ICE age katana?
I know there are old style that are falchion based, but I wasn't aware there were katanas pre-Gemstone days. Perhaps I'm getting forgetful as I get older......

I'm open to correction. I believe it's that old, though.

There is a difference between ICE and oldstyle. It could be very old, but if it were from the ICE days, I don't think it would inspect as vultite unless a post-ICE merchant got their hands on it and had to change it. Isn't shaalk the ICE vultite?

Vultite means it is not ICE age. Shaalk was the vultite of ICE age. It's an old-style for sure, but not ICE age

OK, glad my title is still correct at least!

I believe these statements to be incorrect. Any ICE Age metal whose properties correctly converted during the shift will INSPECT as the new metal. Shaalk will inspect as vultite, laen will inspect as glaes, ithloss will inspect as imflass, etc. I’m unaware of any ICE metal that INSPECTs as the ICE metal. Some ICE items didn’t convert correctly during the shift, and will inspect as "wood" or "metal".
Showing “vultite” in the INSPECT does NOT necessarily mean the item was converted by a GM or is not ICE age - that manual conversion takes place in the item’s short/long/show description, and not in the properties. If your item was "an elegant diamond hilted vultite katana" that would mean it couldn't be ICE age, or was converted.
Your item could very well be ICE Age, however it's hard to guarantee without an ICE word in the name ;-)
Examples:
>inspect my dag
You carefully inspect your laen dagger.
After a careful inspection you determine that a golden laen dagger requires skill in edged weapons to use effectively.
It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of glaes.
>inspect my broad
You carefully inspect your gold laen broadsword.
After a careful inspection you determine that a finely honed gold laen broadsword requires skill in edged weapons to use effectively.
It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of glaes.
>inspect my broad
You carefully inspect your laen broadsword.
After a careful inspection you determine that a black laen broadsword requires skill in edged weapons to use effectively.
It looks like this item has been mainly crafted out of glaes.

I'd almost guarantee this was one of the rare katanas that sold out of the backroom in Teras' weapon shop. they could apparently randomly arrive in any of then metals Teras sold. Most of the merchant sold katana before then were weighted, unless it happens to be one of the one's Breighton made to order. Would still be damned near 20 years old though. Damn but we are all ancient!

Question for you on the origin. Did you happen to find this katana on the evening of march 17th or early morning march 18th? If so, I believe there is a reward for its return. This likely would have been lost between IMT TC and one west of bank in whenimers.
I PMd the individual who would likely reach out to you, though I'm unsure of his playtime in this current real life craziness.
If you're uncertain, the portion of the bard loresong about being last enchanted by E......h would confirm or deny whether this was in fact the item he lost or just a coincidence.
Thank you.
I did not, I bought it from someone.

they were originally sold off the shelf as shimmering steel katanas, +17 with crit weighting i believe

You can have these old katanas worked on by merchants. I'm pretty sure there's no auto-conversion risk (unless they contain an ICE reference). The only thing "illegal" is the noun not being approved for non-katana weapon bases, but they're grandfathered in. They're only converted to the katana base if you ask.

I don't think this is one of those shimmering steel katanas, since this one is inspected as vultite. The ones you're referring to may have been steel, but I don't remember. The OP also stated that this originally had no weighting but now has 4 CER.
