Hey, so I'd like to have a Wuhan thread that isn't 100+ pages of political argument and debate. It's an interesting thread but it's hard to wade through to find other issues, personal anecdotes or interesting stories from the members here that are related to the virus.

I'm just interested in how all of you are coping, things you might've experienced, seen or done, how your families are doing, that kind of thing.

I'm not banning political arguments but just suggesting that you take that to TG's thread. Let's keep this one on a more personal level.

Oops, apparently that isn't TG's thread, it's ClydeR's.

It's going to be interesting to see what the statistics are when they compile them for things like sexually transmitted diseases during the quarantine. Hard to get your freak on from six feet away. I feel bad for single adults.

I imagine transmission of the flu will go way down as well as any contagious illnesses.

I took a layoff a few weeks ago. I didn't have to and could go back pretty much any time I want, but the VA stopped the in-home care provider for my dad so I'm filling in for that instead. My finances are fine, so are supplies minus toilet paper.

I'm so happy my family has always bought in bulk for things like TP and other paper products. We've got enough to last us for at least six months. Yes, I did the math.

And if that turns out to not be enough (unlikely) then we have a bag of rags in the garage that can be torn up and repurposed!

Where part of the country are you in? The stores around me have been stocked with toilet paper lately. Granted toilet paper is still treated like gold with like 8 employees escorting the person when they bring a pallet full of toilet paper out (not even joking), but the last two times I went (yesterday and almost 3 weeks ago) they had toilet paper so I thought the toilet paper shortage was fixed. I guess it helps I don't live anywhere near a major metropolitan area.

Thus far I have been tested for the virus twice. Once by Kaiser and once by the ER last Sunday. Negative both times. We went because my breathing was so labored we thought I might have pneumonia. Turned out to be acute bronchitis so they put me on antibiotics, administered a bronchodilator and sent me on my way. Kaiser took a week to get results but the ER called me the next day with their results.

Also, fun fact: false negatives are likely in 30% of the tests administered, which seems really high.

The ER looked like something out of a sci-fi movie with everyone gowned, gloved and wearing masks and full-face shields. All the personnel looked at me like I might start rampaging through the hospital. Can't say I blame them. A scary time to be in the medical profession.

Phoenix area. Toilet paper has been slammed here since this thing began. I have 3 rolls at my place, I think my parents have 4. Stores run out of it within a minute of opening their doors, I see people entering as a group where each member grabs a pack because of the limit then checks out separately. Whatever, people are dumb. I'll stick my ass in the shower if I need to.

You should buy a bidet, easy to install and requires a lot less toilet paper. You can even get ones that heat the water and have heated seats for 100 dollars or less. Although bidets might be hard to come by at the moment as well.

I ordered a case of tp beginning part of March when this shit all started and people started hording. I've given away about 40 rolls so far to friends and neighbors, but 40 rolls will last us a year.

I'm a hospice RN who works outpatient which means I do visits to people's homes. As you can imagine it's a vulnerable population and it's been nerve wracking trying to care for them. Big shortages with masks and hand sanitizer but stores are doing a better job restricting bulk purchases on toiletries so it's great to start seeing people get access to those again.

One of my patients is under the impression this is a hoax because of what the president has said and is still attending large gatherings (60+ people) despite my warnings. I'm in a small town where 25% of the population falls below poverty and most people aren't concerned about the virus. I frequently have to mute Fox news on their TV so they can hear me and it's definitely an uphill battle.

Had a few coworkers go home recently with covid like symptoms but there aren't enough tests at the moment to see if it's legit. Cold/cough, low grade fever, etc. Starting to donate to pools for people who no longer have PTO left.

It's pretty overwhelming. I appreciate efforts like this to check in with our small community. Feels nice 😊

I've been on mandatory work from home for a month now, and I'm starting to go stir crazy. I've also been a part of our external COVID response- which is great in the sense that at least I feel like I'm doing something to help, small though it may be. My boyfriend is responsible for the COVID response for his office (a few hundred people). We've both been working nonstop- 12 hour days most days. We're both beyond exhausted.

But we're grateful to have jobs. And so far no one I know is sick. My mom and most of my aunt's and uncles have various genetic immune deficiencies. Mom's husband is a double transplant patient who has been on immune suppressing drugs. So there's a lot of anxiety right now over what happens if they do catch it.

It's just a really weird time.

