Before this Karri pointed this person out, she cried and Karri was just playing around and and by accidently killed him. Anyway, I hadn't done anything before this other then make one comment about someone being ugly. This was in the cul-de-sac so......

A quick flick of Karri's wrist sends a crimson feathered invar dart into flight!
Karri throws a crimson feathered invar dart at Valania!
AS: +35 vs DS: +42 with AvD: +35 + d100 roll: +97 = +125
... and hits for 8 points of damage!
Minor puncture to the left leg.

** Karri's feathered invar dart flares with a burst of flame! **
... 20 points of damage!
Nasty burns to left leg. Gonna need lots of butter.

* Valania drops dead at your feet!

Suddenly there is an uproar, with people screaming, "Murderer! Quickly, someone call for the constable!"
Suddenly the town constable, supported by a sizeable posse, comes riding up!
The constable says, "So dere ya are Karri! We've a warrant for yar arrest. Now come 'long quietly or we'll hang ya right where ya stand."
With that, the deputies wrestle Karri to the ground, chain her and lift her onto a horse.
Without any hesitation the posse rides off with their prisoner.
The feathered invar dart flips over, landing behind Valania.
>
You feel your extra strength departing.
* Valania is off to a rough start! She just bit the dust!
The field mouse darts all around, generally being a great nuisance.

I have to thank you all for killing my new character. So here it is. Thanks! Yes, I am the soul behind Valania and it's really sad you guys resort to that kind of shit. She is level one and no threat except having an IC attitude. I'll post my own log of what happened. Edited to remove all the needless crap. Have fun reading.

*It's rather long*

You attempt to blend with the surroundings and feel confident that no one has noticed your doing so.
You say, "Sleeping here. Let me rest."

Broken bottles, discarded rubbish, and uneasy feelings pervade this dank, ill-lit dead end. Sintik roars!
Camri stares off into space.
Sintik yells, "And stay stunned!"
Sintik returns to normal speed.
Karri comes out of hiding.
Karri searches around for a moment.
Camri begins chuckling at Sintik!
You hear Staerin yell, "Never!"
You say, "Which was my intent until your tongue made comments."
Camri says, "Oh, please hush"
You hear someone humming softly to himself in the shadows.
Camri says, "Come out Carrot"
The mouse seems to relax somewhat.

You hear the voice of Staerin say, "I'm not old"
You stare at Karri.
You hear the voice of Staerin vividly accusing the gods of shoddy workmanship when it came time to create Karri.
You say, "You are disgusting."
Karri searches around for a moment.
The mouse peers intently at you.
There is a twinkle in a field mouse's eyes for a moment.
Sintik loses some awareness.
Karri stares at you.
Sintik says, "Ye be ugly"
Sintik nods to you.
The field mouse sits down.
Camri says, "Karri isn't disgusting"
You say, "And when I care what you think. I still will not let you know.."
You wave a hand at Sintik, dismissing him indifferently.
Camri gazes in wonder at her surroundings.
Sintik chuckles.
Karri darkly asks, "One of such unpure blood as yours calls me digusting?"
You hear the voice of Staerin ask, "She cares what you think... you hear that?"
You hear someone snicker.
Karri grunts, amused.
Camri grins.
Draupnir just arrived.
You say, "My blood might be tainted but you are an abdomination."
Draupnir grins.
Camri blinks.
Draupnir asks, "anyone seen the runner?"
You say, "Go crawl back into your holes."
Draupnir works his fingers under his tail cap and scratches his head.
Camri asks, "YOu're an abdomination?"
Draupnir peers quizzically at you.
You hear the voice of Staerin say, "I saw the old warrior"
Sintik asks, "what the hell is a abdomination?"
Camri peers quizzically at Karri.
Karri removes a crimson feathered invar dart from in her climbing pack.
An unfortunate divagation brings a fly into perilous contact with Camri's spidersilk cloak. With a sudden flurry of activity, a black spider emerges from the folds of the cloak and binds the fly in a mucilaginous shroud of silk.
You hear the voice of Staerin say, "But no runner"
Sintik says, "nae"
Sintik nods to Draupnir.

