View Full Version : Highest Possible CS?

Has anyone ever ran numbers to see what the highest possible CS would be for a sorcerer or wizard, assuming they're capped with 303 spell ranks.
543 or 546 for a delf is memory serves.

How would those 303 spell ranks be distributed to attain that maximum CS, with diminishing returns and all that?

Secondary spell circles get 69 ranks each. Primary circle gets all the other ranks.

I don't have the right computer near me, but I thought the threshold for secondary circles was 66 ranks, then it went from 2/3 to 1/10.

Errr. Goddamnit. I knew it was 2/3 too. I just typed 69 for some reason.

Primary spell circle bonus: (round normally)
Ranks up to level: 1CS/rank
Ranks 1-20 above level: .75CS/rank
Ranks 21-60 above level: .5CS/rank
Ranks 61-100 above level: .25CS/rank
Ranks 101 -? above level: .125CS/rank
Secondary circle is:
Ranks up to 2/3 level: .33333333CS/rank
Ranks over 2/3 level: .111111111CS/rank

The reason I think it's 66 is because I remember the post saying "up to 2/3 level". 66 would be in that range, but not 67, assuming no rounding. Shouldn't be that hard to check, though.
We all know what you were thinking of, Kitson. For shame. ;)
edit: Err, yeah. Thanks StrayRogue.

None of that math you just used made sense. Level is level, period. You can't cast x02 at level 1. If it is 101, rounding isn't even a factor (67 1/3).
However, your idea that it's 67 isn't implausible in the slightest.

If I remember it's 67. So a wizard going for max CS would have 67 wizard/major, and the rest in Minor.

Level 0 is counted. It's counted as level 0. The only way I can describe it is the OPTION BASE function while dimensioning an array in QBASIC. You can have 0 to 100, or you can have 1 to 101. Level 0 is level 0, level 100 is level 100. 0 does not become 1.
Bobmuhthol

p.s. 100 * (2 / 3) = 66 2/3
66 <= 66 2/3, and 67 > 66 2/3.
66 works, 67 does not.

543 or 546 for a delf is memory serves.
It's around 542 or 543.
highest CS would be for the Minor Elemental circle because of true strike
and it would be 572 assuming a 30 aura bonus and a heavy quartz orb
A dark elf wizard can get around 570 without a heavy quartz orb.

<<So then if level 0 doesn't count at all then you shouldn't be able to learn spells at level 0.>>
This is false. And makes no sense at all. Level 0 DOES count. 0 + 100 happens to equal 100 is all. It's not how many levels you've trained. It's what level you are.
<<As it is, learning 303 spells @ 3 spells per level would mean that there were a total of 101 levels>>
Again, OPTION BASE 0. 0 to 100 is 101 levels. It's not 1 to 101, because you don't start and end at those levels.
<<Thus, I believe that is where the idea of 67 ranks comes from (I know I am not the only person who has said this).>>
You should listen to people who are good with programming, logic, and mathematics, though.

Next logical question: what is the highest critter's TD?

Well... This is the orginal post by Saltstone(The person who did the research) on the Offial boards. StrayRogue left out the part where 2/3 of your level rounds up. So, it's 67 ranks.
CS = (level x 3) + primary spell circle bonus + secondary spell circle 1 + secondary spell circle 2 + stat bonus
Primary spell circle bonus: (round normally)
Ranks up to level: 1CS/rank
Ranks 1-20 above level: .75CS/rank
Ranks 21-60 above level: .5CS/rank
Ranks 61-100 above level: .25CS/rank
Ranks 101 -? above level: .125CS/rank
Secondary circle bonuses: (always rounds up...this is the most common place where people mess up)
Ranks up to 2/3 level: .33333CS/rank
Ranks above 2/3 level: .111111CS/rank
The calculation of 2/3 level also rounds up.
Stat bonus:
AU for elemental casters
WI for spiritual casters
(AU+WI)/2 for sorcerers (round up)

I apologize for being correct in a scenario where exact values are used.
I also apologize that you fail to see that you were completely erroneous in saying that there is a level 101 when there clearly is not.

