Greetings,

I've been away for over a decade at this point, and am trying to re-acclimate to the game. Can anyone tell me if these are reasonable skills for a level 47 ranger to have?

Alornen (at level 47), your current skill bonuses and ranks (including all modifiers) are:
Skill Name | Current Current
| Bonus Ranks
Armor Use..........................| 170 70
Combat Maneuvers...................| 99 23
Ranged Weapons.....................| 198 98
Ambush.............................| 150 50
Physical Fitness...................| 170 70

Harness Power......................| 150 50

Looks like I'm an archer - and I do have a graceful ruic recurve longbow set with ivory nocks - whatever that is. I have a vague recollection that I'm also a fletcher, and that I used to do a lot of bounties.

I woke on Teras.

Anyway, I guess I'm just wondering what I should be doing with my life. What are the best/most fun ranger builds at present? Where should a level 47 ranger live?

Any guidance greatly appreciated <3

You're open archery or just 608? You should be fine with that. Is the CM for wspec or shadow mastery or something?

I did pyrothags at that level, if theirs or their buddies' maneuvers are too much you can try trali/vortaz/faeroths over in EN.

Looks about right. Not too much experience with rangers but the training looks solid. I'd suggest a wiki read though, gswiki.play.net also archery is getting some updates RSN, so keep an eye open for those

@Tearnath hmmm good questions. I honestly don't remember. Do you have a recommendation between open archery and 608? I'm not sure about the CMs either... do you have a recommendation on that?

Open archery is fine, it's mostly personal preference. You can use 608 in conjunction with open archery and get most of the benefits without having to train in hiding, which is kinda the main draw.

As far as CMs they are relatively mediocre imo and not really fire pushing too early. Mfire is trash, surge only if you have strength issues. Wspec and Smaster would be nice but not necessary.

/edit: almost forgot, there are some new CMs that are or will be added to archery. No idea how good or bad they are just yet.

Great. I'll try and remember how to spell/sign up, how to use lich, how to fletch, how to find the hunting area, and how to shoot arrows :)

Ranger CMANs are limited; can't learn WSpec or Surge.

For open archery, I would go CDef/Dirtkick first, then Disarm. Assuming you don't want/need Sweep.

I figured out how to cman info:

Alornen, your Combat Maneuver training is as follows:

Skill name Mnemonic Ranks
Combat Movement cmovement 2
Cunning Defense cdefense 2

Available Combat Maneuver Training Points: 3
Unlearning Combat Maneuver Training Points: 6
Estimated time until next point conversion: 1 hour, 38 minutes
Total Points converted during your current 30-day unlearning cycle: 1
Number of days remaining in your current 30-day unlearning cycle: 28 days

Oh, and it looks like I'm migrating Minor Spiritual down for some reason:

Alornen (at level 47), your base skill bonuses, ranks and goals are:
Skill Name | Actual Actual
| Bonus Ranks Goals In-Game Time to Goal
Armor Use..........................| 170 70 70
Combat Maneuvers...................| 99 23 50 ASAP (will rise when points are available)

Argh, yeah, forgot about dirtkick and disarm. I guess disarm isn't as bad now that we can recover stuff?

I wouldn't make any major changes. There are some pretty significant changes coming to archery in the relatively near future, and I think it'd be wise to wait for those to take shape before making any major decisions (read more here (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Z6rt_HxSgSrmAoOwhVKmlgjG5vvSkHRn8c6CConnS7U/edit#)).

That said, I think your training is solid. I recommend looking into lores (summoning/blessing) and how they might augment your hunting style for future goals.

IMHO, either 2x ambush or don't use it at all, especially since you are an open archer. Since you are not maxed in strength you might want to consider a composite bow for better RT. Combat maneuvers aren't necessary at all (but they are changing a few with the new ranged crap coming out), I hunted all the way up to the bowels without them, then picked up sweep just to knock the pesky critters down. The same with lores, I am way past cap and still don't use them; I just don't cast that much. I would double in dodge, if you can, it is a direct influence on your DS.