You hear the voice of Staerin say, "That's unexpected"
Suddenly you have the strangest feeling that you are being watched.
The feeling fades as quickly as it came.
The field mouse takes a moment to nibble at something.
You see an elegant turquoise robe embroidered with the image of dueling dragons surrounded by white runes open.
Camri says, "Ok, she might be whatever you called her... but you're dead"
depart confirm
Slowly the world begins to dissolve into a grainy montage of color..
[Purgatory]
You find yourself wandering amidst endless streaming light, and vast nothingness. This place feels torn between two prophecies, each vying for your loyalty.
Also in the room: All the spirits of those who could not choose.
Obvious exits: light and darkness.
Time seems to have no meaning as you wander aimlessly amidst the uncomfortable tugging for your attention. Hopelessness washes over dreams you once held like the creeping tide of doom.
You are not sure when it started, but you suddenly realize that an old man has entered into a conversation with you. He speaks of things left undone, of special children who were chosen to make a difference. You cannot quite grasp what he is talking about, but he seems to be referring to you. Although he seems to find it excruciatingly difficult, the man grants you back your mortal life.
"Heed this!" he says, "Thy future relies upon thy deeds, for even I am powerless beyond a point!"
Suddenly you feel an intense pain scorching your very soul! The world of your past suddenly comes rushing back into your memory. You are quite bewildered by what has transpired, but alive...
Obvious paths: south, east, west.
rub am
You rub a crystal amulet.
You feel your mind open up to the world around you.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
pull am
As you cover your crystal amulet with your hand and pull, just for a moment the sky and everything around you turns black.
[Town Square, East]
Here in the center of a broad plaza near the commercial area of the bazaar stands the impressive facade of the slate-roofed Moot Hall, where the citizens of Wehnimer's Landing hold various official, religious and social functions. Facing the square are some of the town's more prosperous shops, still doing business with the many customers who still frequent the streets at night. You also see a large wooden barrel.
Also here: Karri
Obvious paths: north, south, east, west
You see Karri Shi'ne.
She appears to be a Dwarf of the Khanshael.
She appears to have come of age and short. She has beady pale grey eyes and dark skin. She has long, white hair worn in a bun. She has an oval face, an upturned nose and a long braided beard.
She is in good shape.
She is wearing nothing special.
You hear the voice of Nekkratania calmly ask, "Who goes there?"
Karri laughs at you!
Karri just went west.

I didn't kill your character. I had nothing to do with that. Karri isn't even a friend of mine, just someone I know. KARRI killed you, I had nothing to do with it. I made one comment after you called someone disgusting. Sintik is mean, he makes comments like that after you call someone disgusting. You brought yourself into the name calling thing, I responded. I had nothing to do with your death. I didn't stun, threaten, or anything.......

You can if you are in defensive stance. That's another reason why Karri didn't mean to kill this person. She was in defensive stance using the weakest weapon, A DART, and a flare went off.....

I'm sorry I have to spell out the meaning behind this for some people. It's the same old thing, some guy comes into the cul-de-sac thinking he's dealing with a bunch of 1-10 train people and wants to start trouble. What he finds out a lot of people are a lot older then him. It's amazing how many times people come into the cul-de-sac thinking they are going to push everyone around and they end up walking out with their tail between their legs.

So for the slow people:

1.People shouldn't get in other's buisness.
2. People shouldn't come to the cul-de-sac thinking they are going to push people around, because people who hang out there range from 1, to 160 (no exaggeration).