I don't know how people in NY are doing it (well city part of NY). I am lucky enough to live out in the sticks on 9 acres so the kids and the wife and I have room to run around and play with our animals but I could not imagine being trapped in an apartment for all this time.

I've been working remotely for a month too. I'm in financial services, and our firm has everyone home, even sales and trading had equipment installed in their homes to conduct business. Turns out actually having a business continuity department matters. My wife, on the other hand, works for the state and they had to go from ZERO work from home capability to shoving a solution out the door (they went with Office365 VPN) and as of Wednesday of this week she's working from home too. Nobody we know is sick, and aside from walking our dog and occasional food runs (groceries/takeout) we're not doing shit. I miss the gym but I have some kettlebells and bands and I've been making the best of it. Not having to wear pants to work out is sweet at least.

I've worked from home for the last 8 years. People assume that this is no different than my normal work day.

It is. And I think my dog's change in habits exemplifies that.

In normal times, I walk my daughter to the school bus around the time my wife drives our soon to preschool. Our dog, an 8 year old pup, usually grabs one stuffed animal from each kid's bed and takes it to the front door where he naps with their familiar scents nearby until they begin arriving home at 3:30. Sometimes he musters the energy to come see what I'm making for lunch and hope I "drop" something for him, but usually he just rests at the front door all day.

I've always felt bad and thought he was depressed. But this new coronormal has revealed I was wrong.

Now, each morning when I re-fill my coffee and head to my home office for the day, he is right on my heels. We make our way to the office where he curls up beside me and naps until mid afternoon.

My dog isn't depressed. He's just an old dog that likes his sleep and having a 10 and 5 year old around all day gets in the way of that.

I wish people would wake up and realize that although the virus is real, the fatality/severity of this virus is overstated and the massive freak out and subsequent economic crash is due to individuals/organizations that have a lot to gain by creating chaos. When this is all said and done, we'll find the fatality rate to barely be above the common flu.

This makes me upset because I will likely have to furlough/lay off employees in the next week or so.

I honestly think this virus will have changed the way entire industries view remote working. My agency too went from one program manager having limited remote access, to 23 full time employees working from home taking hundreds of calls a day. Productivity hasn't dropped noticeably as of yet, but perhaps in the long run it can be a performance incentive.

You know the cares package will loan you up to 125% your burn rate, so long as you use it for things like rent, employee pay, utilities, interest on mortgage... etc, right? My sister is in the process of getting one for her dog kennel which has business down 98% since March. It'll carry her through 3 more months, and the government says if you use it for the things I listed above, it's forgivable.

Things are quieter here in the greater Denver area. Which is nice for my work commute. Still people on the road but rush hour no longer exists. I am still working as needed at the airport. I feel very blessed to be a salaried employee.

The most annoying thing about this is I can no longer use my season pass for the ski areas or go to my fitness club. I actually could ski at some areas but it requires you to hike with your gear since all the lifts are closed. No thanks, hiking up to the summit of a mountain for one run, not my idea of fun.

It’s strange at some stores, like King Soopers, they tend to be wiped out of a lot of products and fresh food. Drive seven or so blocks down the road to Walmart or Safeway and they are reasonably stocked. I’ve been doing a metric crap ton of remodeling on the house, as my boss leaves it at my discretion whether I need to go to work or not. Home Depot is still busy, especially with spring coming. They now limit only 100 people inside the store, and hand you a pre-sanitized trolley or cart. I’ve tried to avoid going to Home Depot, but there’s always one thing you forget about when doing a project.

I’m not taking any extra precautions when I venture outside the house. No mask and gloves. Regarding flu shots never have gotten one, nor do I plan on getting one. There are far too many strains of the virus. Most people I know who get flu shots seem to get the actual flu. My doctor tries to push it on me at my yearly physical. I always decline.

Fortunately no family members of mine have been infected, nor have I met anyone personally who knows someone who has been infected.

Here are Trump's exact words in the video you attempted to Google to make this political (while saying you don't want to get into a big thing about this, which is a lie). He didn't say it was a hoax:

Now the Democrats are politicizing the coronavirus. You know that, right? Coronavirus. They’re politicizing it. We did one of the great jobs. You say, ‘How’s President Trump doing?’ They go, ‘Oh, not good, not good.’ They have no clue. They don’t have any clue. They can’t even count their votes in Iowa, they can’t even count. No they can’t. They can’t count their votes.

