithzir scout laughs.
An Ithzir scout swings a gleaming steel broadsword at you!
AS: +412 vs DS: +360 with AvD: +36 + d100 roll: +86 = +174
... and hits for 24 points of damage!
Blow leaves an imprint on your chest!
A war griffin tries to bite you!
AS: +450 vs DS: +357 with AvD: +30 + d100 roll: +23 = +146
... and hits for 22 points of damage!
Quick slash catches your cheek!
Dimples are always nice.
An Ithzir scout swings a gleaming steel broadsword at you!
AS: +412 vs DS: +352 with AvD: +36 + d100 roll: +98 = +194
... and hits for 29 points of damage!
Slash to your left leg hits high!
Kinda makes your knees weak, huh?