However I really don't see anything I did that was wrong. I was searching someone out, yes, that did cause a screen scroll. That is why I went invisible afterwards. Everything else is typical Sintik behavior. I'm mean, rude, and like to cause trouble wherever I go. It's how I play and have always played. That is too sad. I was under the impression that ALL kinds of personalities were expected within Gemstone. Yes, Valania is a bitch but that is how I plan on RPing her. I don't expect everyone to love her nor should I expect anyone who wants to attack her for speaking rudely. What was I thinking! Silly me. I do not wish to become involved in such activities in general when I rest. I think the actions of the dart thrower were childish. You just have to LOOK at my character to see she's little, and how do you expect them to defend against that? Seriously, I don't mind RP but I really hate "jokes" that are meant to show someone their place as I would assume was the intent. And even hinting that Galann is an older *brother* is an insult both me and him. So continue to discuss or flame/bash. On a side note, Sintik stated that he is quote "Sintik is mean" yet I don't see people jumping up his ass for being a jerk. Don't start with the double standards, thanks. Is there really a difference between a well known ass and a new one?

i've killed countless people on accident. From the look of the log, it looked like an accident to me.
I dont think many people are trained in throwing items, So if you THINK about it, it was an accident. She threw a dart, it flared (you can't control flares) and it killed you.
Deal with it, and move on.

On the other hand, if the people who attacked you were roleplaying, then you have to accept THEIR RP. Maybe they attack rude bitches, that's their RP bit. That's a million times different than Izbin attacking Maimara because of something that was said on the boards.

<<That is too sad. I was under the impression that ALL kinds of personalities were expected within Gemstone. Yes, Valania is a bitch but that is how I plan on RPing her.>>

Good, I like people who play like that. You just deal with what happens. You want to be a slut, you get treated like one. You want to be an ass, you get treated like one. Candor for example, complete asshole, gets killed constantly and he doesn't freak out. He's great.

<<I don't expect everyone to love her nor should I expect anyone who wants to attack her for speaking rudely. What was I thinking!>>

<<<I do not wish to become involved in such activities in general when I rest. I think the actions of the dart thrower were childish. You just have to LOOK at my character to see she's little, and how do you expect them to defend against that?

Your mistaken. However you weren't meant to die. You are 1 train right? That requires the "dart thrower" to be in defensive stance. I'm sure you weren't meant to die, I know you aren't worth the fine to me......>>>

Then don't rest in public places! Go rest at a table if you want to sleep.

<<<Seriously, I don't mind RP but I really hate "jokes" that are meant to show someone their place as I would assume was the intent.>>>

There was no joke, Sintik really did think your character was ugly. Sorry if you can't deal with me being mean, but that's how I am and I'm not changing that because you don't like it.

<<And even hinting that Galann is an older *brother* is an insult both me and him.>>

I don't care either way. He's still a jackass where he's your "brother" or not.

<<<So continue to discuss or flame/bash. On a side note, Sintik stated that he is quote "Sintik is mean" yet I don't see people jumping up his ass for being a jerk.>>>

Because I'm know at the cul-de-sac for that. Everyone that hangs out there knows me. I do get a lot of shit from people that don't know me. But Drakam, Staerin, Camri, Karri (the player behind Karri, Sintik and Karri hate eachother) are all friends. I'm mean to every single of them. I call them ugly, fat, stupid, etc. However they deal with it and we have fun with it. Nobody jumps down my throat because they know me and we are all friends.

<<<Don't start with the double standards, thanks. Is there really a difference between a well known ass and a new one?>>>

When everyone there was my friend, they do handle me differently. They all are mean back to me, as well. I get stunned, webbed, kicked, and punched constantly. You are taking this way out of hand. ONE person killed you, not all of us (not to mention it was a mistake.) People were being mean because you were being mean. If you can't deal with that, don't be mean......

Oh, and don't go off saying that "They are just nice to you because you are older." Drakam and Staerin can both kill me if they wanted, however we are friends, we get along.

From what I remember, Sintik was a good roleplayer, Arkans is also a good roleplayer, so is Ryever.
I find roleplaying POINTLESS in Gs, since no one does it.
However, when I meet a few people that actually DO roleplay, I roleplay to the best of my knowledge.

Heh and here I thought I was going to have a boring night. Relax Sintik since you seem to think I am out to get you and only you. Sorry but that's not the case. When I want to refer to a specific person I'll do my best to try and name them.