One of my people came up to me and said, ‘Mr. President, they tried to beat you on Russia, Russia, Russia. That didn’t work out too well. They couldn’t do it. They tried the impeachment hoax. That was on a perfect conversation. They tried anything, they tried it over and over, they’ve been doing it since you got in. It’s all turning, they lost, it’s all turning. Think of it. Think of it. And this is their new hoax. But you know, we did something that’s been pretty amazing. We’re 15 people [cases of coronavirus infection] in this massive country. And because of the fact that we went early, we went early, we could have had a lot more than that.

Democrats and the left-wing media absolutely are politicizing this and in fact are a primary reason for the absolute FREAK OUT that is going on right now. Take note at his comment at the end...he was on top of this from the beginning while your dumb candidate was calling Trump xenophobic for taking action and corrupt organizations like the WHO saying the virus was not transmitted from human to human.

Fake news from the left is a primary reason so many are suffering right now. New York is absolutely a wreck because of the lack of planning from a 3 term governor.

Yesterday, COVID-19 took 1328 US lives in that single day.

I no longer care what was said, when. I don't even really care that there are delusions remaining about who said what when, or why it is happening, or even how bad it is going to get. Take that shit and bundle it all up with the other political bullshit and put it in the other thread.

Here, people are seeing others struggle to live. Here, people are seeing others fail in that struggle. Every. Day. No rhetoric, no comparison, just a simple fact.

I pray for each and every person here that you never have to watch from the other side of a plastic isolation curtain as your loved one fails in the struggle. I am sorry for any other attitude presented in this thread to those of you who each hour, minute by minute, set aside the ranting going on around you as you work to help those in the struggle. I've worked from home for a long time so this isn't much different for me. The ones really being hit by this are my parents.

About a year ago, my mom was diagnosed with dementia. Eventually she had to be put in a nursing home. We got to celebrate her birthday last month before they locked down the home but they have been on indefinite lockdown now for several weeks and their 50th wedding anniversary is going to be missed. We're not sure if she will remember it, but of course my dad does. On top of that, he has always been the type who has to be doing something so this whole thing is driving him crazy. I live over 2 hours away and my brother lives about 2.5 so he can't see either of us. He is basically sleeping, watching a little tv and wandering around the senior housing place where he lives. I'm afraid all of this is just going to eventually catch up to him too.

I agree with you, but hopefully we can all also agree that allowing any misinformation to stand in a COVID thread is just a very, *very* bad idea. Full stop. It's killing people. And there's nothing theoretical about that- it's a big part of why I'm working 12 hour days right now.

I've been spending a lot of my time the last few weeks working with companies to help them get accurate info about COVID out to their employees and to combat the rampant misinformation that those employees are (very unintentionally, and often with the very best of intentions) spreading across the organization. These people have never had to deal with something like this before, and it's keeping them up at night because employees are making bad decisions based on bad information that can affect the entire organization.

And some of the stories they're telling me are heartbreaking. One big restaurant company told me that some of their employees bad been intentionally creating social gatherings (with colleagues!) just to "prove" that the whole thing is a hoax because people they trust told them it was. The woman I spoke to was at a total loss as to how to deal with this. Honestly, so was I.

Trying to fix this problem is not about politics. It's about treatment and prevention.

I'll leave it at that.

Best news I’ve heard all month

You are receiving this email because you have indicated interest in a possible charter flight back to the United States.

The Department of State has arranged special chartered flights for U.S. citizens and U.S. Lawful Permanent Residents departing Sheremetyevo Airport on Thursday, April 9, 2020, beginning at 5:45 am. These flights will include a Moscow to London Heathrow leg and an onward connecting flight to one of 6 cities in the USA served by British Airways: Chicago, New York City (JFK), Dulles, Boston, Los Angeles, and Seattle.

All passengers will need to reimburse the U.S. Government for the flight, and a promissory note must be signed before boarding. More information about U.S. Government-sponsored evacuations can be found here; you will be billed for the cost of your transportation no greater than the amount of a full-fare economy flight, or comparable alternate transportation, to the designated destination(s) that would have been charged immediately prior to the events giving rise to the evacuation. No cash or credit card payments will be accepted. You will be responsible for any arrangements or costs (lodging, onward destination or local transportation, etc.) beyond your initial destination in the USA. Exact departure time and routing are subject to change.

