If you want to open your own boxes plus open boxes for other people effectively, as long as you have the ability to 2x in lockpick/disarm, does it matter if you're not a rogue?

Can a level 30/50/75/capped Ranger at 2x lockpick/disarm open boxes just as effectively as a rogue at the same levels?

Is it the training points that will make it prohibitive for other professions to fit it in at earlier (lvl 20-75) levels?

lacking 403 and 404 (no longer giving exp penalties) will be a BIG downer.

Otherwise, I don't think any profession got inherent bonus on lockpicking (besides some features given by lockmastery)

I think it would suck to be a locksmith without either LM or loresinging to check the size of the lock. That ability helps you choose the right lockpick for good exp.

Without that ability, you will be forced to use your best lockpick for everything, forgoing exp from a good chunk of the boxes.

And then you add the lack of 403/404 on top of that.

Some creatures have a wide range of locks and traps. I don't do much lock picking anymore, but at times I drag out the rogue. He's level 49 and around 2.35x in picking and disarming. He knows 403/404 as well.

He has troubles getting some shan and even some vesperti boxes can be a pain (vesperti boxes seem to top out around -520 on locks and i've seen -210 traps. Shan can flirt with -560 on locks and also up around -240 on traps); some would even be beyond his skill without an open roll if he didn't have access to 403/404 using invar picks (2.25 modifier). I believe with an invar lockpick his max lock is 540 and with vaalin (2.5 modifier) his max lock is 600.

While you will be able to open a good amount of boxes if you're 2x and if you lack access to 403/404, but you won't be anywhere as good at it as a rogue can be.

FYI you can still cast 403/404 from scrolls etc., but the bonus is not as big as if self cast.