One of the reasons I chose to rest and basically be AFK at that particular area is I was hoping to be left alone, clear her mind and hunt before I left for work. I KNOW asses in Gemstone are in general treated poorly. Which I why I want to try and limit the people who I RP around. But Valadia is also the type of person who is going to talk back, period. If I was left alone, this could have been avoided. It was a lack of respect where I think I clearly stated that I do not wish to be bothered.

I have a couple of other thoughts on this topic. I really don't care if you're well known or not by people at the Cul-de-Sac, you're an unknown to both me personally and my character. How am I supposed to know that everything is being said/done in jest? It's really not possible if you think about it. And your insults about my character being ugly, those were insulting? Again, my previous comments weren't aimed at you more as they are aimed at the folks reading. To me, good RP involves conflict that is spoken without resporting to violence. Bickering between people is nothing new to me and I like doing it. Except there and then. I don't believe I am whining about anything that happened but I feel that there are two sides and I'm trying to get my views/ideas across.
On another note. I'm tired tonight and perhaps I was a tad bitchy but I'll stick by my thoughts about this ugly incident being uncalled for.

Accident or not, the dart attack was not warranted. I tire of higher level players using thier superior strength to bully other players into thier opinion of RP.

Even if this person was a bitch, that is not a reason to attack her, even with your weakest weapon. Using the flare as an excuse and telling someone to 'move on' is pussy bullshit and you know it. Also that comment about someones RP being to attack people... thats bullshit and you know it. If thats the case then SoandSO can say "oh it's my rp to attack nice people I dont know for no reason" BULLSHIT

Although the guy who casted at Sintik lucked out, that bitch deserved a death.

My motto is... dont attack except in self defense.

Any spell cast on another player without permission is technically attacking them. Yes even a defensive spell that helps another player shouldnt be cast without permission( some people might not want it cast on them)

Anyways enough babbling...

Not all RP is going to be handled the way you want. Not all people who get into problems with someone that has an attitude will be nice enough to continue with the verbal bashing. Some characters do kill just to shut you up and make you go away. That's their roleplay and you need to accept that as much as they have to accept yours. You just can't determine how the RP must be handled.

It seemed to me that you were killed by accident, since you can't purposely kill anyone under the level of two. So relax. You want to have a bitchy character, realize that people won't talk, just cast, and it's unfortunate that people like you who can't handle ALL types of conflict have helped eliminate that option for many people because they start with the claims of "they're pulling around their weight/age" when in actuality they're just responding in their own way.

Some people fight with words, other with actions, and you have to accept both. I dare you to go up to a really big guy, like a bouncer at a bar, and tell him that he's a disgusting black man and to leave you alone (since you did call Karri disgusting), and let's see if he just comes back with a witty retort, or grab you by the neck and toss you on your ear.

Pick your battles, dear, and accept them gracefully.

Perhaps not hunting much in the Cul-de-Sac has a lot to do with it. Most of my older characters spent very little time in there and I don't keep up on the current gossip of what happens around Elanthia. I agree about asking to be bothered when I wanted to be left alone. It's a kick in the pants that I should avoid people as they might repeat what happened here. But on the downside how exactly am I supposed to meet new people if you're not willing to RP how you believe for fear of being attacked/killed/maimed, etc? I have never played a really dark persona before and this is going to be a learning process so I guess I will have to chalk it up as a good thing in the long run. Playing a darker side takes a fine skill and I'm positive I'll have a lot of such experiences if I don't watch myself. If I agreed to the conflict I wouldn't have a single bad thing to say but it does show my that some people are willing to step beyond what I am willing to do for the sake of fun. Being attacked and killed is a part of the game but it's almost as bad as attacking a *snert* for being OOC. Neither are acceptable to me.

