View Full Version : Official : Mage Armor - Fire (520) Update
Avaia

The Mage Armor - Fire (520) aspect has been replaced with a chance for a standard fire flare against a target when attacking or casting. It has a base 5% chance plus 1% per seed 6 summation of Elemental Lore, Fire. In addition, every 50 ranks of EL:F provides for an additional chance for a follow up flare if the proceeding flare also triggered.

Your hands glow with power as you invoke the phrase for Major Shock...
Your spell is ready.
You gesture at a thin reddish brown rat.
You hurl a powerful lightning bolt at a thin reddish brown rat!
AS: +322 vs DS: +248 with AvD: +33 + d100 roll: +58 = +165
... and hit for 41 points of damage!
Heavy spark to left leg. The reddish brown rat cringes in surprise.
Tiny arcs of lightning briefly dance across a thin reddish brown rat's skin!
The fiery torrent of energy surrounding you flares toward the reddish brown rat!
... 15 points of damage!
Minor burns to chest. That hurts a bit.
The fiery torrent of energy surrounding you flares toward the reddish brown rat!
... 25 points of damage!
Minor burns to left eye. Foe blinks back the tears.
The fiery torrent of energy surrounding you flares toward the reddish brown rat!
... 20 points of damage!
Minor burns to left leg. That hurts a bit.
The fiery torrent of energy surrounding you flares toward the reddish brown rat!
... 15 points of damage!
Minor burns to chest. That hurts a bit.
Cast Roundtime 3 Seconds.
The above log is a perfect storm situation and would require 150 ranks of EL:F and a huge amount of luck. At 150 ranks of EL:F, each flare has a 17% chance to trigger. The chance for all 4 flares to trigger is .08% (.17 x .17 x .17 x .17). You could technically get up to 6 flares if you had 250 ranks of EL:F. Rare, but possible and flashy. Enjoy, fire mages!

150 fire lore
You gesture at a spectral triton defender.
CS: +522 - TD: +400 + CvA: +25 + d100: +47 == +194
Warding failed!
Wisps of black smoke swirl around a spectral triton defender and she bursts into flame causing 25 points of damage!
... 20 points of damage!
Strong hit rips arm from wrist to elbow.
The wound vanishes as the ethereal flesh swirls around in chaotic patterns.
... 30 points of damage!
The triton defender wails eerily as your blow passes through its vocal cords.
... 10 points of damage!
Hard strike connects with the triton defender's back!
A thin arc of mist spews forth, evaporating quickly.
... 5 points of damage!
Weak blow leaves a brief imprint on the triton defender's chest!
The flames around a spectral triton defender continue to burn!
** Burning orbs of pure flame burst from a singed lor runestaff capped with a fiery nebula-filled orb and engulf a spectral triton defender! **
... 10 points of damage!
Weak attack slips silently through the triton defender's fingers, stirring the breeze.
... 10 points of damage!
Light strike to the triton defender's head.
A wisp of vapor trickles earthward.
** The fiery torrent of energy surrounding you flares toward the triton defender! **
... 15 points of damage!
A strong blow bursts the right calf open in a spray of vapor.
New muscle erupts from the middle of the wound, consuming the injured tissue.
** The fiery torrent of energy surrounding you flares toward the triton defender! **
... 20 points of damage!
A fine strike pins the right leg for an instant.
The triton defender looks miffed.
It is knocked to the ground!
** The fiery torrent of energy surrounding you flares toward the triton defender! **
... 25 points of damage!
Good hit!
Left shoulder is ripped from its socket then wriggles back into place.
Fiery elemental energy energizes you.

+1 to Estild for implementing something that isn't a wizard nerf or P2W. Or whoever did it. Would be cooler if the flare matched the element being cast at the time though instead of always being fire.

Nice but I feel this should have been the evoked version of 520 so you can choose between having your flavour of flare or the original 520.

I didn't use the original and I don't have any intentions of using the updated version.
My take on it though, is be happy they didn't shove some shitty summation chart requirement down our throats for getting results from the spell or make it only reactive for when you get hit.

It'd be cooler if they spent dev time on real shit instead of bullshit like this just to pad the "look how much non-P2W dev we did this year!" list, which now includes typo fixes.
Like for real if they'd just fix our trash spells like 514, 914, 525, etc., I'd shut the fuck up about wizards for a long time.

Not even the water or air version?

Not even the water or air version?
Pretty sure he just means 520 fire, not 520 in general.

Not even the water or air version?
Why would anyone want those pitiful versions?
But, as Methais said, never used the fire version.
I've got 1 mage that uses the air version of 520 and 2 that use the earth version.

Earth is the only one I really use. Now and then I'll switch to fire to fuck around with these new flares because it's new, then I realize they don't really make any difference and switch back to earth.
Lightning might be kind of useful if so much shit wasn't immune to stuns, but getting +48327049 crit padding while stunned still > fire/air/lightning.

My freshly capped mage (yeah, only took me like 22 years to cap him) he hits the phenomenally padded range when he gets stunned - that's with the +5 crit padded armor he's wearing. I suppose that's why I like using the earth version of the spell over all the others. The weight reduction is kind of nice from air, but it's never really needed with my wizards.

I'm too lazy to look up the numbers, but with ECP doubles and 60 earth lore ranks, I think I'm at around +38 crit padding using the old system, whatever CER that converts to with WPS.
Throw in super bubble flares from my runestaff which are almost always active, and it's like I'm wearing plate. At least until Estild sees this post and starts nerfing shit that will mysteriously appear as a HESS item a few months later for like 600k BS tier 0 unlock.

I think they're really great, they're a nice little bonus to your bolts when you're leveling. For RP reasons I wish the other elements had a similar option because I really like the diversity I've seen in GS wizard players, everyone has their own take on what elemental magic is to them.

Separate P2W GMs from normal dev GMs too. Having the same crew in charge of both is retarded.

Throw sigil of major protection for extra fun! My sunfist wizard only has HCP armor, but between 520, HCP armor, and major protection he's got 30 points of crit padding. He's got a bubble flare staff too (just regular flares, alas), and it does indeed make him super durable.
My wizard is a burger gnome, though, so I keep 520 air up.