Please come to the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy (Bolshoy Deviatinsky, Pereulok No. 8, Moscow 121099) Monday, April 6 from 1 pm until 6 pm, or Tuesday April 7 through Wednesday April 8 from 10 am until 6 pm, for eligibility certification and to sign the promissory note. Please bring proof of each traveler’s eligibility to the enter the U.S., whether this is a U.S. passport, a greencard, an immigrant visa, or non-immigrant visa, as well as a copy of each traveler’s document, and in order to save time please fill out this form by 12 pm on Monday if you plan to come on Monday, or by 8 am if you plan to come Tuesday or Wednesday. Minor children should not come; please bring proof of parentage of any minor children (e.g. a birth certificate). Social distancing will be enforced to the extent possible in the Consular Section. Cellular phones are not permitted inside the Embassy and we do not have space to store cellular phones. Please do not bring your cell phone.

If you are not in Moscow, or for some other reason cannot come to the Embassy during these times, you will need to perform the above steps at the airport prior to the flight.

A future email will be sent out with further instructions and logistics of the flight. Please note that per the State Department guidance, we must prioritize eligibility for participation in this flight. There is no guarantee that every person who would like to be included in the flight will be able to do so.

Here's a 2006 article posted on the National Institute of Health (NIH) website regarding the usage of homemade cloth masks written during the avian flu outbreak. This is in line with the CDCs unfortunately belated guidance regarding cloth masks during the COVID-19 outbreak.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3373043/

The World Health Organization recommends protective equipment including masks (if they not available, a cloth to cover the mouth is recommended) for persons who must handle dead or ill chickens in regions affected by H5N1 (5 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3373043/#R5)). Quality commercial masks are not always accessible, but anecdotal evidence has showed that handmade masks of cotton gauze were protective in military barracks and in healthcare workers during the Manchurian epidemic (6 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3373043/#R6),7 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3373043/#R7)). A simple, locally made, washable mask may be a solution if commercial masks are not available. We describe the test results of 1 handmade, reusable, cotton mask.
For material, we choose heavyweight T-shirts similar to the 2-ply battle dress uniform T-shirts used for protective masks against ricin and saxitoxin in mouse experiments (8 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3373043/#R8)). Designs and T-shirts were initially screened with a short version of a qualitative Bitrex fit test (9 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3373043/#R9)) (Allegro Industries, Garden Grove, CA, USA). The best were tested by using a standard quantitative fit test, the Portacount Plus Respirator Fit Tester with N95-Companion (TSI, Shoreview, MN, USA) (10 (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3373043/#R10)). Poor results from the initial quantitative fit testing on early prototypes resulted in the addition of 4 layers of material to the simplest mask design. This mask is referred to as the prototype mask (Figure (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3373043/figure/F1/)).

Yeah even pieces of paper towel can help. The idea is to make the mask as reusable as possible (the mask can be washed in the washing machine and the filter can be easily disposed of and replaced) while keeping most of your germs to yourself when you speak, cough, or sneeze.

The third and potentially bigger problem is if people have outdoor/indoor cats and they can be affected by humans and can also pass the virus onto other cats and humans then this can be a huge cluster fuck as outdoor/indoor cats can be another source of infection for people who are self isolating but still letting their cat come and go in their house. Especially with some people out there who like to let their cat lick them all over their face.

Hopefully cross animal/human transmission is really low and this is just a mostly isolated case.

Activated charcoal does very little for a virus. Better than nothing, but not much. The best feature of a face mask is it helps stop you from touching your face.

In an attempt to get it back together, if you're stuck at home and your budget is shot for a million different reasons, send me a PM and I'd love to help out with GoA's (no premium requests por favor). I can't do everyone but I'll do what I can.

Hah, with the possible exception of threads in the merchant section or game-related mechanics threads, every single thread in the last two decades that exceed three pages (default setting page lengths) has gotten derailed. Nobody is surprised when it happens. It's an expected result of posting on the Player's Corner and most regulars either join in or leapfrog past the derailment to post on topic.

Anyway, nice offer you made.

WAIT! Are you saying Keller did both... creep on your daughter.. AND creep on Meth and try to get him fired from his gym teacher job?

No, just showing the various stages of creepy.

MacGuyver is on the scale, but low.

Androidpk was taken in by someone on this forum, he lived in his room all the time and complained about her loud masturbating, fucked a married woman on this forum, cried when she broke it off, got super upset that Methais was mean to him and doxxed him in an effort to get him fired from his job. This is pretty high on the creepy scale.

Keller got mad at me... I guess for making fun of TheE for not having a job? (his excuse, not mine.. it was really because of not letting him back into a World of Warcraft guild... because that's super important)... so over the past 15 years he decided to creep on my daughter's social media pages. This is currently the top of the creepy fucking scale.