I did. I said I don't care about roleplaying anymore because of stupid names and constant OOCness. I didn't say however that I left people out and avoided them because of their stupid names. I don't care about roleplay anymore because the staff doesn't. Hardly anyone roleplays in Gemstone anymore, so I'm not someone who freaks out when someone says AS or DS. Besides, Karri isn't a stupid name. You are probably like 1 of 5 people in Gemstone that know that means DIE in Japanese, it's not a stupid name. I'm curious as to why people who are played as being less than nice seem to be the match that starts a fire. From my view point (and yes, I'll admit it's slightly biased) I don't think my words are any worse than others I've seen on a regular basis. And I would have to agree with the various posters about the differences in what someone considers RP. I know everyone has an opinion about what happened and that's their right.... but when I want to join the list of known bitchy people I want it to be on my terms when my character is old enough to offer more of a defense than a sharp mouth. And in all honesty, my character is an empath so for a very, very long time she wouldn't really be able to defend herself except by the barbs on her tongue. Overall I'm frustrated at how much Gemstone has degraded into a might is right group of people who feel they need to show themselves up. I'm rambling again so I'll stop now before I add more to the fodder.

ONE of the best. You don't have to meet everyone in the game to claim someone is one of the best roleplayers in the game. And what are you talking about her being a bad roleplayer there? She killed someone by accident. However I'm sure she would have killed this person anyway because she is evil. Karri attempts to kill Sintik every day because Sintik is Faendryl. She's a murderer and hates all other races, she was completely IC there. I have yet to meet someone who plays a evil character better then her.

<<<I hate blanket statements that manage to insult a vast majority of people. If I'm not better than that, I feel very insulted. Good thing you've never met any of my characters.>>>

You saw Karri for what, 5 seconds? She's such a horrible roleplayer because she killed someone with a dart! She was IC the whole time and attempted to maim the character, it just so happened the dart flared and killed the person. She wasn't happy she killed the person, but she stayed IC and played it out.

<<<Heh! And I doubt you care. You're a big bad "I'm rude and I don't care!" guy. Kinda' like Klaive in some of his... moments. >>>

Please. I don't quake the park, I don't do stupid shit like that. I fight with people who annoy me, say stupid things and I comment on them, or I just poke some fun at people to get a rise out of them for a reason (IE not being Faendryl). All a person has to do is whisper to me that they don't like what I'm saying and I'll end all conversation with them and that's that. I don't care if people find Sintik offensive in gemstone, that's how I play him. I'm a badass because I don't care what people think of my RP?

I don't go causing trouble and then run to town when someone is mad at me. I handle what people throw at me. Klaive hides in town when he pisses people off. I'm nothing like him.

Karri is an actual american name. Karri webb, the golfer for example. It's not just a japanese phrase.

On the other hand, if the people who attacked you were roleplaying, then you have to accept THEIR RP. Maybe they attack rude bitches, that's their RP bit. That's a million times different than Izbin attacking Maimara because of something that was said on the boards.

You said that you don't expect everyone to love her, but maybe their characters automatically attack people they don't love... shrugs... you have to at least consider the possibility.

Just like you want them to consider that you "plan" on RPing a bitch.

-K

First off, if someone roleplays they attack rude bitches, is the person they are attacking, suppose to just sit there? FUCK NO, someone attacks me, they will get killed, that simple.
All you do is think about the action one could possibly take, but not the reaction that's involved.

Sorry Solkern, I think you missed something. I was addressing you in the first paragraph, but after that someone else. I should have made that more clear.

Next: CT is right. Roleplaying is about doing what you do, and then other people react (NOT always how you want or expect), and then you react, et cetera. Person Whose Character Was Killed and is Whining: If you want to have total control, cancel your GS accounts immediately and go play the SIMS.

Fixed the bit on that, Sintik.

Overall I'm frustrated at how much Gemstone has degraded into a might is right group of people who feel they need to show themselves up. I'm rambling again so I'll stop now before I add more to the fodder.

Oh please. If anything it has lessened through the years because once upon a time you would get killed if you asked for a bless more than twice in the span of an hour. Things have dumbed down for the likes of you who want to play bitchy but can't handle it.

Incidently, evil does not equal rude or nasty.

Someone please clarify something for me. Someone is mouthing off or being a general nuisance and they get killed. What exactly is there to defend? They started with the attitude and someone else finished it, what exactly needs to be retaliated? Perhaps this is why feuds never end because no one will admit that they started it and the way that it was finished wasn't acceptable.

