It was actually pretty good. Not many penalty flags, dudes are hitting hard. Projectile vomit on the line of scrimmage too.
The flow of the game goes great, especially with 25 second play clocks and a game clock that only stops for change of possession and in the 2 minute warning periods.
I especially love the fully transparent review process and everyone being mic'd.

Eh, they're not even close to being the same thing. They're just using the same name, likely because Vince already owned it and people are familiar with it.
I like it so far. I didn't think I'd like the kickoff changes, but they seem to be working out alright. I also like the clock changes they've made. The extra point attempts should get better and I think we'll eventually see the results sort of bleed over into the NFL as teams and coaches develop better strategy for success which I assume will lead to more 2 point attempts there.
I'm not sure I like so much of the behind-the-scenes stuff. Do we really need a reporter/camera crew in the lockers at halftime? Some of that stuff I think would be a nightmare for coaching staff with so much of the play calls being broadcast and whatnot. On the other hand, the sideline reporting is interesting as is listening in on the ref conferences we see on-field. Matt McGloin melting down, talking about needing to change the entire game plan at halftime, and possibly causing his own benching was amusing.
I've watched all of the games so far. Comparatively, I watched zero seconds of the failed AAF. There was just nothing enticing about it at all. For whatever reason, I really never picked up much of anything about the league in general. I don't know which rules, if any, they tweaked. To me it felt rushed like they just wanted to do it to get out ahead of Vince and the XFL and they ended up eating shit for doing so. The rule changes in the XFL alone were enough to get me to check out some games and they've not been bad.
I saw somewhere that the ticket revenue for just the first weekend pulled in more money than the entire AAF season. Overall, I think it would be good for the league to succeed and I hope it does continue to do well and grow.

Houston is looking pretty great. I was pulling for Dallas, because they are the closest team to me (and I'm still going to, because I'm not the type to hope teams), but the Houston games are a lot more exciting.
Thing is, nothing can compete with the deep pockets of the NFL. No matter how good the rule set or it is, NFL is just a machine that will roll over anything that gets in it's way.

This is why XFL doesn't start until after the Super Bowl.

It isn't competing with the NFL. It is during the off season. It is basically a D League for the NFL.

He'd probably be pretty good in the XFL, but the best QBs are pulling about 470k a year.

You do see a lot of overthrows, underthrows, dropped passes, etc. It is definitely not up to the standards of the NFL, and honestly, the skill level looks lower to me compared to college, but I'll admit I was watching LSU all year and they are a bit separated from most of the other college teams this last season. But hell, football is football and they'll be improving as the season goes.
The hits are a lot harder than you see in the NFL though. And they let people play, rather than tickertape parades of yellow flags.

Yeah, I was hoping the Vipers would be decent since they're the 'local' team, but they look pretty awful so far. Makes me wonder how they determined game and championship favorites as they were favored in both games so far and for the title. Seems like Trestman might be trying to get too cute with all the QB swapping.
I feel like DC, Houston, and St. Louis are some of the stronger teams at the moment.

I don't think anyone has gone into the thing thinking they will compete with the NFL. I mean, you can't take cast-offs and people that never 'made the cut' and expect to roll over the big dogs. Anyone expecting NFL competition or caliber play is going to be disappointed. Think of it more along the lines of AAA vs the Majors. It's a place where potentially less talented players can play ball, make some money, and maybe work their way into the NFL. It's also a place where they can work with the rules more freely and help evolve the game from certain standpoints of safety and even situational play calling with things like the extra point attempts and kickoffs (no surprise onside kicks, for example).

I don't know if that's true or not, but if it is he's a certified idiot.

It’s because he’s a gigantic piece of shit with a massively inflated sense of self worth despite being a mediocre QB at best.

He'd be a god in the XFL, which would make it unbalancing for every team that plays him. Still, he would get smacked around a lot harder because there are less protections on hitting the QB.

Then he’d say they hit him hard because they’re racist.

It's not about how good he is or thinks he is. The business aspect of it would simply be impossible. It would be like Gordon Ramsey (and he's a lot better in his profession than dingus) walking in to a McDonald's thinking he's going to make 100 bucks an hour to clam-shell some burgers.

He did it to:
1) Keep his name in the news
2) Claim that he really wants to play football again
3) Probably sue the XFL for not hiring him
He's trash.

When his boy, Stephen A Smif, starts telling people Kaep doesn't want to play football based on his actions, you know it's over.

I was saddened when the pandemic hammered in the final nail in the coffin for the XFL. It had such great potential for an NFL alternative or while we are waiting for the NFL to start again. A lot of talent going to the wayside. The only silver lining is that an alternative to the NFL is feasible barring another pandemic. It is such a great and entertaining product. I was on board too with the potential of online gambling (https://mukcheck.com/) for or against those XFL teams. So sad that it's existence was cut short. Here's hoping that someone with deep pockets will try again and for the NFL to give it's full support because it is another talent pool that they can draft or sign from aside from the NCAA.

With this much investment in it, as recent as three days ago I can't see it being twilighted yet