There is a preliminary study (with many of the same caveats/shortcomings as the hydroxychloroquine study done in France) that shows convalescent plasma may be useful as a clinical treatment until we have a vaccine. I'm actually starting to get a little more optimistic that we can basically return to semi-normal life if we have effective clinical treatments for severe patients. It'll suck that a lot of us would have to endure a nasty illness, but it's something I'd be willing to deal with if I knew there were effective treatments if I did get a bad case. First time I've actually had a "we'll be out of this before 2021" outlook in a while.

My father is 67, has a number of chronic illnesses, and has an opioid prescription (depresses immune system). If he got it and a doctor had to decide whether to put him or someone else on a ventilator, they were going to choose someone else.

So I was afraid and angry every day from early March to early April. The most afraid I was was March 11th. My grandfather (his father) died on that day 17 years ago, and on that day one year later he had a heart attack and waking up in the cath lab was told he had to sign a paper to get quadruple bypass surgery or die, and after he signed it and got it he lived, so every year since we've gone out to a restaurant to remember and celebrate. This year I walked into his office, shut the door, and asked him if he had a minute to talk (recognizing in the moment that this order was backwards), and asked him politely if I could do all the shopping and errands for him and my mother. I was afraid not of him saying no, but of him getting mad, because if he got mad it would mean a barrier we'd have to climb over even after it became obvious he should give up that independence, and that would be too late.

But he didn't get mad. He said it was fine by him.

So I did, and I watched the shelves dwindle and the masks multiply, and learned how to buy cold cuts and produce.

In early April I could start to see the curve bending:

https://i.imgur.com/vnoGlSF.png

Adam Silver saved my father's life.

Every single person who joined in social distancing saved my father's life.

We've continued bending the curve, but he's still going to catch it, and he's going to catch it from me, but since he hasn't yet, and since so many haven't yet, a doctor won't have to make that decision, and he'll have a chance.

(Because this is Tisket's thread I chose to use proper capitalization and punctuation.)

.

Now, here are some things that brought me to a better place...

Tess Lynch's newsletter, specifically the March 12th (https://tinyletter.com/LAWeather/letters/march-12) edition, specifically this paragraph:
"My son suggested that he could teach his sister how to read. He volunteered to make a chart for jobs, like he had at school -- line leader, caboose, table leader. He said that he could make educational toys out of his old castoffs for his sister. I asked if he knew what an optimist was, and showed him our soap dispenser. "Half empty, or half full?" "I'd say neither. I'd say it depends on why you're asking. We still have soap. Don't be sad, mom.""

there are like 100 different kinds of sliced meats in multiple distinct locations at their local supermarket, and when there are empty spots on shelves i've never in my life looked at before it's really hard to tell what would have been there vs. what is merely a second location for what's right next to it (or, of course, left next to it)

this is exacerbated by having never once in my life consumed such products, and so having no earthly idea how well roasted substitutes for smoked, or what "applewood" has to do with anything, etc. and so on

We hired a company to install a new patio in the backyard. They came out and dug down, laying gravel and lumber forms (or whatever they are called) and rebar spikes in preparation of pouring and stamping the concrete. Then they shut down the next fucking day before pouring. So that's been fun to look at for over a month.

On a positive note, we had a new cedar fence installed and they completed the work the week before the shutdown.

It varies a lot. We have a state-by-state map on our work website to keep track. We have 16 offices and build in most states, so we kind of have to keep track. In most states, construction is considered essential, but Washington State is not one of those. All told I think we have about a half dozen projects shut down.

Coronavirus survivors banned from joining the military

If an applicant fails screening, according to the memo, they won’t be tested, but they can return in 14 days if they’re symptom-free. Anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 will have to wait until 28 days after diagnosis to report to MEPS.

Upon return, a diagnosis will be marked as “permanently disqualifying” for accession. Recruits can apply for waivers for all permanently disqualifying conditions, including surviving COVID-19. However, without any further guidance for exceptions dealing with COVID-19, a review authority would have no justification to grant a waiver.

A rather surprising decision by our military leaders to disqualify due to a past covid-19 diagnosis. Given it's virulence, this will potentially disqualify a huge portion of our young people from military service.

There are reports that it causes permanent damage to lungs, and I imagine until this is proven false they are erring on the side of caution. Anyone that has ever taken Ritalin is also banned, as it potentially causes damage to the brain and other organs.