By the way, there is ALWAYS someone older than you, so yes the weaker will always be the victims if they place themselves there in the first place.

If you don't feel like playing a victim, don't mouth off to people with short tempers. People with an attitude problem will inevitably be a victim sooner or later. Just because you wouldn't bully someone with spells or weapons doesn't mean they have to endure YOUR bullying with your mouth.

Heh. Never, never, never go to the cul-de-sac and announce that you wish to rest and be left alone. It WILL NOT happen. Best place to rest would be somewhere that people do not go to "hang out", like one of the housing areas, or a table, house, or private room. The cul-de-sac is, like the niche, a really bad choice.

If you intend to play an antagonistic character, you are going to have problems if you start being antagonistic as a youngun. Think about it for a moment. The young and the weak are fodder in a land like Elanthia. Therefore, they will not show their antagonistic side until they are able to back up their taunts with action, should action come their way.

Reading the logs, I really do believe that the intent was not to kill. The flare could not be planned. It just happened. What resulted was unintended, but once it happened, it had to be coped with. There is reason to hold a grudge, but a young one will not be able to act on that grudge for some time...maybe, never.

Being a bully by talking is no where near the same extent as being a bully with your weapons/skills, or whatever else you want to use. Using your weapon to enforce something is the easy way out while using your wit to verbally spar with someone is much more effective. You're seen ONE of my characters from that very brief log that consisted of under 15 sentences. That small slice of personality being displayed is not the whole concept of what I usually try and bring out with people. I like to think I am able to know when to stop with the mouth if I think someone can't handle, or is taking what I say too seriously. That dark side is the opposite of what I am and roleplaying is about exploring otherwise unknown facets of yourself and bringing them to life.

Being older on the other hand doesn't always mean that person will abuse the power they've earned. In my time I've met some great people who had ancient characters and were the most amazing people around. Sure they are now fewer and farther between but maybe I'll just let the next idiot who wants to cause trouble indulge themselves without a peep of protest since it's pointless to try and stop it myself. Yeah, that works just fine as I crawl under my desk and hide all those mean, nasty people who are out to get me, and only me. (Yes, it was sarcasm. Laugh.)

No offense to you, but if you're going to throw a weapon at a youngin, wouldn't you at least know if the dang thing flared or not? Hiding behind "it was an accident!" doesn't go easily with me. Heck, it's almost like saying "I didn't know a drake weapon flared." That might be your opinion, and that's fine, you're entitled. But so are the other few thousand people who play GS, and if their opinion is that smartmouths should be attacked, you have to deal with that.

I understand where you are trying to go, Praefection. At least, I think I do. However, roleplaying is only semi-alive in GemStone3. Some will roleplay with you and others will not. Some will attack and consider it roleplay. For them, it is roleplay.

Good luck with your efforts to explore playing a "dark side" character. It can be very difficult, but also a lot of fun if you can just get to the point where others understand what you are doing and are willing to work with you. There are those who will (at least, I think there still are). Hopefully, you will be able to find some people who will help you along.

Yes, I agree that the person probably knew it was a possiblity. However, they did not PLAN it. It happened. Now, you need to deal with it as it happened. Like I said, there is room for grudge-holding here. I know my dark character would be muttering curses and trying to figure a way to get even...but, she would have been doing it under her breath, so to speak. She would know that she could not stand against the elements she had brought into being by her remark. Time, and planning, would have been her answer. ;)

"Working with" someone shouldn't include bending to one person's perception of how conflict should be handled, and I'll give you a good example.

My character is a "dark side" character. She's not outright rude or nasty 90% of the time, but when she is, both she and I are prepared for the consequences. There was a day in Solhaven she wouldn't stop taunting Turinrond over the amunet. She taunted, taunted, taunted. He got mad. She said some very "verbally witty" things, IMO. He taunted back, got sick of her smartass mouth, and came and killed her.

You don't see me whining about it. Because, um, it was roleplay. I didn't necessarily WANT my girl to get killed, but it was a logical result of her not shutting her trap when she should have.