<<I never said there was a level 101 you fucking moron>>
In an array of levels, you substituted 1 as the starting level instead of 0. Following that rule, level(x) = level(x + 1), you end up with the levels 1 through 101. This, however, is not true at all and the true level spectrum is 0 to 100, still totalling 101 levels and portraying an accurate figure in calculations.
<<Jesus, for someone who claims to know so much about the English language I wonder if you can read sometimes. In any case, you were wrong.>>
For someone who knows nothing in the way of logistics, I don't expect you to understand why you were wrong. I was right using what was given to me. You came up with a bullshit method, used it improperly when compared to the rules you now follow, and got the correct answer.
The way you did it, you said 33.66 + 33.66 = 67.32. However, you said it rounds down. The fact that it rounds up (66 2/3 could not become 67 without rounding) goes against your truncation statement.

<<You, on the other hand, assuming you knew what the hell you were talking about, which you clearly DID NOT arrogantly posted false information.>>
Incorrect. I correctly solved for the answer using incomplete data from someone else. I know exactly what I'm talking about when I say two thirds of one hundred is not sixty-seven.
<<Again, it really doesn't matter, because you were wrong.>>
So were you.
<<Also, you can take your "logistics" and wipe your ass with them, because they're not doing you any good.>>
Anyone who has any knowledge in this area (in other words, anyone who has passed Algebra I) will likely agree with me.
p.s. logistics aren't mine.

<<Sorry, kid. I passed Algebra I in 8th grade and that was a very long time ago. The amount of times I've used it since then, however, is roughly equal to the amount of braincells you use when writing two-thirds of your posts.>>
I don't understand what the point of saying any of this is.
<<p.s. You don't need a calculator or a college degree to figure out the answer to that equation.>>
You didn't even know the equation, idiotbrain.

Oh, and not to be outclassed by the millionaire, I passed Advanced Algebra II - Honors in 8th grade and got high school credit for it.
I can't tell, but I think I win.

I hate to say this, but I'm going to have to side with bob on this one. Ryenn is sounding a lot like an past, angry bob IMO. Way to step up Bob.

Yeah, you win for sure bro. That and a $1.25 will buy you a bus ticket anywhere in my city.
But the real question is, what is 2/3 of 1.25?
That should keep you busy for another week.

If someone could post the Own3d pic of mosh girl stepping on that guy's head here, that'd be terrific.

What's odd is I have the same reference Jonty has, but in mine it goes directly from Secondary circle bonus to Stat bonus. Oh wells. Round up it is.

Dont have the girl stepping head, but this should suffice.

Bumping an old thread here, but I thought this was worth posting:
Werileo gestures at an umbral force herald.
CS: +556 - TD: +267 + CvA: +25 + d100: +74 == +388
Warding failed!
Wisps of black smoke swirl around an umbral force herald and she bursts into flame!
... 70 points of damage!
Right leg aflame. When the smoke clears, there's nothing left.
An umbral force herald falls to the ground grasping her mangled right leg!
... 70 points of damage!
Left leg completely charred.
... 65 points of damage!
Left arm incinerated. Unfortunate.
The force herald howls out one last time and dies.
Highest CS I've seen since gs4.
Fuck I've given my sorcerer too much MnE ranks. I think I gave him 82 or something.
Gonna knock them down to what, 74?

Yeah that's even higher than Niqk's which was the highest I'd seen.

Im not sure if it is worth it to have that high of a CS, unless the balance of the minor circles allows you an ample balance of TD/DS/and AS(bolt/otherwise).
Is there anything, aside from a fully spelled up capped PC and an NPC that he couldn't hit with 99% accuracy?
Bobmuhthol

It's so obvious that Werileo is using the CS hack.

I was kidding.
Why did Omens get banned?
I forgot but didn't it have something to do with him messing with numbers, like that?
Bobmuhthol

Messing with numbers = abusing migration to max all skills. A bug that still exists today - just don't get caught.
When I decide to leave GS I'll look it up.
Can't hurt to do it if I was leaving anyway.
Thanks Bob.

is that with an orb?
Quite possibly. Although I was merely alongside him in the Illistim invasion last night and awed by his CS. I didn't see him rub an orb, but that's not to say he didn't.

Well as was stated by someone earlier in the thread a wizard's CS can go up to about 570 as a delf. If my memory serves me correctly Werileo is a dark elf wizard.
