Howdy yall,

My wizard is having difficulties with UAC in the early years. UAF is low, defense is low, but haste is amazing. Do you recommend using shields at all, at least until I gather enough spells to compensate? Do you recommend any other physical skills alongside UAC outside of shield use?

Any help is much appreciated.

Are you attending Dreavenings in the landing where you get a full set of all possible defensive spells? I use only UAC on all of my characters without any shield what so ever and I typically have no problem with DS at all. Currently I've taken my ranger from 0-12 doing just this.

With a full Dreavening, I can usually uphunt by 2-4 levels depending on what I'm hunting. But even with just a normal spellup from a wizard, I don't think I'd have much trouble hunting at my level. Also keep in mind it's perfectly fine to hunt things 2-3 levels below you as well. Much lower than that and the experience you earn off of each critter really starts to fall off I think.

Are you using enchanted gear? Sairai's player shop in Landing (lich room# 367, a large brick-faced store) keeps in stock 1x-4x armors at extremely cheap prices. And they've got all the standard armors you'd want.

Are you using small statues? Easy +25 to DS.

To increase your UAF, have an older wizard cast 902 at you twice while you're holding your gloves and again when you're holding your boots. It makes the gear 3x that you can hold no matter what level you are. Although you are a wizard and can do this yourself, having an older wizard do it just adds a lot more to the duration of the magic.

Seems you've been around PC a bit longer than me, so maybe you already know all of this. I wasn't sure, so I thought I'd mention it.

Don't know how old your UAC wizard is, but it can certainly be done, my UAC wizard is about to hit 70 and I know someone has a capped UAC wizard. Make sure you are 1x in Brawl and Combat maneuvers. Make sure you are 1X in minor so you get 425 at 25 then I try to get one spell in major and wizard alternating, master a society as quickly as possible, mine is GoS, he was Voln unti about 50 and I switched him, don't do that it sucks then. Pick one, master and stay, he dies A LOT mastering Sunfist at 50. Make use of 909 with evoke, my hot key is setup when I attack to trigger stomp first so it looks like this stomp\rcombo\r Oh, make sure you are using combo. Armor is a real quandry, mine is in reinforced, because 2% was all the hindrance I was willing to put up with, doubles or even breastplate would be a HUGE upgrade but then you will miss celerity a lot more. Finally be on the lookout for brawl, strength and agility enhancives, even small amounts of each help tremendously. I think my brawl ranks are up by about 40% with the enhancives I have cobbled together. That is about all I can think of for now.

Pre-20 use the instant skill migration to cast extra spells for defense.

After 20 you should have 1x MnE to get 430, and 9 ranks in MjE with 11-13 in Wiz for defense. Once you have 913, 430, double up on MjE to get 520 ASAP, then back to Wiz to get 919. You shouldn't have much DS issue. Grab a charged small statue and you'll be fine.

Eventually you'll be running 919 (50s), but most of the time it won't be needed. Just don't expect to be great at enchanting. The priorities are MnE to 30, MjE to 20, Wiz to 19, MjE to 1x, MnE to 77, Wiz to 125 (way post cap).

Thank you for the specific training advice - I think that was more of what I was looking for.

Do you have any issues with your UAF at cap not being able to hit certain creatures at all? Does maxed out 425 make it a moot point?

At cap you're going to need to be geared out to the max. 902 evoke on BOTH gloves & boots maintained, I run with 37 str/agi enhancives and +46 brawling. My UAF is 550 with 211 going, and that hits everything just fine (8x gloves, 7x boots). If you don't gear up like crazy, you can still hit things, but you're going to take longer.

There's an extra wizard-self-cast-only thing that gets you an extra +10 skill (more with butt loads of earth lore) when you evoke 902

Check out the 902 wiki. It's a self cast enhancive. Stull subject to the enhancive limit. For UAC you need to use evoke 902 on both gloves and boots or you will only get the bonus on part of your attacks (i.e. not on boots, your UAF for kicks will be lower).

I would say where has that been the last couple of years but I am sure it is my fault for not reading it. My UAC is now 549, and I saw a 559 for the esorcel, so I am pretty happy with his abilities, I was happy before and am even more happy now and I went and raised my bards orb stash and made a bunch of 211 and 307 gems to get it to 549. I have a few heroism scrolls, but going to have my friends sorc work on those before I use them. Between the heroism and phoen strength scrolls 585 should be about my max without more earth lore. At least for now.

I have an item with that in it, sadly it is only merchant rechargeable and it seems like the one item you need to make it mage rechargeable only drops like 1 time in a billion, or worse. I am sure it shows up on scrolls but I have never actually found one.

I am not sure why I even care to much since he always hunts with my capped pure wizard and other than an unlucky cast by a greater water elemental or a triton sentry, everything in Nelemar dies pretty quickly. Although when it comes to Duskruin, everything helps.