I'm sorry but I disagree that attacking is not roleplaying. Attacking for no reason is, but if it's provoked, I see nothing wrong it. It's not my type of roleplaying, but if that's how some characters react to situations they don't like, then that's their roleplay. To say that all people who attack to resolve their problems are not roleplaying is not a fair assumption.

Agreed. I think, what we are all saying is: People roleplay differently. What is expected from one cannot be expected from another. My dark character would probably have pulled this one aside and discussed possible truly nasty alternatives for future application. While doing so, part of the time would have been spent teaching this new "dark" character a few of the rules of the road. It would have been kept in character, as two truly nasty people working toward a new level of absolute nastiness. :D

It is all in how it is done. Praefection can, if effort is made, find those who will help get the player where the character is going. It is a matter of learning how the world works, in my opinion.

I got my arse handed to me many a time, and I enjoyed it each time. Not all people roleplay alike, and not all people learn to roleplay in the same way. That is all I am saying.

You can do this. Just wander around a bit and watch the roleplay. When you see someone whose roleplay comes close to matching what you might like to do, try whispering to them to see if you can get them to work with you. I really do understand your frustration with getting killed in confrontations. However You can't control your environment, so you'll always be around people who aren't mature, who are quick tempered and a quick draw, and who don't argue with words quite as well as others. You have to take the bad with the good. You need to be as mature as how you want the people around you to be.

HarmNone, I think you are offering advice that far surpasses what this young dark one has done so far. However, I will have to insert that whispering to someone and asking them to "work" with you is a poor idea in comparison to just befriending them in an IC manner. The few times I've done storylines that were planned out from start to finish with gaps in between, it hasn't gone as well as I'd have liked. That's because it's a bad idea to try and control things too much or expect people to react a certain way.

We would go someplace private and talk about what works in Elanthia and what does not work. Some people do not care to do this, but there are those who will.

Almost never did I plan out roleplay. What I did do was work with these players with imagined scenaria, helping them to see the possibilities and the difference in roleplay "types". Planning roleplay never works. There are as many possibilities as there are people. One must always be prepared for the unexpected, no matter what one sets out to do. I'll partially agree with that statement, but I'd add that people who hide behind their attacks as roleplaying because they think an insult or someone lipping off is consent aren't roleplaying either. They're just using it as an excuse to attack.

No way would I roleplay a character that was thin-skinned or got easily tweaked at a comment or some smart-mouthing.

I'd at least attempt a battle of wits and intellect first before casting that spell or swinging that blade. Chances are I'd learn the person I'd entered into conflict with was a lamer RPer and a waste of my time and energy.

I have dark and light characters, and amusingly, my light characters seem to get into more conflicts than my darker ones. The dark characters just find blowhards all too entertaining and ignore them.

Also, I try to prevent anyone else from stepping in to her defense in a situation that Camri has created with her mouth. I figure, when someone is willing to start a situation, they should be willing to take whatever comes of it, or they shouldn't have started it.

Now as far as the flaring dart... The player behind Karri does not uphold bullying young characters. Karri was simply reacting the way her character is played. The other girl called her a disgusting dwarf, and something else. The killing was accidental on Karri's part. But another character might have intentionally killed her for the same thing. She should have been prepared for that when she opened her mouth.

Throwing a dart at someone that just called her a smelly dwarf was very IC for Karri. There was a 50/50 chance it could flare, it did, she paid the fine.

I don't remember anywhere it was said that Karri didn't know the dart could flare. She was simply playing her character in IC fashion.

Edited for spelling

I have to thank you all for killing my new character. So here it is. Thanks! Yes, I am the soul behind Valania and it's really sad you guys resort to that kind of shit. She is level one and no threat except having an IC attitude. I'll post my own log of what happened. Edited to remove all the needless crap. Have fun reading.

Well seems to me you dont hang out much in the Cul even with your other character. If you did then you would realise being a smart ass can get you into trouble. You walked in there and started with eveyone to act " all bad " I cannot stand when someone who has an older character walks in somehwere and acts like a smartass. Then they cry about being attacked when they brought it on themselves. Get over it and stop crying . You get what you deserve. If you cant play nice then dont play at all .