This mostly effects people in their teens and 20s though, people most likely to not show symptoms and not be tested... So even if they had it, they probably wouldn't know.

And then there is this most unfortunate news. I would bet the pentagon is considering this factoid in its erring on the side of caution.

Possibly due to "Heart specialists are worried about the long-term effects of the syndrome, especially if heart arteries become weakened." Permanent damage to the entire cardiopulmonary system is definitely something they'd deny entry for.

Permanent damage to the heart and lungs, blood clots forming that can work loose and cause strokes or emboli months after infection. Sounds like the death count isn't the only thing we should be worried about.

And we are still learning more about it. Supposedly it causes rashes now too. Perhaps it is mutating. I'm going to let all the pawns go out and have fun for the first few weeks to see how it goes.

Plus I expect it to be stupid crowded anyways.

I got my hair cut yesterday.

I dyed my own hair for the first time ever. It's a lot darker than I thought it would be but I kinda like it.

It's not like I can't afford to pay the $125 plus tip for a professional to do the work but the box of dye cost me 7 bucks. Why does anyone pay for a professional colorist?!

Then I spent $200 on unnecessary crap from Amazon.

A number of years ago it became apparent that I was somewhat allergic to the hair dyes my wife was buying at the store. She has been going to a professional ever since. I think she pays around $165 per visit (which includes the tip), but my lungs are much happier.

I have so much shit I don't need from Amazon. I bought some Turkish delights because... I'd never had one before. Same order, I bought a red dot scope for a 22 I have, some drill attachments that scrub things (think car tires, grout, etc), some bucatini pasta, canned dog food, beef jerky and fish sauce.

My wife thinks I'm crazy.

Just my last few purchases: I bought mothballs, even though we've never had a problem with moths eating our clothes. I bought spray bottles because I realized that I don't have any and there might come a time that I want to spray random liquids. I bought an egg slicer because really, doesn't every kitchen need one? I bought fireproof document bags to keep important documents from burning up in our fireproof safe because you can never be too safe.

My husband doesn't think I'm crazy but then again if he said I was then he'd open himself up for an examination of his own recent Amazon purchasing history.

Just saw the news about SR and thought about this thread.

How is everyone holding up?

We're struggling with the decision on whether to send our 10 year old to sleep away camp. As a parent I'm used to making risk/reward decisions - this is just so much harder because the risk is unknown at this point. Like if I knew the worst that could happen is she gets a 2-week flu and we have to quarantine as a family, I'm OK with that risk. But the long-term health effects are unknown (and some of the reports are pretty harrowing). I'm leaning toward no based on all the uncertainty around long-term health effects - but we need something different from our normal daily routine. Adulting through a pandemic is no fun.

Oh, I should probably update.

My sister is ok. She was really bad for a week and missed a few doctor appointments (I think phone/Zoom stuff) because she couldn't bring herself to get out of bed. She recovered but says she only started feeling close to 100% a couple days ago. She isn't cleared to go back to work yet, and says it is "not just a flu".

My brother and his family managed to not get infected. They had been visiting my sister prior to her getting diagnosed, riding in the same car, hugging, etc. She held their baby for a while, too, and thought the cough she had was just allergies. Kind of a miracle.

Just found out my mom's husband has COVID. They took him into the hospital Thursday with a high fever and really low oxygen levels. He had literally tested negative on the 10th, but the hospital found he had the antibodies already. They diagnosed him with pneumonia, but the COVID test came back positive. He's a double transplant recipient on immunosuppressants who is in and out of the hospital all the time. This has been my biggest COVID nightmare scenario.

They diagnosed my mom with bronchitis, and she's been at home in bed freaking out. She was also negative on the 10th but negative on the antibodies. They did re-test her, but we still don't have results. My family has a couple of immune disorders running around, and some of us have a hard time making antibodies so antibody tests aren't always very accurate for us. We get sick a lot, especially from viral stuff. That makes me really worried for her.

Anyway, freaking out.

Writing this down helps.

Hope everyone's families are doing okay.

And if nothing else- this is just a reminder that a negative test today isn't protection against an infection tomorrow.

They had no symptoms on the 10th. They didn't kick in until like 3 days ago, then suddenly mom has bronchitis and her husband had pneumonia.

The tough part is they told us it wasn't COVID yesterday, and then they got the tests back today and say "ooops".

They're in AZ too. Things are so bad there. I'm just hoping she doesn't end up on the hospital and that he does end up coming home from the hospital.