Live with it. People like to push their weight around. Why? Because they are sad little losers.

Yeah that's almost true. I find it quite easy to judge others RPing. Calling myself a good RPer is a biased opionion. Just like you think you are a good RPer, but I find you to be horrible at it. You are like Warclaidhm JR. You warn people because you don't want to deal with. Good RPer's can handle conflict, even if the other person is just being an asshole.

Maybe his standards aren't so high. If you think I just suddenly decided one day that I was good at RPing, you're wrong. It takes a year or so of build up and good feedback to think that about one's self.

I don't have high standards at all. As I said before, I don't care if you are the crappiest RPer in Gemstone. However to call yourself a great roleplayer and say things like "I won't talk to people or hang out with people who can't roleplay" because you think you are this amazing RPer is just sad. HEY! I'm unable to handle a conflict on my own! WARN, REPORT, ASSIST. Excellent handleing of the most OOC verbs in Gemstone. Congrats!

While Sintik often raises my hackles and is one of the prime reasons I stay away from the cul-de-sac, I agree with his stance on "I am better than you, so I won't try to play with you". Its why I hate Solhaven and RR. Why should I have to prove myself? Surely people should be trying to help my RP (or whomever), instead of condemning it.

I've said it once, twice and a hundred times and now I will say it again: Warn is for pussies who cannot handle the stuff they often get themselves into. Report, while still being OOC, is not totally in your face like Warn. Warn, IMHO is yet another "addition" that spoils GS.

I have no problem with her killing people, geez. I really have no care one way or the other on the issue that everyone's taken up on this thread. Honestly.

I say she was less than stellar because currently, my standard of good role-playing requires more expression, more movement. More than just standing there and talking. I mean... when you talk to someone, do you just stand there and let your mouth move without doing anything else?

I don't. But then, maybe I just have too much energy... But in an emotionally charged atmosphere like that (hate is an emotion!) I'd expect more than some evil grunting and a dark tone.

I'm one of those people that thinks the regular verbs don't convey enough sometimes, or they convey the wrong thing... like making the person look silly when it's meant as a serious action.

Call me elitist if you want, but ACT is my friend. Yeah, not for all situations... but she could have fit some really evil-looking stuff in there! I know I would have. At least she can type. I'll give 'er that.. (pet peeve..)

I think this needs to be said again. I know my 'evil' character isn't rude or nasty.

I remember the night the Landing was being burned down by Morvule and the only 'safe' spot was in front of the temple. I had people whispering to my character to not believe the Luukosians because they were evil and liars and I was egging them on saying things like 'oh really?' and 'my, my'. Next thing they saw me join up with said 'evil guys'. Since it was a safe spot all they could do were things like kick me and give me dirty looks. Oh, and their whispers changed dramatically. Such fun! (oh... and my character was maybe 5 trains at the time)

I didn't realize there were so many pages when I posted. Oh well... one of my points was you can be young and still be evil. My character was evil, the people warning me had just never taken the time to find out how she really felt about things. (she might have told them, however being the good Luukosian she is, she probably would have just lied).

She was slept, thumped, kicked, and cast at more that day than all the other days she'd been around. By people that normally were really nice to her at Hearthstone. I was rolling. Loved every minute of it.

Being dark and evil doesn't always have to translate to mean, rude, or someone that attacks at drop of the hat for the stupidest reasons.

I've played with plenty of dark characters that don't feel the need to demonstrate their big bad selves by casting spells or attacking people for stupid reasons and are much more effectively impressive by their cunning demeanor. Quite a common mistake to make, that thinking evil and dark = physical brutal and violent.

How come the day I go to Teras is the day all the fun stuff in the cul happens? :(

And... Sintik isn't mean or evil. He's fun to be around! Just try calling him a cross-dressing sorceress. ;)

That's IMPLIED, sugar. Actually, yes you did imply it, which is why I added my comment.

I'd wouldn't call being a typical cookie cutter baddie trendy, either.
